I was diagnosed with breast cancer just before my 50th birthday. That’s been 7 years now. At the time I asked the doctors for a double mastectomy because my mother had breast cancer & her sister died from breast cancer. They refused. I’ve since found out a cousin who I never knew died in her 40’s. I refused chemo mainly because I live on my own & I didn’t want to be sick on my own. I did have radiation, that was 7yrs ago & I’m still here. I have Lymphedema so I have to have a lymphatic massage every month. Sometimes I feel guilty as loads of women die from it who have families but both my parents are gone years ago & I don’t have any kids. I guess I’m here for a reason.
