    • @DembaiVT
      @DembaiVT 5 лет назад +68

      This is true.
      Tw: abuse mention, narc, religious
      our system was raised to believe that all good things we ever did belonged to somebody else. Generally our mother or God. Because of that, we strongly internalize the concept that all bad things come from us and all good things come from someone else.
      While we have worked through some of that, a good affirmation is to remind ourselves that when we work together we do great things and we can all take credit even if what we're doing is just not getting in each other's way.

    • @hazeld8016
      @hazeld8016 5 лет назад +32

      @@DembaiVT Absolutely. It's one of the problems I have with any belief that puts all of the blame on one person and gives all of the credit to another. Just functioning is an achievement. Be proud of it! You all have to unlearn everything you've learned and relearn it the right way. That's really hard and it takes time. Take pride in the journey. Not everyone can be so brave as to go against everything they've ever known.

    Being in a position of responsibility in a system sounds kind of like being a parent. If your kid is rude to someone or hurts someone and refuses to make amends, it's up to you to make it right, because that person was still hurt and you're responsible for the person who hurt them.

Some of them are not the world's healthiest individuals but that doesn't mean that they don't love and want to protect.

    I love this video, Nin, there is a friend of our system who has seen more alters front than probably anyone else ever and I feel like, because of the fact that I've personally told him that if anyone else who's a part of the system fucks up, I will always go ahead and deal with it as soon as possible to make things right, he has been able to trust the system a lot more in general. He does not have the disorder but is willing to and has learnt quite a lot whilst interacting with us and I think that if you give someone who makes an effort to get to know whoever alter is fronting at the moment and wants to learn about the disorder, respect in form of being responsible for the other alters within your system, often times people like that will give you the same amount of respect back and will be a good friend which is always nice :3

    That part about alcohol and similar makes me think of a question I've had for a while. If the body is drunk, would everyone in the headspace feel it? How far back in the headspace would that affect (like someone who's co-con would be more likely to be affected than someone further back) What about being hurt? Would people in the headspace have a sudden feeling that something is wrong, or even feel discomfort if the body, say, broke their arm?

    • @SashyGryphyth
      @SashyGryphyth 5 лет назад +29

      If conscious they can sense how the body is affected, to some degree, depending how close to the front (how focused in consciousness they are).
      However some alters also experience the same things slightly differently to each other too. Such as things like having a higher or lower pain tolerance, or different energy levels.
      Even amongst each other in the same body alters can have a different idea of what the body needs or how it seems to feel. It has something to do with how different parts of the brain are stimulated with different alters, and how the brain in turn manages the rest of the body, like hormones, and senses, even some reflexes. Not everything will change, but some things can.
      I hope this helps, but please don't take my word for it and look further at other resources too.

    • @SoLongSpaceCat
      @SoLongSpaceCat 4 года назад +27

      @@SashyGryphyth -- Your description is very much my experience with this. Pain tolerance, certain reflexes, vision and other sensory processing stuff, what caffeine does to us, how drunk we get after consuming the same amount of alcohol, etc. varies a lot based on who's out. Even whether or not we'll have a hangover in the morning seems to be dependent on who wakes up first.
      As the person who recently broke our foot, I can confirm that (at least in this case) I noticed it, but also didn't really feel it, so I thought it wasn't a big deal. We only went to urgent care a couple days later after someone else came out and noticed it... :P
      All anecdotal, of course, but I hope it helps with the initial question here, lol

      As someone with DID, anything physical such as being drunk, having a cold, sprained ankle, etc. is only felt by whoever is out front/cofronting. Also being drunk is its own bag of worms with trauma cause memories come up wayy faster (like flashbacks and such) and it makes switching really weird. Only speaking from personal experience though

    Learning about persecutors is one of my favorite aspects of all this. Being a single personality, I can still think of the different parts of my brain as being compartmentalized the same way, even on a metaphorical level. Learning how to reach out to one's persecutors and offer them love and support just makes so much more sense in this context, and reminds me to not bully myself so much for my past suffering.

      Aaron Wilder - I so agree. Not to minimize the incredible situation a system lives with, but even a singlet personality has the challenge of recognizing and owning up to their responsibility for unconscious aspects or unconscious impulses. When all sorts of other people struggle to be self aware it’s because, well you can’t blame your childhood or your parent interjects or the immature side of yourself - its work to accept that responsibility, for everything about ourselves.

    Hi Nin!!! I'm glad you brought this up. I had a friend in the past with DID, back when I wasn't very aware of what it was but believed them. And they broke our friendship, or an alter did, and when another alter apologized they said it wasn't them. It was someone else in their system and I had to just expect that. I don't think they truly understood their condition yet either but an alter said quite horrible things to me and they definitely didn't take responsibility, just apologized it happened. I was also less understanding and unwilling to believe it wouldn't happen again so I blocked them :( anyway, I hope that this helps other systems as much as it helped me understand what my former friend had done. Much love, always 💜

    • @anyasydnee6233
      @anyasydnee6233 5 лет назад

      @Anne-Lou just as Nin said, take responsibility instead of saying there was nothing they could do! Especially since only that alter didn't want to be my friend. There was only apology that it happened, not apology for what was said or how much it had hurt me. I would have been willing to work with the system but nobody wanted to acknowledge that I had been deeply hurt. The communication just wasn't very good in their system yet. I understand that now, but especially back then, it felt like they were just playing with me and pretending it never happened. It was overall an unfair situation for all of us.

