"I enjoy what I have and wear what I have. I just change out the strap" - that's the end goal as far as I'm concerned for watch collecting. This is a spot I've only recently attained.
In microeconomic terms; positional goods. As a perceived asset class and in terms of ‘value retention’ they are particularly vulnerable to sentiment and in the end only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. Sentiment always changes over time. What is in fashion now may not be in 2, 5, 10 years time.
There are studies that show the ultra-weathy only puts a few precentage of their net worth in any luxury items as an asset category. Anybody who puts a sizeable chunk of their net worth into watches, they are throwing the dice with their financial future.
For me, I am building a Tudor collection. I am either going to get the Opaline GMT or the Pro next. What I like about Tudor is the Retro styling, price point and quality. I feel that I can have 3 or 4 watches without breaking the bank and enjoy the different looks. I really like the 42mm Pelagos. I am waiting to see if they update the dial with a pop of color. I am not a big fan of no date watches, otherwise I would have either the Pelagos 39 or the BlackBay 58.
Watches as investments is a stupid concept. With the exception of extremely rare, hand made artisan pieces e.g., Patek minute repeater, etc.... Mass produced items will have high value after the common versions of popular watches have been trashed. People could come to their senses about Rolex at any time. Think of the worst that could happen being you get stuck with a watch you like.
I'm waiting on delivery of a Sea Quartz 30 but other than that, I'm not planning any changes to my collection in the near future. I'm happy where I'm at. I can wait out the market.
They’re okay. Most people that click a video stay watching regardless of brand, but Breitling doesn’t get as much interest to start the video, so then RUclips doesn’t promote it to other viewers because it’s click through wasn’t high enough
It doesn't matter what watch you buy because with all brands you will lose money on the sale. Even at Rolex. Tudor loses the most money because EBay is full of them. I speak from experience.
The greedy sheep went only for the so called investment pieces.. man some of them got really burnt. Seeing the prices fall is great for the true enthusiasts. It won’t be long the exhibition only signs will be removed from the retail window. 2024 will be good for the watch world. You can ask for discount and get one on some of the brands.
Watches are not an asset class. Watches fall into an asset class - Collectibles. This includes coins, stamps, baseball cards. When you understand this, and realize that standard finance models cannot be used to value collectibles, how watches behave as investments makes perfect sense.
Tudor isn’t scarce at all. You can easily get one at local AD’s, and it’s also selling below MSRP in the secondary market.
Depends where you are, at my only countries AD wait time even for less popular models like Royal is 8 months.
No surprise there - it's Tudor
He was clearly talking about when the Tudor chrono first came out. Listen for context maybe 🤷♀️
He was talking about when it released. It was unobtainium for well over a year

It's the goal for us all! Glad to hear it!

Agreed. Plus we're often likely to overvalue things we own because we own it and/or have sentiment towards it.

Agreed!
Extremely well thought out video and perspective 👏
Thank you!
Great honest, level-headed analysis of the market. I like this "breather period"... Will it ever become the normal like it was pre-2019?
I like the PP stainless Nautilus. Heck, I might even go as high as $5,000 for one.
Who knows maybe you can get one for that if there’s ever another Great Depression
@@JackoWillMakeLives-loveu I'm gonna have Time Piece Gentleman check his inventory - maybe he has one on consignment.
Great video!
Thanks!
I'll believe that prices are moderating when I ss a Hulk for around $12k.
Studio Underd0g doing the same scarcity thing too

Why Tudor?

I’m sorry🤷♂️

How are the engagement metrics for Breitling videos?

Thanks for the insights and nuance on click rate vs. play through.

Some Rolex you might lose money on but many you wont... having said that getting your hands on a Rolex sports watch is super difficult.

Not dead. Just on a break 😅

So I’m a hoarder because I own over 50 watches? Thanks a lot, pal! Jk😊
I hope so. Tiffany dials are childish and pathetic imo.
Who has money to splurge on this nonsense?
Maybe people who do have money to splurge on luxury watches, like me?
Me, unfortunately
