    If they try, really really hard, someday Gibson will make a guitar this good. Had three Gibson LP's and this guitar kicks thier butt.

    Have had my Epi 59 Standard for several months now. A great guitar, well made...plays and sounds as you would expect a good Les Paul to play and sound. I like it every bit as much as my American LP's. Truly a great value. Nice video...thanks

  • @Edward1312
    @Edward1312 3 года назад +12

    Its a great guitar and if you compare it up against the Gibson entry level Les Paul's the Tribute and Studio its got better pickups, has better specs. (binding and switchcraft) and a hardshell case and is $400 less, so IMHO it a no brainer when deciding between the 3,so you guest it, I purchased the Epiphone.

  • @biglog6402
    @biglog6402 3 года назад +6

    Yes, a fantastic spec guitar for the money. I’ve got one on order. I chose this over the Gibson Classic, Tribute and Studio because it has better pickups and specs. People complaining about the finish are stupid, it looks identical to the Gibson VOS guitars with worn finish. I think it looks beautiful and will go up in value when the run ends. People complaining about Epiphones losing their value are also a bit dim as Ordinary Gibson models lose around a third their cost as soon as you purchase one, you probably lose £100 on selling an Epiphone Les Paul Standard plus top pro as I did. Some people love to diss Epiphone, elitist crap. I own and have owned a few Gibsons and the QC was tragic.

    Its interesting that Andertons havent filmed a video since the NAMM 2020 one on the 59. I suspect its because of 2 reasons first because they never have a spare one in the shop because they are all on back order and are shipped out as soon as they arrive and secondly and more importantly customers are giving retailers such a hard time about this guitar (demand is massively outstripping supply) that they dont want to create even more demand demoing what a great guitar it is.

    • @alansamsmusic
      @alansamsmusic  3 года назад +2

      They are getting hard to find. I originally wanted the dark burst but settled for the dark cherry because that was all I could find. Still a great guitar no matter what the finish.

    I got the AMS special run heritage burst epi 59 les paul. I have to say I agree on all accounts except exclusivity I think when they ramp production back up they will make as many as they can sell. I'm only saying this not to disagree I just don't think its necessary to pay over retail on reverb to get one it is my understanding they will be back everywhere by the end of the month and guitar center had a few back as of this morning. Enjoy great points great guitar. I hate to say it but it does play as good as my 2017 standard and sounds extremely close. Like they say you spend a lot of money for that extra 5%. Great video. Oh and the case is nice as well I was over all very impressed. For what its worth lol.

    I have one as well. An excellent guitar for the price. Period correct press fit bushings on the tuners. Mine even has the tall bridge pickup ring which is also period correct.
    Only one gripe. The finish. The matte poly just doesn't look right. I would have preferred gloss instead of this half baked attempt at an aged look.

    I'm watching these but I think I'm going to fly with a used Gibson studio or heritage. I know some pretty serious players and some of them own this model but they all say the same thing. When you pick the gibson up after playing this it just feels better.

    What type of veneer is it? Some companies use a very thin piece of real maple and others… it’s not wood at all. But I like this guitar and I’m considering it until I buy the Gibson Les Paul Classic.

    Thanks for the making this review! I'm considering getting one of these as my first electric guitar (coming from a classical) and everything about it is good. The neck profile was comfortable for me when i tried it in store, and it just seems like a good deal. I'm just concerned about how heavy it is - is it comfortable to play standing up for a while? Or does it start to hurt/get uncomfortable? Thank you!

      Hi first off thank you for watching the video. These guitars vary in weight. The cherry one in this video probably weighs 9 lbs but my vintage dark burst weighs about 7.5. I use padded wide straps which cuts down on shoulder and back stress. You can find straps like that on Amazon or where they’re pretty easy to find

      If it's anything like the Lazurus, and I'm pretty sure it is, it is very clean hand-wiring with all USA parts.
      Routing is flawless. I've taken my Lazarus completely apart. Quite amazing. The Lazurus adds a one-piece neck to the recipe, which is what pushed me to that one.
      Absolutely fantastic guitars!

    These would have been amazing if they gave them a gloss finish. The satin poly makes this guitar look like it’s made out of plastic. Not sure why they thought it looks good. Nothing else on the guitar is “aged” and the original 59 LPs were gloss, so I think it’s a terrible design decision.

    • @alansamsmusic

      @Mark Seymour I've never played a bad Epiphone - and I've come across 3 stunning beasts that kicked ass over heaps of Gibsons that I've played, inc a dead sounding custom shop dog that should never have left the shop for over $5k, not so long ago really.
      OK, I accept your point, it's fair, and I'll also concede that the maker of this clip didn't necessarily understand he was masking the quality of the instrument with his tonal choices. BUT, at the end of the day none of us came here for an fx demo, we came here to hear the guitar and we did not get to do that here.
      My first, and much loved, gat was an epi sg with bigsby btw! Lovely guitar - blew my father's hifi up with it trying to get feedback in 1972. 🤣💥 A fond memory! Tho not the repayment program so much!
