    Good info and video! Defense in Grim Dawn and balancing all the stats and layers are its own beast, and this a good reference for new players. Here are some additional notes:
    - Fumble is the chance for enemies to miss their melee attacks, while Impaired Aim is the same for ranged attacks (see Searing Light on the Demolitionist tree for reference).
    - Healing increase also affects your life steal (Attack Damage converted to Health). The only thing it doesn't affect is health regen.
    - Physical Resistance also covers the non-DoT physical damage, is not only for Internal Trauma. Also it's not capped at 40%, but at 80% like the others (which 99% of the builds won't get anyways tho).
    - Reflect Resist is also important for DoT builds (as each tick can crit and be reflected), although some melee builds would also try to get at least some for big WPS hits like Execution.
    - For reference, every build wants at least 92% armor absorption (easily manageable with components), but most of the time getting 100% is not that hard so might as well just get it.
    EDIT: Typos.

      Not every build uses armor absorb (like low armor caster builds, or builds that go into more phys res), and those builds often focus on flat absorb, like inq seal/blast shield for that defensive layer.
      Reflect resist is great, but not really that big in non-IT builds. IT builds, because of how difficult getting capped phys res is, reflect resist is super important, but for other builds, your resists reduces its damage, so it's not that big of an issue once you're capped.

      @@travissullivan6575 Low armor caster builds will want at least 92% armor absorption regardless, which can be achieved with only 2 components (Scaled Hide on pants + Living Armor/Sacred Plating on shoulder). There's no reason to not get it, as other options for components on those gear slots are... some resistances? You can get that anywhere else.
      As for Reflect Resist, while it's true that non-IT builds won't suffer as much as IT builds, I think the wording is a bit misleading; for non-IT builds you still want some reflect resist, maybe around 30%-40%, while IT builds want at the very least around 60%-70%, with a lot of people even maxing it. The thing with reflect damage is that it scales on your own damage, so a chain of crit ticks on a high damage build can be pretty scary, even on non-IT builds.
      Disclaimer tho, all my input comes from HC experience and talking to other HC players, so if you're playing SC you have a bit more leeway balancing your defense and offense.

    Bravo, very exhaustive overall coverage of defense. I consider bleed damage to be the DOT of pierce damage as internal trauma is the DOT of physical. Speaking of which, one boss that you will run into in Act 2 that does large internal trauma damage is Nicholas in the Staunton Mine, beware on Ultimate.

  • @travissullivan6575

    Impaired aim was left out for some reason on the list, but it's fumble for ranged attacks, while fumble is only for melee, and neither affect spells.

  • @Izaharry
    @Izaharry 5 месяцев назад +1

    How do you figure out that Physical Resistance doesn't work on Physical Damage, but only Internal trauma?
    Pretty sure it covers both, otherwise I'd bet Zentai would've named it 'Internal trauma' resistance.

    Currently i'm still playing the AoM storyline and haven't touch the FG, still on Normal.
    I want to start Elite/Ultimate run, but should i? Am i gonna miss something/make things difficult for myself by not finishing everything on Normal?

      @FarissimoID The nice thing about the difficulties is you can play them all to 100 easily. If you just want to enjoy the story and atmosphere stick with what you're doing. You can always up the difficulty when you're done, and do more. :)

    Soo.. help me out here...
    If an enemy hits you with an attack that deals purely 100 points of fire damage, no other damage type, and your fire retaliation is at 30%, you hit them back with 30 points of fire damage. So far, so good.
    But what if an enemy hits you with an attack that deals 100 points of cold, piercing and acid damage, split equally (so 33% each), but you still only got 30% fire retaliation and no other type of retaliation? Would you be retaliating no damage because the stat you have doesn't match the damage dealt by the enemy? Or would you retaliate the amount of damage (in this example 30%) with a different damage type?
    To make it short: If an enemy hits you with one type of damage do you have to have the same kind of retaliation to hit back or can you hit back with another type of damage as well?

    • @WinbackRpgRad
      @WinbackRpgRad  9 дней назад

      Retaliation damage doesn't care about what type of damage you get hit with, it's just a flat stat you get from gear, abilities, etc. So if you have a hundred fire retaliation and you get hit with anything (I'm pretty sure anything) you're gonna do a hundred fire damage to them, which is modified by any buffs you get to your retaliation damage. So if you've got a buff somewhere that says 100% to all retaliation damage, your fire/cold/acid/etc. is all doubled now. :)

  • @andrewcooks1
    @andrewcooks1 5 месяцев назад +1

    If you use retaliation damage added to attack on a skill can that damage crit?

    • @WinbackRpgRad
      @WinbackRpgRad  5 месяцев назад

      @andrewcooks1 Good question! If the skill that you're using uses weapon damage, then yes, the RDat can crit :)

    • @andrewcooks1
      @andrewcooks1 5 месяцев назад

      I couldn't tell, I'm doing a fire/lightning grenado retaliation build with demo/shaman. Crits are up to 700k. I don't have a second mythical scion of burning vengeance yet but I imagine it's going to get crazy when I add another 18k lightning retaliation.

    • @hi-im-huesitos
      @hi-im-huesitos 5 месяцев назад

      @@WinbackRpgRad The ability to crit is not tied to weapon damage, the only thing that determines if you crit or not is your OA vs enemy DA. So what's said in the video is correct: regular retal damage (the enemy hitting you with a melee attack) can't crit, but a skill with RATA added to it (like Grenado) can crit, regardless if it has % weapon damage.
