- "The Alienist" opens with a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes gripping New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt calls upon criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. They are joined by Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), a headstrong secretary determined to become the city's first female police detective. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders set out to find and apprehend one of New York City's first serial killers.

Daniel Bruhl's a great actor and it's an interesting subject, should be a good show.
I see, why Dakota Fanning is working with them, so young and so smart. Thanks, Hollywood, for not ruining the life of this child actor.

Luke Evans makes EVERYTHING look sooooo good : ) I've seen this show and I love it. I love period pieces and the costumes and sets are really good.
Oh my gosh I’ve been a Daniel Brühl’s fan for so long and after I found out that he’s doing this new show called The Alienist I just jumped🤾♀️and squealed... I was so very excited for the show and not to mention Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans are cast in the show as well so double pleasure. Yes! Um... I really admire Daniel as an actor he’s simply just a great performer and it’s so easy to connect with his characters cause he portrays them so naturally and thoroughly... and just by listening to him answering those questions in the show you can tell that he’s answering in a precise and clear and easy to the ears kind of way that it draws you in.. well at least to me so anyways the way he answers those questions it should give you an idea of what kind of a person he is.. which incredibly wonderful. (Crazy fan alert) I will ship Ms.Howard with Dr.Kreizler 👍🏻

I agree. His performance as Niki will remain legendary. The film itself is pretty much perfect. Ron Howard direction and vision was amazing, as was Hans Zimmer's score!
The whole movie got shafted; shame on the Academy.
The show takes place in 1896, and a VERY famous newspaper strike happened in 1899 in New York City. I really wish there were some newsies walking around. I would die if I heard the name Warhorse Brennan, Spot Conlon, or Racetrack Higgins mentioned in passing in the show.
And Daniel at 28:40...I can never stop loving this handsome, talented man.

I've read the book and the book was a page-turner so I'm looking at the series to see how this is going to turn out but so far what I've seen it's okay but the book is better go out and buy it the alienist is one of the best books you will ever buy the mystery in that book is tremendously good.

Right? It's insane she's never even got a big nomination at this point. She could be as celebrated by those guilds as Saoirse Ronan is, but the projects she chooses are so difficult to sit through. And I say that as someone who's always been a fan of hers and enjoys independent movies. I thought "American Pastoral" would grant her, Ewan McGregor and Jennifer Connelly with nominations... to me, it's one of the best films she's done recently. Tough luck.
She really should have won several by now.

Gabby ২ it’s funny because I think of saoirse Ronan as well. She should TOTALLY have saoirse’s career. And weirdly enough, saoirse seems like a lovely person but I’ve never really liked her characters. I wonder if I would like them better if Dakota played them.
There used to be a television host in the U.K. called Michael Parkinson. He was a genius at interviews. I see a lot of Parkinson in Ricky. He deserves his own TV show.
