Dude you did me solid, I have nearly the exact same boat. I bought the same motor and followed this video exactly. So excited to plug in the console and forget it. Then followed your 24 volt wiring video and boom done. Had it on water first time after install yesterday. Everything worked great. Thank you sir for plain simple no bs approach! 👍👍
Just wanted say thank you for this video, I’ve probably watched it a dozen times and it gave me the confidence to install my Minn Kota. I have the same boat and installed it just like you did with the charger and all.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Thank you so much. I usually dont subscribe, but today i bought me a bass buggy and I’m going to install the trolli motor and you helped out alot. You have a new subscriber here! 👍
Awesome! Thanks and welcome to the channel! Congratulations on the new boat! Thanks for watching and commenting much appreciated! Let me know if you have any questions..
@@ReelLifeFisherman for a bass buggy 16 what size minn kota trolli would you recommend? Its set up for 12v. If i go with a 24v trolli would i need to re-wire it with thicker gauge wire.
I would want a 24v you can run the same wiring .. it’s a tight fit but you can fit 2 batteries under the helm.. you have to cut the inner lip that is rolled up inside the console. You can run a 12v but in wind or current it won’t last very long..
I watched your video many times because I have the same boat. Only problem is all the Terrova's are on back order so I bought a power drive 70. I mounted the same quick connect but the door does not clear it with motor in stored position. I also noticed after seeing you plug the trolling motor in that my plug was installed up side down. Great Video and now I am a fan. I will be watching any more videos you put out in the future. Thank You.
Awesome! Glad you like the video and the channel! So where is it hitting the motor when shutting the door? The shaft or on the steering motor body ? Thanks for watching and commenting..
@@ReelLifeFisherman It hits the deploy lever on top of the motor. Not a big deal since I will have door open when using trolling motor anyway and taking the motor off when I am at the dock. My boat is covered and docked all season in Ohio. The only time I full it out is in the fall for winter storage.
@@timc8913mine hooptied to all hell and it’s super short so it’s just clamped on to the front and I full send around the lake with my 55, trolling motor only lake. Does ok. But I’m here because I want something better. Usually this 55 lives on the back of my flat back canoe and it’s a total speed boat on this lake with that
You used an angled part to go through the deck that holds your male receptacle. What part are you using (12:03)? It’s a clean way to mount the male end.
At 12:01 (and a little before) you show a clear shot at a surface mount electrical receptacle. I have an older Bennington toon and this is exactly what I am looking for. Its hard to even search for because I don't know what it is called. Any ideas of where I could purchase one?
Yeah here you go.. I need to put all the links in this video.. we are slowly getting them. Thanks for watching.. Marinco On-Board Charging Inlets www.amazon.com/dp/B000NI38MG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JGBA4AX6JFKBA61RWYBT
I bought a new pontoon and have nowhere to mount the receptacle. Can you tell me which one that is that's mounted on the floor? Looks like a door wedge at the 12:30 mark. Thanks
Great video - very informative. I have an old pontoon that we are working on and I’m going to add the charger and receptacle like you suggested. Really appreciate the tips from experience!
You really are great at explaining, and make it look easy. I was going to do a trolling motor install myself on a suntracker, I was told it would void my warranty if I did it my self.
Thanks I’m glad it was helpful! I have never heard anything about it voiding any warranty.. if anything at all it would only be if damage occurs from what work you did .. that part of the warranty would be void.. but never heard anything about putting a trolling motor on voiding a warranty.. who told you that? They are sold with fishing packages intended to be mounted.. I would say they are mistaken.. you can always call the factory and get clarification.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
@@ReelLifeFisherman the bass pro sales guy stated it. He said if I do the work my self, drilling the holes it would void the warranty on the floor. But if they do it for me it does not.
Really...? Mind telling me at what store? Because the only difference is if we install it and you have a problem with the install it is on us ..if you do it yourself it would be on you.. like say something doesn’t work.. or it gets fried or something.. but it wouldn’t matter who drills holes in the floor.. I will look for clarification on it .. but I have heard many times if you have work done or did it yourself.. and that work it where the damage is or starts from warranty could possibly not cover it.. and it’s just that part.. not the whole boat warranty or rest of the deck..
