“Joint preparation is 90% of it” Hazah, a man of culture. All jokes aside it’s good to hear other welders saying things like this, you and I both know very well that you can’t make chicken soup out of chicken shit. So far you make me really wanna grab one of these Hobart champions
If it runs 5/32, it's powerful enough for any job. 1/8 7018 is enough for 95% of jobs. Edit: lol I wrote this exactly as you said this in the video hahaha.
I had a miller trailblazer 301g, loved it, now i was going to by a smaller welder, U sold me on the Hobart 145. GREAT VIDEO Thanks William Orange county, ca.
Finally, someone who speaks the truth. And its true about how people favor the bobcats and rangers, probably because of the AC power to run chop saws, radios and lights while welding. The lincoln outback 185 has idle speed to conserve gas, but its basically priced the same as a hobart 225, which puts out more amps and has 100% duty cycle at max amps.
This is a great review! I’ve been thinking of getting one since I have a small Forney 100ST arc welder and I want to do side jobs and I wanted something like this. From your review I am convinced, with that’s how I should start :)) thank you!
LOL yeah I only ever used 5/32 if I had to do a big fill pass on something. Usually we would just use FLUX CORE instead. Every test I have ever done was 1/8.
I've been very interested in purchasing this generator/ welder from this review. Thanks in helping me decide for next big purchase. Enjoy your informative videos.👍👍
Thank you for what you do, I'm wanting to start a mobile welding service here in Oklahoma and the information that you are giving us is true all you need for 7018 1/8 is about 95 to 120, joint preparation is very important as well, so anyway I think I might buy a Lincoln Electric outback 180 or Miller Precision 145 it uses gasoline or eletricty and that's even better, thanks again and God bless you
I'm picking a 145 along with a 4x7 trailer in the morning for $1800. Both are very clean and "like new".. Homeboy said he welded with it a few times, but mainly used it a an alternate power source. He has a bunch of 3/32 6013 laying around so I'm pretty sure that's all he ran. Just to verify, you have ran 1/8 7018 around 90 amps continuously with no issues? With a 30% duty cycle at 135 that seems to be pushing that machine.
Night_Ops HVT I run my 1/8 7018 at 120-130. I’ve gone all day running them no problem. It’s a great machine. Even though I’ve upgraded I still use the little 145.
Hey buddy. I have mad respect for you and your hustle. You'll get your sa200 and then you'll have the best welding machine there is! I have a 1956 shorthood that I'm getting pipeline ready right now. Also a shout out from another Carolina boy. I'm from Montgomery County, NC. Keep up the awesome vids!
Hey I appreciate the info I was thinking about picking up one of those at tractor supply I’m not a welder by any means I just need something portable I can bring to the woodlot with me to fix my own crap. My grandfather gave me an old Lincoln weldanpower 225 ac with a Wisconsin engine I’m going to try to get that running cause for what I need ac is fine but if not definitely going to buy one of these hobarts!
Very interested in this myself, and it seems much more portable than a full size machine. Only thing is that I want a full size to power my house--might get both.
Wow you’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. Did you ever use loans or anything to pay for equipment or just make money, save and buy something like the champion elite? Great job man 40 subscribers to over 4K. Keep burning bro.
My runs just fine! I used it last year to run my power insidee the house. No problem at all. Now, I plugged in my vaccum wet druy no power. Is there a button some place to turn it on.
i experimented using innershield 211 wire on straight polarity, all i did was beak off a foot of 211 and stuck it into the stinger and it ran pretty darn good and with its low penetration , it fills gaps and runs on very thin hard to weld sheetmetal without using a wire feeder!
You are completely correct about the people on Craigslist wanting top dollar for old machines, however it never hurts to keep your eyes open. I got a 2005 Ranger 250 with 28hrs for 2k.
John Smith Exactly. I just bought a 1979 Miller bluestar 2e on FB market place for $300. It definitely does not hurt to keep an eye out but don't over pay for someone's POS welder. It's much safer to buy new if you can.
Great hustle, I just subscribed. I have been looking at a champion 145 at tractor supply but didn't know much about it, your video is great! Have you tried using the Lincoln 210mp off the champion 145 generator?
Well, you aren't going to use your fence as tractor support are you? You're just putting pipe together. I built the roof to my horse stalls with a Chicago electric welder and its held up many. Storms. Im sure it'll be perfect for any of your home project. Plus it'll save you the cost of hiring a welder to do you project.
We are getting this to power our appliances during power outage. My husband was a welder and was dead set on getting a welder generator combo machine. I found this. I know most folk use this as a welder. Im just trying to get some feedback on the generator. Will this power a refrigerator and deep freezer?
Great Video! Just bought the same machine and I’m a 1st time stick welder. I was able to keep the arc lit and burned through a few rods before dinner time. Any advice on what type of rods to use and rod to metal thickness. Thanks Again and you should get comped by Hobart somehow cause you made a believer out of me.
Ruben Molina 3/32 7018 can be used for 1/8 to almost unlimited thickness. I would keep some 1/8 6011 and some 3/32 7018. With those two rods you can weld almost anything steel.
Hey brother love your videos. i have this same welder i have a question on it have you changed the spark plug on it? If you have how do you get to it? Im haveing trouble trying to get to the spark plug. Thanks bro
Hi im starting a mobile welding service small little trailer 5x8 i been welding for about 10 years on mig and tig my question is can u connect a miller 215 tig for aluminum with that machine dont have enough room for a big welding
your so right about people thinking there used welder is worth big money most the time they maid there money and try ti sale the old one to pay them self for a new welder..lmao
I mean most of the time I don't go past 125 amps on my Lincoln ranger 8 but I have gone 175amps a few times for thick stuff but one thing you didn't say is the duty cycle mine is 100% even at 225 amps what's yours?
Also one neat thing I once saw on a welding page on Facebook was a guy took one of those welder like yours but the Lincoln equivalent(outback 185) and mounted on the underside of his flat bed on one side and had a air compressor also mounted on the underside so most of his bed space was open except for his job box at the front. He could put full 8 foot sheets of steel flat on the bed. Might want to think about looking into something similar
Hey not to try and correct you but you can run some wire feeders off of that welder it won’t run as good a a machine like my Lincoln ranger 225 or a miller bobcat with CV current on tap but it will run on CC on certain wire feeder as long as they have a CC setting on them, Miller 12vs I know will run on CC not sure about a Lincoln LN25 though never used one of those
It all depends on what you’re going to be doing. For starting out doing lighter work the 145 will be perfect. If you’re planning on doing a lot of heavy work and need generator power the elite will do better. The lack of generator power is what kills the 145.
Derbador the weldor thanks bud I think I’ll be safe than sorry. I saw that you can’t run welder and grinder...I hate to be throwing wrenches lol thanks for the tips bud
Not that Ruben is wrong, but more specifically you need an air cooled torch with a manual air valve on the torch so you can initiate your shielding gas prior to scratching. You connect that to a “gas through” type cable lug to the negative terminal on the machine. Then you begin trying to start your arc without destroying your tungsten which is always a joyous occasion...but that’s for tomorrow’s lesson
Just get you a bottle of argon, swap the leads, get an air cooled torch, tungsten, Tig rod, and boom. Ready for welding. As for starting the arc without destroying your tungsten, keep the tungsten close to the work piece, and use your rod to quickly strike the workpiece and tungsten at the same time. When you pull off, keep your argon on for just a little while to keep your tungsten from oxidizing. Good luck.
I bought one and I’m curious to whether it will run my small linking wire feeder Welder.I’ve looked through your videos and I’m not sure if you have talked about this?
“Joint preparation is 90% of it”

