    Thank you for the refresher. One of my greatest fears is getting a child code blue.

    If you don’t have the mask he used to give the puff, tilt up the head like he showed and seal your mouth over the baby’s mouth and nose to deliver it.
    Furthermore, you probably know that chest compressions are usually given at 100 bmp, the tempo of Another one Bites the Dust or Stay’n Alive. However, babies have a much faster heart rate than adults, so you’re going to want to go as quickly as you can without sacrificing depth.

    I'm glad I watched this because I would never have thought to do rescue breaths with an unconscious choking infant, I would have thought it would just lodge the object further but I suppose if the back hits didn't dislodge it then it won't matter and it's just more important to push air past the object and do the cpr to keep the blood circulating and oxygenated

    Perhaps better to check for the object in the babies mouth first, before doing the mouth to mouth puff. That way you don't risk pushing it down further.

    After taking out the food and give a breath, do you then check for a pulse? If they have one, do you still do CPR rather than rescue breaths?

    • @JuanMejia-lg8hd
      @JuanMejia-lg8hd 3 года назад +6

      I think if there is a pulse it would be a bad idea to commence cpr, since the heart is shown to be beating. I was taught that if the patient has a pulse but is showing signs of difficulty breathing, respiratory arrest, you should commence rescue breaths.

    • @sitcomchristian6886
      @sitcomchristian6886 Год назад

      I think the key here is the fact that the patient is unconscious. Sometimes it's difficult to find a pulse, and could waste valuable time.

    If you see the obstruction, shouldn't you roll the baby on the side before trying to remove it as to not to risk pushing it back in? 🤔

    What if you don’t have one of those bag masks???

    • @EponaTrekka
      @EponaTrekka 3 года назад +6

      I seen another video talk about covering both mouth and nose with your mouth for the breaths, alternatively you can just cover the nose and hold the lips sealed shut with your other hand. I was annoyed he used that bag, not everyone has one, nor if u did, I doubt u have time to go dig one out.

      Usually, these masks are medic first aid kits for first responders, and people that get one just in case. But it isn't always accessible.
      The masks have several purposes. One, it allows you to seal the respiratory openings to give a correct cpr breath. The other, it is a physical barrier between your germs and theirs, between puke and your mouth, etc.
      You can learn to position your hand during head tilt and pinch the infant's nose, or you can cover both the nose and mouth with your mouth as you give the breath. It is a baby, so the space is relatively small, and your mouth should be able to cover that much.
      The masks are sold in many sites, and are useful to have around. They sell them in little boxes you can keep on your keychain and all that. They do degrade with time (like, the inflatable masks get kinda funky), so you want to make sure you inspect yours every so often for weak spots or tears. You can keep a cpr mask kit at home too, if you really want it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    How come he didn’t sweep it out if it was there initially before giving breaths

    • @sitcomchristian6886
      @sitcomchristian6886 Год назад +1

      Because he couldn't see the object. A blind sweep risks pushing the object farther in.
