- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a bad movie. It's every bit as bad as you've heard, yet somehow still worse than that. You just can't believe how bad it is. So naturally it has a lot of sins.
Next week: '90s action & a bad superhero movie.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

This movie is like the anti-Avatar. I've always heard that its considered awful yet never met a person who didn't enjoy it.
You need to get out more...
We need to start a petition for the sequel with Zombie Quatermain
well said
@@reuteratwork8983 you need to lighten up a little.
Hi, I didn’t enjoy this movie
This and Van Helsing are a better Dark Universe than the one we actually got.
Add Penny Dreadful and I agree 100%
Hell da’
YEEESSS!!
dude can helsing was really good...don't know why it was never successful.
I also really liked 2007's Sweeney Todd musical, let's put that in too
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweeney_Todd:_The_Demon_Barber_of_Fleet_Street_(2007_film)
One of my favorite things about this is the fight between Mina and Dorian, because of one single effect. During the fight, they both get injured, and when they start healing, it's entirely different from one another - the painting dust crumbles, and the vein-y healing. It's honestly quite nice to see that attention to detail when they could have skimped out on it all and just had both their wounds closing up normally.
Anyways: Like most in the comments, I really liked this movie.
Dorian Gray, I appreciate the creative use of him… but, while I realize the commercial reasons, I feel the source’s “Mina as coach experienced in managing ‘unusual’ types” is more interesting than just “Mina as vampire”.
This movie may be “bad” but I watch it every time it comes on.
I think the complains come when you spend money on a theatre ticket to go watch it. If you catch it on late night tv it won't hurt as much and you can either be entertained or change channels
Me too. it's not really that bad
It falls into the “so bad it’s good” category. I do not abhor the movie and found it very fun to watch. Would I say it deserved an Oscar? No, but most Oscar nominated movies are boring af anyway. If you asked how I could improve it, I would make the team Poe, Lovecraft and HG Wells.
And, hey, enjoying things that aren’t objectively “good” is part of the human experience. Everyone has a song or movie like that. I wish everyone could admit it.
Also... in the beginning, Quartermaine was NOT trying to hit Mr. Hyde, he was just trying to make him change direction. He explained that in the very next line. A big sin for you my friend.
I was searching for this comment!
He didn't try to shoot him
Thank you!
I don't know what you're trying to achieve here, their personal sin counter got stuck on 'Infinity plus one" looong-long time ago.
Very true! There are some others they messed up on as well such as that the submarine can actually go in reverse. I often feel this movie gets a bad wrap. It does not follow the comics mostly because they are too dark for a pg-13 movie but is still a good adventure shoot em' up movie.
Thank you Katie. I was going to say the same thing. Also I don't think the CGI was that terrible for the time this movie was made.
Watched this as a kid with my dad. Gotta admit it’s a guilty pleasure movie
same!!! I love it!
I never thought it was as bad as they made it out to be. I enjoyed it. But I also enjoyed Batman V Superman, so I might be a little retarded.
It's bad. But it's soooooo good. Definitely a guilty pleasure, but probably because I watched this as a kid 😌👌
Same for me dude!
Same bro
And I'm 15
6:22 Quartermain was definitely trying to direct Hyde into a trap, not wound him, so of course he missed 4 times
Yeah it's odd, he didn't realize that lol
@@babytoshiro7014 I mean, like the very next line explains this too
Sawyer: You missed.
Allan: I'm not trying to hit him.
The creator has to make the movie look bad so he can get some sins up in fhe tally.
@@christopherdunn4066 Maybe 1 in 10 is some kind of plot hole or cliche, the rest is padding.
He wasn't missing. It's even said in dialogue that Quarteramain was merely "turning" him with the gunfire.
Yep! Quartermain is like Deadshot in Suicide Squad. They don't miss unless they want to.
After watching this movie I was so surprised to find out most people don't actually seem to like it. I absolutely love this movie, and the DVD had fantastic special features.
I bought the DVD and this is the first time I've seen the Moriaty reveal. Not often I find a film that is so bad I can't finish watching it, other than perhaps some of the straight to Prime or Netflix stuff that never got close to a cinema or DVD release.
I just watched for 10 +s time
I love it too! It brings back so many sweet memories ❤❤❤
totally, I loved movie when i watched it)
Until today I've literally never heard anyone trash talk it at all, it's a modern classic
1. He wasn’t trying to hit Hyde, he was just trying to get him to go in the direction he wants. Tom mentions it and Q tells him during the chase. Also I really like this film, it does have its issues; but overall I liked it.
I scrolled down to see if someone else commented this!
He's gonna have to remove 10 sins for that mistake 😆
Me too man. It's not the best film but it's very enjoyable. I've always loved it.
Cinemasins manipulates the scene or they get the hose again
thank you! I was thinking the same thing when I saw it lol. This would be excusable except you HAVE to watch the movie to do CimemaSins. How the hell did they miss that?
THANK YOU! That bugged the hell out of me. I also really enjoy this film. And Van Hellsing. They aren't cinematic masterpieces but they are very very fun movies.
I remember watching Connery in an interview talking about why he took this role. Basically, he said that he passed on Indiana Jones (main character, not his father) and also on Star Wars because he wasn't interested in the material. So when he was finally offered a role in this film he took it just in case it turned out to be the first in a series of films. Sorry, Sean.
Ah well, the dude is the original bond and it cemented his career, 1 outta 4 ain't bad
@@mitchhodge7868 AND he apparently was not interested in being Gandalf. So 1 outta 5. The man had serious aversion to both sci-fi and fantasy it seems... but a steampunk comic lined with literary puns rocked his boat. Well, Connery by himself provided a reason to watch anything. He had the "licence" to be picky, if not always right. :)
IIRC he said "I turned down "The Matrix " because I didn't understand it. I turned down "Lord of the Rings " because I didn't understand it. I didn't understand this but I would be damned if I'd turn it down!"
@@Chokah that's it...thank you for the correction!
…Can’t really fault him for being interested in the _material,_ which is plenty interesting. It’s the finished _movie_ that stumbled.
This movie is so goddamn fun that the vfx do not matter, we need more movies like this!
I think it’s okay to enjoy a mediocre movie for its stronger parts while still thinking it’s reasonable for moviemakers to do better.
You know he wasn't trying to hit Jekyll, he even said so in that scene when the chimney exploded.
Thank you, I was checking to make sure someone said this. He was sent to CAPTURE, not kill. The shots were just to steer Hyde into the trap. And missing that much while coming close takes as much skill as hitting.
A lot of the sins from this channel is forced. Don't know if he genuinely didn't know or he chose to ignore explanations in movies.
Yes, thank you. I was looking to see if someone else pointed it out. :D
I'm glad someone's hammering that. it's blatantly obvious in the film if you actually watch the damn thing he's not trying to hit him
I don't mind goofy sins, but sins like this just seems like they didn't watch the movie.
“Allan Quatermain: Would you like to learn to count sins?"
"Cinema Sins: I can already."
"Allan Quatermain: I saw. Very American. Fire enough sins and hope to hit the target.”
Target hit. Buy American.
Okay, I would pay to hear that from the late great Sean Connery to the CinemaSins guy
ZING!
As someone who loved this movie as a kid, and recognizes its poor quality but still likes it as a guilty pleasure, I greatly appreciate this sick burn!
Brilliant.
You blew this one, dude!!!… he wasn't trying to hit Hyde… he was guiding him… those were perfectly placed rounds…
"More times than the Weezer song, Africa..." Toto just hit you with 1000 sins.
Yeah seriously wtf
Thank you!
Yeah but Weezer did it better so...
@@etjama9707 It's exactly the same...
@@adampoll4977 Listen again. Weezer has an electric guitar going in the background and a stronger chorus. Makes all the difference.
6:16 Q isn't trying to hit Hyde, he's trying to drive him into a trap.
I sin your sin.😉
Thank you!
Exactly. It's like the context of the scene was ignored just to sin it.
@@AlGoYoSu right? He says it outloud "Make him turn left boy" then shoots several times to spook him so he gets into position then pops the roof supports.