      I had a similar situation where someone with DID did something that completely broke me and I was told by everyone that it wasn't her so it wasn't her fault and she took no responsibility and still hasnt. I'm still recovering. I'm so glad that I found this channel before the incident and had an understanding of it. It's nice to have this channel to turn to as it shows not everyone with DID will do that

    Wow this video is rough and much appreciated. My husband was diagnosed 4 months ago and although one part of him is willing to take responsibility for the one part that causes all the issues, the trouble maker will return and contradict everything that the other parts have taken the blame for. The trouble maker is self destructive and horrible to me. From what my husband can tell me is that all his parts, but the one trouble maker, wants to work together. The one part who is so mean destroys any failsafes and work we and/or he has done.
    I do appreciate this video. I will show his host, cause his host agrees with you. I wish I knew what to do about the trouble maker. He’s really damaging my husband’s system and our family. Thank you so much for being here. Your videos are so helpful, important and brave. 💗🌸🦋

    I think one of the most frustrating parts of trying to make amends with people on things other altars have done is when people expect you to know what you’ve done and refuse to tell you when you politely ask. Growing up I’d miss entire days/weeks and think oh i must’ve got the days wrong not realizing DID is a thing and I’d come back to friends being angry at me and I’d try to get the situation sorted out but they were offended I couldn’t remember and be like “you should remember” and i just had no idea what was going on. And apologizing after even *hinting* that you dont know what happened has never gone well cause “its not a real apology if its not important enough for you to remember”. DID is such a hard disorder to live with

    Heya Nin! Can I just say I love your editing style? It's so good and clean! There's so much information here. I'm so happy to be following you all.
    This is... helpful for me. I have a difficult circumstance in that my mental health team don't want to diagnose OSDD or DID in any of their patients. They don't believe they should be in the DSM-5.
    I suspect I'm a multiple. I used to suspect it when I was younger but I didn't have the words... I weighed things back and forth for a long time but since a major surgery, there was some medical trauma there and... well, there's someone new inside. But I have no idea how to deal with it.

    Thank you for talking about this. I had an old friend who sincerely hurt me and she used her DID as an excuse. She was fronting, I'm not sure if she was co-coning or not, but she said that because she has alters, sometimes they will say something and it will blurt out without a filter. Her struggle and disorder is valid but the way she worded it made it sound like an excuse rather than an apology and it really hurt. This video gave me a lot of perspective on what she probably meant to say and helped me understand what it was probably like in her life as someone with the disorder. Thank you. 💜

    Hey Nin. I wanted to say that I love how confident you've become. I want to thank you for being so brave and continuing to spread positivity. I wanted to say that I'm so proud of you. I may not know you or the system in real life, but I already feel like I would be more than happy to be a friend of the system. I wish I could send you all presents, but I'm unable to for the time being. This next bit is for everyone in the system. I want you all to know that even though you went through some terrible things, you are all amazing people who inspire others. I only know a few names so I'm sorry if you feel a little left out in this part. It's not that I don't care for you but because I am yet to come across you or simply can't remember you all at one time.
    Kyle. You are a big help to me on the days I feel masculine. Plus you have great taste in hats.
    Jade. You are an amazing protector. Don't doubt yourself even in the toughest of situations.
    Nin. Though you are new I already feel as though I know you. Yes I miss Chloe and Nina but I also see that you shouldn't be seen as the bad guy for existing as pieces of them while being a whole new person. You are stronger than you think.
    To the littles. I wish I could send you all as many stuffed animals and hugs as I could but unfortunately virtual hugs are all I can offer.
    You are all incredible people and I can't wait to see all the amazing things you'll all do in the future.

    I feel the middle part so much. We were having trouble deciding to stay in a problematic/controlling marriage and my ex accused us of making up the DID to manipulate him. In a later convo when I was encouraging him to get help for his, our son, and his future relationships, he mocked me and said "maybe I have DID and when I get like that, I'm Steve." That was the moment all my alters got on board with running and running fast.
    All this was only a few months ago and since then, I've been struggling in decifering what's mine/ours to take responsibility for and what isn't. Particularly that his anger and inappropriate ways of dealing with it was my fault for being as 'damaged' and 'broken' as I am

  • @jessicaagar124
    @jessicaagar124 5 лет назад +2

    Hi Nin! 💚
    This sounds very tiring, you explain it very effectively and with grace. Referring to the system as a community helped me move past my initial thoughts of 'that sounds so unfair when it wasn't you!' to thinking about it using a community metaphor. In any community, whether a school, or an organisation etc, if someone within that organisation does something unacceptable, the organisation as a whole will accept responsibly and issue a public apology, even if 99% of the people in that organisation weren't involved, and their personal opinions on what happened may vary. Apologising for something that wasn't 'your' fault doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, just that you understand that all communities (and systems) are full of complex relationships and responsibility is shared. And as someone else mentioned, success! Individuals within the system should be proud of their personal achievements, but it's also okay for others who weren't directly responsible to share in the joy 💚

    It breaks my heart to watch my daughter struggle! The guilt is overwhelming sometimes. I left her with someone I truly thought I could trust when I was gone so long having my surgery. In my head I know there is nothing I could do different. I also know that I made a horrible mistake by leaving her where I did, but it was a mistake and I know in my head I need to stop beating myself up over it but that is much easier said then done. I feel responsible even though it was not my fault. I would gove anything to take the pain away.