Thank you for showing us that you don’t need a $5k welder to run a small business. I think im getting a Hobart
I had a miller trailblazer 301g, loved it, now i was going to by a smaller welder, U sold me on the Hobart 145. GREAT VIDEO Thanks William Orange county, ca.

I’ve been a welder for about two years, only ever gone up to 1/8” E7018. That 5/32” looks thicc
Awesome dude. Going to buy this machine to practice up for some welding tests.

You have me confidence that my little Honda ew140 is going to help me out.
Nice video brother I want to start on the field and this welder is perfect,
You got a new subscriber

Bull Hand Thanks buddy. It's always great to meet a fellow Carolina welder. Be sure to hit me up if your ever in Franklin county.

I’ve got one. It works for me. I’m about to change the oil on her for the second time. I was just researching what oil do use?
Wow you’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. Did you ever use loans or anything to pay for equipment or just make money, save and buy something like the champion elite? Great job man 40 subscribers to over 4K. Keep burning bro.
That's what I'm looking for. I'm in the logging business. And you of all people should know, we could break an anvil out here. Thanks for the video.

Thinking about picking one up. So it has no problem running 200amp multi process welder?
What size leads should I get? Going to be buying one of these soon. Also where do I buy them? Thanks , good video!
#1 at a minimum that way when you upgrade your already set
Man I rock a generator and an external stick welder as well as a tig welder
Great hustle, I just subscribed. I have been looking at a champion 145 at tractor supply but didn't know much about it, your video is great! Have you tried using the Lincoln 210mp off the champion 145 generator?
Antonio Castrejon Yes I have but it will only put out about 145amps on stick mode and about 180 and mig before it pops the circuit breaker.
Derbador the weldor thanks for the reply, did the predator generator run the 210mp to its full potential?
Antonio Castrejon Yes it did. That generator with the 210mp was a kick ass combo.
I’m sold. Getting one today :)
You think this welder would work for pipe fencing? Just my own at home, I’d like to build some corrals.

Best warranty on product equipment? Can misuse beyond warranty recommendations be detected?

