Not gonna lie, by process of elimination Yumichika has to be the one who does the paperwork. Kenpachi definitely doesn’t care to do it, Yachiru was 9 times outta 10 either goofing off or just with Kenny as he fights people. Ikkaku emulates his captain in being somebody who doesn’t care about paperwork and only ever wants to fight. Yumichika is the only one I can see being responsible enough to actually do it.
But I'm glad Kubo wrote him as a much smarter soul reaper than before. At least it shows his progress rather than just a comedic fodder in other arcs. It even said that, i don't exactly remember where, Lisa who elected as captain after the war wanted him as her lieutenant but he turned down that offer. So , in a sense, he has the capacity and other gotei captain also acknowledge that.
He's always been at least lieutenant level since Soul Society arc where he actually beat Hisagi off screen while Kenpachi was fighting Tosen and Komamura. He's also responsible and pretty level headed when he's not being petty. Obviously he's probably not gained bankai yet but I'd wager the potential is there for him to be very strong if he was to learn it.

No this is not your head canon. It IS the canon. His zampakto is a kido based zampakto however since when activating his shikai he always calls it the wrong name on purpose which gives us the fan looking sickles. However his true release shoots tendrils that wraps around the enemy and will drain their reiatsu and heal him until the enemies die. He refuses to show his true shikai because he will not fit in with the rest of the squad and he just wants to hang out with his meathead bros above all else.

I wish Ikkaku and Yumichika get their time to shine cuz they've had their moments before plus they have good potentials. However they never use their potentials anymore and are reduced to normal foot soldiers to show off how strong the enemies and captains are compared to average seated officers

They've had some pretty good displays here against enemies even the captain's are struggling with. They, alongside Hisagi, managed to defeat and kill base Mask DeMasquline who was causing trouble for Renji and eventually defeated Kensei and Rose and not only did the two of them manage to do decent damage against zombie Bambietta (Bambi one shot Shinji and originally dominated Komamura) they also managed to fend off zombie Hitsugaya's ambush for a bit and he basically one shot Mayuri 10 times or whatever time travel shenanigans. Bleach feats for Ikkaku and Yumichika put them ahead of a lot of lieutenants and TYBW puts them against enemies that have one shot very powerful captains. They've done well to make it this far.

He’s always been smart but because he’s in squad 11 he wants to use physical power to win. In the TYBW arc he finally allows himself to use his intelligence to win instead of just raw power. He even thinks his banki is disgraceful during the fake Karakura arc because of the squad he’s in.
Yumichika handles admin roles. Hes always been intelligent and having a deep understanding of reiatsu is needed to be proeficient at kido. Its why Shinigamis like Rukia, Momo and Nanao are great at kido and guys like Omaeda are poor at it. Yumichika always hides his cunning self and kido skills out of pride

To be fair he used his zanpakuto like no other character. He is the only one to trick an enemy by calling his zanpakuto by the wrong name only to use his true one as a trump card. Not bad for someone without a Bankai

Kido proficiency can be a sign of intelligence. A kido based zanpakuto or any complex power requires more intelligence to wield than a direct melee type. He was always meant to be a smart character

Yumichika is a simple character. He been super smart but a diva. Soul Society arc he only lost cause he was pissed. He keeps his 11 th squad honor and will only use is real shikai if no one would ever see it. I love his pride to the dead :)

He’s always been smart but because he’s in squad 11 he wants to use physical power to win. In the TYBW arc he finally allows himself to use his intelligence to win instead of just raw power. He even thinks his banki is disgraceful during the fake Karakura arc because of the squad he’s in.

Yumichika handles admin roles. Hes always been intelligent and having a deep understanding of reiatsu is needed to be proeficient at kido. Its why Shinigamis like Rukia, Momo and Nanao are great at kido and guys like Omaeda are poor at it.

you can interpret everything differently. the rescue arc you can also say, team 11 was just fking around and having having fun to the point of treason. beside ikaku, they wanst trying to kill anyone. and also he knew with his bankai is automatic gg. up until this new season. the only person we seen go max effort was ichigo. the man was a slave. during the job of the soul reapers fight the main vallian. so we didn't really see max effort imo. if team 11 didn't mind going bankai, then them early fights would have been easy. they may not be the brightest bunch but they willingly and gleefully follow kenpachi. they all love fight to the point of hating there bankai. so it's stupid to believe there stupid when if come to fight and instincts
Also yumichika holds back almost all the time by doing the same thing ichigo does using a false Bankai and shikai so he is smart just don’t wanna act like it sometimes

He is smart and strong you put both of those together and he upstages his best friend which it's obvious he is avoiding doing on purpose. His shiki it's so powerful it was mistaken for a Bankai so yes he purposely hides his true power and overall knowledge and skills so that he does not upstage his best friend who is obviously inferior to him as a soul reaper.