@@ReelLifeFisherman Sales people look for ways to get you to spend more money with them. I would get a "second opinion" on a voided warranty on any self install... that's just plain un-American y'all.
@@ReelLifeFisherman one more question, if you wouldnt mind. Would you recommend 112 or 80 thrust for a pontoon(I understand there are variables like weight of motor, size, etc)
Question for you. My 2022 Sun Tracker Fishin Barge only comes with 1 cranking battery. I purchased a Kinn Kota Riptide Terrova 24 volt trolling motor. I have watched several of your videos, would you recommend adding a 4th battery to be the house battery or would the 2 x trolling motor batteries be the house battery? Thanks so much, your videos are a huge help to a new boat owner.
Keep trolling motor batteries separate from your cranking or house batteries.. keep them just for the trolling motor.. now if you need a house battery that depends on how much time you normally plan to sit with the engine off and running electronics.. if you do that a lot I would recommend a 4th battery and a battery switch. Thanks for watching the channel and glad you like the videos!
The door does close with this set up.. sometimes you run into one that won’t .. depending on where they mount the door on the rail. And either you have to remove the trolling motor to close it or move the door up a bit and re-rivot the hinge.. but most 24v will close
Nice install! FYI - best thing to use for stainless on stainless to prevent galling is Milk of Magnesia. No kidding - it is actually used by National Laboratories on vacuum equipment and other SS apps
I want to thank you for such a great video. Great information and step by step instillation. I followed it word for word and it was a success. Fist time boat owner and first time trolling motor instillation. Thanks again.
Your video is going to help me a lot as I install a trolling motorn my pontoon boat! I have one question, where did you get the floor mounted trolling motor receptical? I have been looking for one but not able to find one. Thanks!
Love the channel!..just was wondering your opinion on running a 4 battery system..cranking, house battery and a 24volt trolling motor...1 4bank onboard charger or 2 2 bank onboard chargers...just ordered a 1875 Lund Fisherman..Thanks
Awesome congratulations on the new boat! Glad you like the channel! So to answer your question it depends on a couple things.. one is price of a 4 bank can be up there.. and 2 location of the batteries.. because most likely you will have to run charger leads and extensions to them.. but if you only have a location to mount 1 battery charger then a 4 bank would be your only option. Long answer just to say .. do whatever works best for you and your boat and your budget. Because it would work the same either way.. thanks for watching the channel and if you have any questions please let me know..
Great vid!! I have a 2022 20dlx coming and want to put a 24v Terrova on front. 2 questions if you dont mind? Will a Mega 360 Transducer fit under the door when installed on the trolling motor and will the installed TMotor plug handle the 24 vdc to the batteries under the dash? Thanks!
So yes the factory plug will work no problem for 24v but no I have never seen a 360 transducer on a terrova.. I’ve put them on ultrex’s and fortrex’s and then on their own separate bracket you lower.. thanks for watching and commenting.. let me know if you have any questions. But I wasn’t aware the have a 360 mount for a terrova.
Awesome video. I am installing the same trolling motor on the same boat. My 2020 Fishing barge has a 12v 55lb trolling motor on it that I am replacing with the 24volt 80lb thrust. Do I need to upgrade the wiring to bigger wire or will the existing wire work for my new trolling motor and should I add a circuit breaker?
My 24ft pontoon boat didn’t come prewired for the trolling motor. What gage wire should I use to ensure everything receives the correct amount of power? Thank you and great video.
Thanks For posting very helpful. What size shaft was the trolling motor? I just bought a 20' sun tracker fishin barge and looking to do the same that you just showed.
Cool setup. I've installed this same setup on my 24 XP3 Fishing Barge. All I have left is running the ethernet and mega di back to the console. What's a good way to mount those cables on the compartment near the bow? I can share pics if you have time.
I would run them on top of the starboard log and come up into the console.. make your connection above the deck where you can disconnect at the trolling motor to remove it.. and the others at the helm.. let me know if you have any questions.. or if I didn’t understand what you meant.. glad to help out anyway I can.. thanks for watching
Thanks man. I pulled them straight up through the console as you suggested and will bring them through a clam shell near the door next to the receptacle. I appreciate the advice.
