      That is true, but I think parenting plays a big part/role in this. She is 12 years old, and it seems like she had a lot of freedom for her age. When you look at the whole picture, any predator could have attacked her. I don't know if she sneaked out the house before, but she didn't seem worried that she would get in trouble when sneaking that night. Also, what is a 12-year-old doing with a boyfriend and the mother did not have the boyfriend's number to call him to try to find her daughter. The world that we live in today, you cannot allow your children to have such freedom, especially at the age of 12. There is too much danger and predators among us.

    • @877swissmiss
      @877swissmiss 27 дней назад +25

      Right! 12 is that age when kids start to think they are more mature than they are, behaving a little careless sometimes, exited from 1st teenie love etc. It‘s part of that age/developmental phase but in this world it sadly is dangerous
      and yes, it is good when parents try to prepare their kids, tell them about the danger but puberty is still puberty and to scare teenies too much doesn‘t help against that really. My parents scared me and it didn‘t help, I sneaked out, got into scary situations etc. While I was lucky back then, I got into possibly life endangering situations when I was quite reasonable and an adult. There is no 100% safety and protection, it‘s just a fact.
      For some kids strict rules might help, for others it won‘t make a difference and it‘s easy to blame victims but that also does NOT help anyone!! Thanks for your comment❤

      At that age I lived a vampire lifestyle meaning I snuck out all the time at the orphanage I was raised at in Houston. Most of us did. Dangerous? At times but nothing compared to the large increases in violent crime. This poor child, ☹️ heartbreaking

      We tell our kids how dangerous it can be but they are kids and don't always make the best decisions because they are still developing their frontal cortex and are young. It's disgusting how grown men will target the most vulnerable. The other day my 16 year old daughter, middle of day, walked in to get a soda with me in car parked right there and a grown man felt perfectly justified saying some gross comment at her. I lost it.

      I agree with you but that’s easier said than done. Especially women have a hard time being rude or being assertive or telling a stranger to leave them alone. I can’t even imagine what a 12-year-old girl would feel telling two grown men to leave her alone or being rude to them. Hell, I’m 47 years old and in a situation like this, I would be petrified. Late at night if was alone and two men approached me it would definitely be intimidating and a scary situation!

    My son is 34 now but I can remember that when he was a teenager he and his girlfriend would sneak out in the middle of the night and meet at the park. This case reminded me of a creek near the girls house. Of course they both made it home safely and I’m sure it probably happened more than once and even though he was a boy I also have daughters that probably did the same thing when they were teenagers. They think they’re invincible. And an innocent walk to the park or store should not end like this ever!! This was something she probably had done before without a thought of the evil around the corner. We should never ever blame a victim! Please try and remember when you were young and you didn’t give it a second thought. It’s safer at home. Please don’t blame the victims ESPECIALLY if they are as young as she was. 😢

      I too snuck out after my parents were sleeping, to hang out with my friends at a nearby gas station next to a popular skating rink in town. Thank you for this perspective. Abuse or not kids are kids. They just dk there’s no types of boundaries out there. It’s like the more time goes on the worse it gets. That’s the difference between us sneaking out back then and kids sneaking out today. The devil is roaming his time is short. So much evil is running rampant. There’s no space to take chances. Being kidnapped as an early teenager, I know the fear. My best friend was with me. He took us to his house in the middle of nowhere. His friend was waiting. Its as though they had planned to have him bring back girls. I won't share too much more. But you really don't think it can possibly happen to you. I'm now a full blown agoraphobic and I feel safest in my own walls. Some people are just so sick in their heads and their hearts are cole black. They have no feelings for a random human being. To them, you are nothing more than an object. To use then dispose. Luckily the guy passed out and my friend hit the other guy over the head with an ashtray because he had me by the throat pinned against the wall. 😢please be careful out there.

Still a CHILD... sees her at a crazy hour of night (Has anyone asked him if she usually or has ever gone to the store that late at night before??) and then after the store closes up he sees her HIDING behind a storage container... why didn't he check if she was ok or needed help? Why not call a squad car out to check on her? I fell these two criminals maybe saw which way she was coming from and went and hid somewhere further down towards her way home, so that when she thought the coast was clear and they were gone, she started her walk home, only to be surprised and ambushed by them on her way, when there was nowhere to run or hide :( And also where were the homeless people at who lived under that bridge??? I feel like if the 711 guy thought she was scared of the 2 guys he would have offered her a ride or something. As a rebellious teenager myself, I’m wondering if he thought she was scared of getting caught by the police in the area. I remember being that age and assuming that if I got caught being truant or smoking pot etc. I would be locked up for way longer than I actually would. I thought getting talked to by police would be one of the most devastating situations I could find myself in. At 14, I had a 23 year year old friend from blockbuster who would share a joint with me on his break. I had been groomed and abused by a 21 year old guy that worked at the barn where I boarded my horse and took lessons. When I was caught with him, I wasn’t in too much trouble but my “bf” was fired. He would sneak to the old barn down the road to see me until he was caught for that too and I never saw him again. My intention for typing all this is to say that I thought everyone wanted to be my friend and that cops were the ones I needed to be more wary of. I am wondering if the 7/11 guy assumed that Jocelyn would have a similar mindset as I had as a young teenager. I am just having a hard time believing he thought she was scared of the guys. I don’t know why someone would think something like that and not ask her if she was okay.

We wanted to go and earn our own money but we forgot to think about our children and who would be raising them. So fast forward to present time…no one is raising our children. Hell most kids are growing up with only 1 parent in the home and if they are lucky they get to see the other parent 7 days a month. Completely unnatural.

    Im wondering if there were police in the area that the worker had seen, maybe Jocelyn saw the police as well and was thinking if the police saw a 12 yr old child out by herself at that time of night that they may have stopped to intercept her. That would be my guess remembering my friends and my kind of thinking around a similar age. Not that i was out at night at that age, but definitely now and then from around 15, and that was definitely a concern for us if we saw police late at night.

    I understand that no one should blame the victim. But at the same time, we have to recognize that people who are committed to acting like animals will always exist. And there is probably no amount of social pressure that will change them. Between the two sides in the equation, the best thing individuals can do is to not make themselves a target or put themselves in vulnerable positions. There was a 12 year old girl that was killed recently in Australia by a crocodile. No one says we need to lecture crocodiles about how to respect life. We all just recognize that the best anyone can do, is to not swim where there are crocodiles. That'what we should be teaching our kids, especially our young girls. It may not seem fair, but that's the reality we live in.

    Of course, she was "naughty" to sneak out. She had no idea of the sort of dangers, that were out there. Im sure thats why her mom would have had the rule, cuz mom would know. She's not to blame, even if she was being sneaky. She was doing a kid thing. It's way too bad a kid can't be a bit naughty and still not encounter such atrocities.
    Poor little girl. 💔
