Moving into an apartment after three decades in houses, I'm learning how bad CO2 build-up can be, esp. since it pools from the floor up, and my futon bed is low. A C-R filter works great, but I'm considering a soda lime filter for the CO2. This might be particularly helpful around babies and day care, if there are no side-effects.

If you are interested in CO2 monitoring, we have a new model that is small and compact: ruclips.net/video/z59ve7T407M/видео.html

The Corsi-Rosenthal filter is easy to search on RUclips, or even to imagine taping a 20x20 filter to a simple box fan. I have two and they work fairly well. The Corsi is a step up.

It would be also interesting to understand which role do sensors (CO2, PM2.5 etc..) play in this, especially if energy efficiency of the whole system is also a factor which need to be watched. What do you guys think?

As an ex HVAC tech A simple box fan motor will burn up due to restriction of the said filters. I recommend getting one from a store with a good warranty, because it will get hot and fail. Have you ever seen a box fan sold with a filter? Or seen filters made for box fans?

Hi Miles. I had similar concerns and initially watched my Corsi Rosenthal boxes like a hawk. It turns out that the four (or even five) filter cube design allows so much airflow that there really isn't much resistance on the fan motor at all. I have regularly run them in 8-hour intervals for six months without issue. Common sense stuff like not running them in an unoccupied space is still smart though. 👍
The only box fan/filter model I am aware of is the Lasko FF305 Air Flex 2-in-1. It uses a MERV 10 filter, and I wouldn't feel comfortable upping it to the recommended MERV 13.
