  • Just thought I would help sum up what should be connected to a ford dura spark box, and what the colors mean.
I’m not very good with RUclips stuff so if anybody has any questions about anything in this video, feel free to leave a comment. I will try to respond and answer any questions.

Great video !!! Having a No Spark issue on a 1979 Lincoln Mark V. Followed all your steps and verified we have 12 volts going to coil and Duraspark module. Also manually interrupted the negative to the ignition coil and got a spark on my tester. At 2:16 in your video you do a quick discussion about the solenoid on the passenger side fender wall. I'm not getting 12 volts there with the ignition key on but, I also don't see the square box so not sure if we have the same alternator and if this applies to this car.
Unsure that I understood your comment about connecting that directly to the positive terminal on the battery and if this is a valid test and don't want to fry anything.
Judging from the gage of the cables going to this thing it looks like it's a part of the starter system.
Two questions if you don't mind; does your troubleshooting comments apply if it's not the Ford alternator as in your video, and, if it doesn't have 12 volts with the ignition key switch on will it cause a No Spark condition?
    Thanks !
    Jay

This is a link to a general wiring diagram for Ford Dura Spark ignition systems, and the box I showed at 2:16 was the voltage regulator for ford 1G alternators.
Here’s what the small case and large case 1G alternators look like as well as a wiring diagram

The alternator circuit wouldn’t cause your Dura Spark box to not make a spark but as long as the box is hooked up to the distributer, coil, and is getting power from the key in the run position and start position it should work. And if it doesn’t and it’s the original box then I would replace it, I think I paid around 30$ for mine at oreilys. Because when I tried to start my truck it wouldn’t run but as soon as I let off the key it would pop.
I hope all this helps out and you get it running, and if there was anything I missed in your question or any other diagnosis questions just remember the internet is the best tool you can get and there are many forums full of helpful people who know way more than I do.

Damn I hooked that green wire up as a ground. No wonder my alternator isn't charging 🤦
