  • On May 7th, 1989, Michael Jordan delivered a legendary moment in NBA history to fend off elimination and clinch the Chicago Bulls' first-round series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. Down by one with three seconds remaining, MJ buried a foul-line jumper, known as "The Shot," over Craig Ehlo to end the best-of-five series and propel the Bulls into the second round of the 1989 NBA playoffs.

    I remember reading a story about this and before the game, MJ went to see the 3 sportwriters who said they will be eliminated by the Cavs. One said they will be eliminated in 3 games, the other said in 4 games while the other in 5 games. He pointed to the one who said 3 games and said "I already took care of you" then points to the one who said 4 games " Took care of you as well" then to the one that said 5 games " I'm taking care of you tonight". And yup, he backed it up. We will never see another one like him in our lifetime.

My Grandparents came in to visit and were staying at the same hotel. We waited for MJ for hours I remember. It's a lot of fun to watch even now, but it was even sweeter in real time - everyone felt the Bulls were going to be eliminated. I watched this live as a very young man, many moons ago. It was a thousand times better live!!! Still exciting to relive it though. I remember watching Eloh's lay-in thinking, wow. We are in trouble now. Couldn't believe he made that move. Was just incredible. And then, on schedule, Jordan came through!!! I was cheering. Was very exciting.

    I was there. I was a huge Michael Jordan fan, with posters of him on my wall, but as one born and raised in Cleveland, I was there as a CAVS fan. I really believed we were going all the way that year, so this shot crushed me. This was the first time I ever cried over a game - the only other time being when they finally won the championship in 2016. I was quite the fangirl over MJ, but this shot broke my heart and though my admiration and respect has never wavered, "our relationship" (lol) has never been the same.

    • @dentonyoung4314
      @dentonyoung4314 Год назад

      Thank Hera for the 2016 Cavs. Cleveland deserved something good to happen. And this is coming from a Warriors fan who's been there for everything from the '75 title through the miserable Cohan error... er, "era"... and the new highs under Lacob with Steph and Klay. If there was ever a team I could tolerate GS blowing a 3-1 lead in the Finals to, it was Cleveland. Blanton Collier can now rest in peace.

When he hit 'the shot', I jumped for joy, with my arms both in the air, yelling yes, yes, yes...then, I went out to my outdoor basketball court, and tried to recreate the shot, over and over again. I always tried to emulate MJ's moves. He is unquestionably the GOAT, and he has been for a long time.