Sorry for all the questions. Your videos are amazing and have saved me a ton of money. Question is, I have a 22' party barge. There is not bow plug for the trolling motor. I am going to need to run wire from the bow to the helm. If I run it along the top of the pontoons, what would be the best way to run the wire? Is there a way to take off the rails or the seats in order for me to run the wires through the deck. Thank you again.
I love your videos. You've saved me a ton of money. As stated before, I have a sun tracker DLX22. I don't have a plug at the bow for the trolling motor. What kind of plug do you recommend? I think I saw that there are different ratings of plug. I am going to run a 24V trolling motor. I also need to install a circuit breaker. Do I install the circuit breaker closer to the batteries?
Thanks for watching the channel! Yes you would install the circuit breaker close to the battery. I prefer the 2 prong v groove plugs . Yes most will be rated for 24v but you do want to check that. Again thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.
aaron becerra I like the minn kota better personally.. but the XPS is made by pro mariner and we don’t have hardly any issues with them.. and I’m a marine tech at bass pro so we install a lot of both of them.. thanks for watching!
@@ReelLifeFisherman well I ran into a slight problem during mock up notice the center pole is higher than the deck l have pics if I could send them to you for your suggestions by text or email
I know exactly what you’re talking about.. sometimes you can cut the top off of it right at the bow stop.. but your other options are .. take the stand off and install it as normal.. then you will have to take the motor off and on when you launch.. you can buy a new style bow stand.. or move it to one side if it will fit..
We typically run a 60” but 54” will work.. just most of the 24v and up only come in 45” or 60”or 72” .. thanks for watching let me know if you have any questions
I ran it along the top of the pontoon log and then up into the battery compartment.. I just extended the charger lead wires with marine grade duplex wire.. just make sure you cut and put the in line fuses at the battery..
Mark Painter it can be either way .. it will be drawing a very small voltage if wired constant hot.. be cause it’s always looking for the trolling motor.. but it won’t hurt it.. best to have a main battery selector or shut off switch.. hope that helps.. let me know if you have any questions.. and thanks for watching
The 2 under the console are just for the trolling motor.. the cranking battery is in the back.. thanks for watching ..let me know if you have any questions
Thanks for watching.. I do have several parts lists with amazon links in some of the other comments asking for them on this video.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
Well if you get one of the new terrova quests you can do either.. go 24 and if it's not enough.. you add another battery and keep the same trolling motor. They are expensive though.. Really it all depends on how you're going to use it and how long you plan to stay on the water on a regular basis. 24v is most likely plenty.. but if you want long days in heavy winds and currents and spot locking a lot of the time.. you might want a 36v
Great informative video ! I am wondering if the trolling motor can be mounted off center of the little door in front of pontoon. Installing a ulterra on a pontoon. Thanks in advance.....
Awesome video! thank you, very helpful. im installing the terrova 36 volt on my boat. Im trying to decide what batteries to use. what do you recommend?
Please help me out here. I'm considering doing this project, but the mounting plate on the trolling motor, the half that stays on the deck when the motor is off: what is the best method of not having that a tripping hazard or slicing up your feet if you step on it? I recently purchased a used 18ft pontoon for a song. There is nothing wrong with it, and it is great shape! I'd like to use it for fishing in the early spring months, and for playing during the hot summer days. My two small children would likely be tripping and cutting their feet on the exposed plate. I'd hate to have to remove that plate EVERY time I want to take the trolling motor on and off. If thats the case, then why a quick release mount?! So, what do you do with that bottom plate when the motor is not on the boat?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This was a huge help with my installation. Dumb question - my 16ft BB didn’t come pre-wired with a trolling motor plug. Any issues with connecting the 6 gauge cable I’m running from the battery to the 8 gauge on the TM receptacle?
Yeah the BB 16 comes with a wiring kit if you ordered it with a fishing package and the dealer has to install it.. it’s the only one that way.. you can connect 6 to 8ga. Just take a bit more wire off so it will fit in the butt connector.. and use heat shrink.. thanks for watching and commenting.. let me know if you have any questions..