@@AlGoYoSu Yeah, wouldn't be the first time Jeremy was wrong about a sin.
I can't be the only one who loves this movie
I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. I've always been a fan of all those characters. It was a little sad though, that it could've been an actual good movie if they tried a little harder.
Ps: I love Peta wilson so much.
No you weren’t.
@mike cain
I don't understand the hatred this movie gets from americans.
I loved it... Not perfect but it was a very fun watch. Very interesting concept.
I love it. Would actually like a remake.
Nah, this is a pure popcorn flick if there ever was one.
Can we just acknowledge that this is The Avengers 1899 and it is awesome
No it isn't and no it isn't
For a literary team up movie that had never been done before, this movie is fantastic.
I heard someone say it’s the literary version of Avengers and I couldn’t agree more
If I recall correctly it's based off of a graphic novel
Sadly to me, as an adaptation of source material with the exact same premise as the movie, it’s not very good at all.
No. No it isn't.
This movie has so much potential and I wouldn’t mind seeing a rebooted version or a sequel
shame we wouldn't be able to get a Sean Connery cameo
i think a television series, or MCU approach would be awesome
Best to just read the comics it's based on
Maybe they could even do it "properly" because I thought Mina was supposed to be the leader of the league in the source material. (comics)
Careful what you ask for, Think about how bad they could F' this up! Think about how this would work with a Michael Bay treatment!
I actually enjoyed this movie, I don't care how silly it is.
Yep
6:17 Sinning something that the movie literally explains a couple of seconds later is a sin.
This is one of those movies which you enjoy for what it suggests rather than what's actually on the screen.
Great way to put it
After reading the comments a lot of people actually like this film despite how it’s rated and I’m honestly so glad
It's a corny classic and it stars Sean Connery, I'm more surprised it doesn't get more love lol
Right? He seems to be the only one that genuinely dislikes it.
There's nothing wrong with guilty pleasures. I quite enjoyed _Sliding Doors._ an utterly forgettable late-1990s rom-com. I once had an extremely entertaining evening watching _Mom & Dad Save The World_ in the company of seven other people at our campus movie theater. I will always defend _Dude, Where's My Car?_ as the funniest movie I never wanted to see. ...None of these are _good_ movies (with the possible exception, genuinely, of _Dude, Where's My Car?_ ), though. I recognize that, despite the fact that I didn't hate them. (I'm also still, to this day, trying to work out if _The Rock_ is secretly terrible, or if one time in 1996 Michael Bay accidentally made a good movie.)
i would watch this movie any day, i love it, every time i watch it i enjoy myself
@@ferd617 Sure, but why fuck up classic characters for a shit movie? This whole movie was Last Jedi levels of poor characterization.
"He missed 4 times" He wasn't trying to hit him
I legit saw this three times in theaters. No regrets.
I admit this movie had a few plot holes, but I loved it-and still do, as well.
I’m surprised they didn’t notice and sin the fact that Mina has curly hair during the fight with Dorian, and after he “kills” her, she wakes up and comes back with perfectly straight hair for some reason.
Man i waited for just that and they didn’t even mentioned it 🤣 Minas hair changed drastically like how did that make the cut???
@@Fakindafunkpnay I have a funny theory that after she was "killed" by Dorian, she woke up with straight hair because he pissed off the curls right off her head!
She switches between curly and straight when she’s doing her vampire thing
@@MylesKillis that’s what I thought! Interesting! lol
This movie is a forever win in my book. I waited forever for a sequel that never came.
The comics are...strange to say the least, but they have a lot of source material.
I liked this movie too . Sometimes cinemasins gets it wrong

