WOW!! It's hard to believe a group of Caterpillar engineers decide to use a "plastic frisbee" as a coupler between the hydraulic pump and engine. This video truly makes me regret buying my Cat 262D. This coupler seems to be a fatal flaw in this machine and unfortunately not everyone has the mechanical ability to pull the engine and do this work themselves. I am going to re-evaluate if I am even going to keep my 262D, or sell it for a different brand. Thanks for the video 👍

@@tedpappas1559 unfortunately they all have there flaws fortunately I found out what was causing mine to prematurely wear so I shouldn’t have any problems for another 2000 hours 🙏

My 262d wheeled machine just did the same thing after banging around ripping up roots, suddenly stopped. I too thought it was electrical esp cause the cab had flipped open on the way to the job cause I had left the bolts out doing a once over the night before smh… I was totally sure it was electrical till I realized the fan was dead too… I haven’t started working on it yet cause I’m at a loss of how to get it home. Don’t have a dozer but I do have a smaller bobcat skid steer on the same job trying to finish it up. I can yank it a few inches but no way can move it like a dozer… I’ve got a 20k winch somewhat “portable” that’s pulled both machines out of quicksand(literally) but I’m afraid won’t be able to pull it on my trailer with slide out ramps… and even if it could pull it somewhat, I gotta figure out how to unstuck the dam emergency release lever due to bucket being pointed/jammed into down position (was back pulling when it lost hydro). It’s like 20 feet away from homeowners front door… so far he’s in a decent kind of “shit happens” kind of mood but I don’t wanna push it esp before settling the invoice… he might just got himself a big ass yellow lawn ornament hah but yea I’m screwed…

after doing this, do you still think taking the motor out was easier? you have to take out the bell housing bottles, but then you just pull the hydraulic motor exposing that plastic piece you need to replace.

I’m actually in the process of doing this again the next video will be out next week probably! All of those hydraulic lines will be hard to hook back up!! And your crouched over the whole time. On the motor side it’s standing and all simple connections. But if the pump was bad I would leave the motor in it!!

Make no mistake, these 299’s are built to benefit the dealer not you. Cat billed me 5800$ just to misdiagnose an overheating problem. They wanted 16k to do a head gasket but recommended a new engine for 30k! I told them to pound sand loaded it up and took it home. A day and a half later it was fixed. All it need was a new egr cooler. Of course it was only days out of warranty and cat said sorry bout that. Cat designs their shit to fail after warranty expires. It’s pathetic. I want to buy American but I’ll never buy another cat product ever again!

I’m not real happy with the 299d right now either last week the “flex plate” stripped out again. It was showing signs of wear but i think it should be able to go 4000 hours!!! So yesterday I went and looked at a Takeuchi 12 and I think it will be my next victim!!

Btw, I raised Holly hell with them and refused to pay their 5800 extortion fee. It was very tense but they finally gave in and helped me load it. I had to make a huge very ugly scene at the dealer to get fair treatment. Rediculous