    I'm not sure if I should say this here but why not. I'm a bit older & I remember being diagnosed with Dissociative Disorder at age 30. I didn't realize what it all meant because I stopped going to that doc & moved out of state. I can't remember if I shared it with other counselors & docs afterwards but I probably did. Thing is, no one explained what it meant & I didn't ask or research. I thought it was just because I could separate from myself. I've been watching your videos for several weeks now & the reality just hit me. It all makes sense. I have much thinking to do now. I suppose I'll tell my new mental health team because I didn't even think to mention it. Thank you for all that you're doing!

    All of this feels so important to me I feel like I need the information you share, to better me and others I may encounter. So much respect for disassociaDID.
    The switches are fascinating, seeing how visible switches can be has confirmed it for me that this disorder is real when I used to be a bit sceptical about it all. I hope any others will react the same way so more people with DID won’t be told they are invalid or treated badly just because of their disorder. It sounds like you’re talking about c-PTSD.... Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Defined by *prolonged, repeated, trauma where you have little or no chance of escape*. In other words, a situation that may have caused DID had you been younger.
      I have both PTSD and c-PTSD diagnosis, so let me explain...
      PTSD is typically from one event OR a period of time involving one event, or at the very least, something that happens to you as a totally formed adult, already emotionally mature (but mainly it’s like... say you were at war, or if you were kidnapped and held for weeks, etc or, as a single event, a single attack or assault, in a car accident where the other person died, or say if you were present at a terror!st attack, etc. those are more extreme examples, but you see my point). The hallmark is the one chaotic event, or series of events around one thing (again, Like someone who was kidnapped and repeatedly assaulted for weeks and set free after would likely suffer from PTSD after thst even though it really wasn’t only one single event, or like I said, being at war is the old classic).
      Then there’s c-PTSD, which is a form of the same illness, the difference is that it’s from repeated trauma past childhood, but before fully formed and secure, if that makes sense, say, if someone was repeatedly assaulting you in some way for years when you were a teenage or young adult (any time past childhood, but before fully formed adulthood- like it has to occur while you’re still developing to my understanding). So, for example, I have PTSD because I was raped one time as my virginity “losing” (stealing) experience. I have trauma related to that specific event. However, my father also became a SEVERE (previously under control that I wasn’t old enough to notice bc he wasn’t very bad yet) alcoholic when I was 12, into my young adulthood (& beyond but by then I was out of his house) and I have c-PTSD because of that because it was a repeated abuse situation that my body interpreted as a risk to my life, but that I had no way to get out of so it went on for years and years.... so the brain forms c-PTSD as a way to cope and, well, survive (I won’t go on cause from there obviously you can google it). Lucky me lol.

    My friend has DID. However she doesn't have any communication with her alters. She doesn't have any names for them at all. She just goes about her day and if she switches then she switches. And when i say she communicates, I literally mean she never once acknowledges her alters as separate personalities. The issue is that its causing problems within our friends circle because one alter (we think its a persecuter) keeps popping up and is just NEGAAAATTTTIVE.
    From what we've answered wrong think its about 3-4 different alters within her system. But this 1 alter is the main problem causer. How can I tell me friend in a polite way to take control of her system. Or at least manage it better?
    I'm not sure if she's receiving any kind if treatment for D.I.D but my sorry is just trying to find a way to tell her without hurting her feelings or without that negative alter jumping in again

    I was wondering if you could do a video about alters wanting to live their own lives. For example one may want to be a doctor, while another wants to be a lawyer, another wants to work with animals. For my system we are trying to add as much of our dreams together. I want to be a doctor but many want to be in law. So I was thinking we could study medicine and law and work as profilers or behavior analysis. While many of us like sports so we do that in our free time, while another wants to work in psychology and working in a BAU would also go with that. So I was wondering if you could make a video on how other people can learn to make "all" the alters dreams come true or how to let your alters work with you if you already have a career. (We are a system of 37 so trying to add things they like into my (the core/host) life is a bit tough.

    Nin, I felt your pain, despair, and frustration with this situation coming through loud and clear. I am beginning to realize that the alters MAY be as much difficult to deal with as the information they are supposed to protect you from. Nin, the newly integrated host, is NOT supposed to suffer this much in my opinion. I am very sorry you have this pain in your life. If the alter KNOWS what happened to little Chloe, I can see why the misbehavior occurs. I wish you much love and triumph as the days go on.