@@BrotherMag The movie definitely deserves a sins video, as entertaining as it is it's still fun to poke at some of the absurdities.
There was a sequel planned involving invaders from Mars, but because it bombed it was shelved
He commented on Quartermain missing Hyde but there was a line of dialogue explaining that he wasn't trying to hit him, he was trying to move him to the area where they eventually captured him.
Dude I love your tardis
That's pretty standard for this channel unfortunately, at some point they decided getting insanely high counters so they could interject more snarky remarks was more important than finding actual sins
@@zachariahkindle8926 remember when these videos used to be 5-6 minutes long? Yeah...

It wasn't what it tried to be, but it _did_ try.
I loved this as a kid but it saddens me that THIS is the movie that made Sean Connery quit acting.
This movie is like if Avengers was just a first draft, and then the director amended it to be less functional.
Why yes they even got the heli-carrier from a group of steampunk enthusiasts, who were disappointed that too many of the gears actually did something.

I've been waiting for this one for YEARS now! I just knew that they wouldn't give Mr. Hydes giant top hat the series of questions/sins it deserved-- As in: Did Mr. Hyde go into a hatters and ask to be sized for a giant top hat? Didn't the hatter run out the door, screaming about the GIANT MONSTER that was in his shop? Was it Doctor Jekyll who went into the hatters? How could he get the right size for Mr. Hyde? Did Dr. Jekyll think that Mr. Hyde would somehow look "Normal" because of the top hat? Did the hatter keep Mr. Hydes size as a reference, for the inevitability of Hyde losing it while running around at night and destroying things?

6:53 "out of your league" doesn't always mean just hot. If it did, she definitely wouldn't be out of Sawyer's league. Case in point, her attractiveness was most certainly _not_ what Quatermain was referring to.
I love the way M says "extraordinary gentlemen". Something about the zest he puts on extraordinary is just mwah
First of all, Africa was a Toto song _long_ before weezer even existed

“BRUCE, Matilda!”
That’s one of my favorite Sean Connery lines of all time
Nice that you threw in some Rush lyrics!
This channel is fooking brilliant 😂😂🙏💜
I loved this film. And every other you've reviewed😂 the point is not that it makes sense. In the late 90s and early 2000s nothing had to make sense it was just for fun. The point was being able to fit in as many random references to the horror/scifi genre as humanly possible to wake up people who had never heard of these books or characters. Because they're good and we loved them for it. Scary Movie anyone? and for the weird factor. nevertheless tho, your reviews are on point and amazing and extremely funny and enjoyable 😂😂😂😭😭😭