What size welding cables u use? I got the same one i just buy but i dont know what size use #2 or #4 i only goin put like 7-10 feet cable
Hey brother love your videos. i have this same welder i have a question on it have you changed the spark plug on it? If you have how do you get to it? Im haveing trouble trying to get to the spark plug. Thanks bro
I haven’t gotten to the spark plug yet so I’m not much help
nice welder machine i love good to me i make 1000 ft steel pipe 2''7/8 work like champion
What kind of rods did you use with the 140?
Thanks great video.
Nice 👍🏼 been looking at this unit =]
I use a cordless grinder for a lot of my stuff, but I also work alone so no problems there
Good review!!
Awesome keep it up. Great video
I like him cuz he is real, lol.😉
Heck yeah real ass dude
You said you could run a mig welder from it; using an extension cord. What type of extension cord?
Hi im starting a mobile welding service small little trailer 5x8 i been welding for about 10 years on mig and tig my question is can u connect a miller 215 tig for aluminum with that machine dont have enough room for a big welding
I don’t see any reason why not. You might not be able to get full power out of the 215 tho.
That’s s kool machine.
Good
your so right about people thinking there used welder is worth big money most the time they maid there money and try ti sale the old one to pay them self for a new welder..lmao
I mean most of the time I don't go past 125 amps on my Lincoln ranger 8 but I have gone 175amps a few times for thick stuff but one thing you didn't say is the duty cycle mine is 100% even at 225 amps what's yours?
BRENT3143945 it says 25% but I've gone past that many times and had no problems.
Thanks man

Unfortunately I don't even have this truck set up anymore. It's just a dump truck now.
Hey not to try and correct you but you can run some wire feeders off of that welder it won’t run as good a a machine like my Lincoln ranger 225 or a miller bobcat with CV current on tap but it will run on CC on certain wire feeder as long as they have a CC setting on them, Miller 12vs I know will run on CC not sure about a Lincoln LN25 though never used one of those
Yes you are correct. In one of my newer videos my and my friend Noah did mig weld on CC off of my bluestar 2e. It won't fun but it can be done.
Yes my 12vs extreme runs both
How do you set up the leads?
Have you tried With 5/32 5P+?
Hi there, how long were your leads on this machine? And what size cable where you sing? #2?
#1 and 1/0. But #2 will be more than enough for this machine.
Derbador the weldor I currently have on layaway this machine...should I just spend the money and get the elite?
It all depends on what you’re going to be doing. For starting out doing lighter work the 145 will be perfect. If you’re planning on doing a lot of heavy work and need generator power the elite will do better. The lack of generator power is what kills the 145.
Derbador the weldor thanks bud I think I’ll be safe than sorry. I saw that you can’t run welder and grinder...I hate to be throwing wrenches lol thanks for the tips bud
Good info👍
Is it still up and running?
Good video
What spark plug have this machine?
What's the best way to get a hold of you
i use us forge rods got cheap at amazon in hudge box i like them
US Forge, Made right in Wisconsin :) also make a high end line called Messer. Check those rods out!
I love my 305G and I run around 125 to 300 a lot of the time
What size cable lug is it
What's size cable you use on your hobart #2 or #6
John The Mechanic I'm using 1/0 right now because it's all I have. You should definitely be able to use #2. Just double check before buying.
Would you happen to know how much your machine weighs?
Manuel Rodriguez I think it's 250lb
Derbador the weldor nice thats what i honestly need
get yourself a 3500 watt generator for your helper to grind on
Hello as it is on this generator I can connect ironman 230 mig welder
Jonathan Contreras you can but it won't run it at full power.
sheetz guy here
Luc Aura 10-4 Bud I subscribed to your channel.
And can weld tig with this generator
Jonathan Contreras Yes. I do it all the time.
Have esab 180 it is amazing
I’ve had my eye on one of those I hear even the power on 120 is pretty good
Peepeepoopoo
It will do the job but the longevity wont be there but good job on your hustle
Justin Richie The long term plan is to get a sa200 But this Hobart dose excellent in the meantime.
now 1.94k ......;]
How do you set up this welder for tig welding?
Not that Ruben is wrong, but more specifically you need an air cooled torch with a manual air valve on the torch so you can initiate your shielding gas prior to scratching. You connect that to a “gas through” type cable lug to the negative terminal on the machine.
Then you begin trying to start your arc without destroying your tungsten which is always a joyous occasion...but that’s for tomorrow’s lesson
I said that you weren’t wrong It was the first thing I said
Just get you a bottle of argon, swap the leads, get an air cooled torch, tungsten, Tig rod, and boom. Ready for welding.

Made by miller
Do you know how long your welding leads were on this particular machine?
I think it was 50’
OK, thank you for your fast response also thank you for the videos they are very helpful.
I bought one and I’m curious to whether it will run my small linking wire feeder Welder.I’ve looked through your videos and I’m not sure if you have talked about this?