Do you have a part list for the trolling motor power receptacle and the 45 deg box cover that the female power receptacle goes into? The video is great.
So those come on the fishing barges.. but if you live near a bass pro the service department might have some at the parts counter.. I know ours does.. but let me see if I can find out where else you might get one..
@@ReelLifeFisherman Thanks, do you know what they are called. We don't have a Bass Pro in my area, the closest one in my area is about 100 miles away. If I knew what it was called I could tell them over the phone. Thanks again for your help
Thanks for your time in doing the video, I just bought a 2020 Sun Tracker 22ft fishing barge with a 115hp Mercury Command Thrust motor and now I'm thinking about a trolling motor, what would you recommend. Thank you for your time. Tommy B from Minnesota.
A 80lb terrova would work just fine like this one in the video.. but if you want even longer trolling times you could go with a 36v . But sometimes with a 36 the door can hit the motor when stowed.. depends on how the door is .. sometimes they clear.. let me know if you have any questions.. thanks for watching ..
If you install the 24v trolling motor, do you have to change the wiring and/or plug in that is already on the pontoon? Or will it accept the 24 volts from the batteries?
Have a Bass Buggy 18 (2016). I am putting a Terrova 80lb. With 2 Group 27 under the console, I'm not sure there is room for the charger (ProSport 20Plus 3 Bank). I was wondering if there are other creative places to mount the charger? I'm not absolutely sure I cannot get it all in the console, but it is definitely going to be extremely tight. I believe the console is quite a bit smaller than the one in the video.
Awesome it will work great on your boat! You can fit it all under there.. it will be tight! Sometimes you have to trim the inner lip of the console.. they make a duel battery tray.. it saves some space.. you can mount the charger on the back side of the padded cushion.. use short enough lag screws that they only go into the wood backing on the cushion.. hopefully that helps and makes sense.. let me know if you have any questions.. thanks for watching
@@ReelLifeFisherman Oh man that is awesome! but there is a panel (all the switches on the console) is right in the middle of it ... can send you a pic...
Got your pictures.. so you could absolutely put it outside like that.. they are waterproof.. if you mount it up inside you would have to move the fuse box.. sometimes I make a board mount the board to the seat cushion and the charger and fuse box to the board.. I’ve also through bolted the charger with the heads of the bolts on the outside for a cleaner look.. I also use philips head bolts when I do something like that.. let me know if you have more questions.. glad to help! Thanks again for watching the channel!
@@ReelLifeFisherman thanks man! I think I'll go with the outside ... I'm basically lazy and don't want to move the fuse box! Thanks again.... would you mount it exactly as is shown in pic? With charger directly against the plastic console? No worries with the charger getting hot?
Super awesome video, loads of information, thank you Sir! By chance do you have all these items on a parts order type list that you use? I plan to follow your installation instructions to a T. Thanks again!!!
Great video.. I have the same motor on my 17ft lund... FYI there's also a phone app u can download from minn kota that can control your trolling motor with your phone..
Thank you this is what I’ll do to mine Do you have a ballpark figure what you might charge or someone else might charge for this kind of installation, installation only I would provide all the parts.
Great video. Most useful. What is the part number, manufacturer, etc of the power plug receptacle that is mounted on the deck just inside the door. Its at the 11:34 time of the video? Thanks again for the posting of the video.
Thanks glad you liked the video and found it helpful.. I put a link for it in the comments below.. thanks for the comment and let me know if you have any questions..
Great video. I have the Bass Buggy 16'. Do you think the 12 volt trolling motor will be ok for that size or would you still recommend the 24 volt. Thanks.
It depends on how you want to use it.. for light use it would definitely be fine.. for longer use I would suggest getting a group 31 battery.. and for long constant trolling I would definitely get a 24v .. let me know if you have any questions anytime.. thanks for watching
Thanks. I finally decided and ordered the Terrova 80 lb with a 60” shaft. Maybe a lot for my boat but I will never have to stress about power. Now that I’m waiting for the motor to arrive I’m looking for batteries. Wal Mart has the group 29’s for around 100$. I’m wondering if I will regret those if I decide to go cheap? Any other battery recommendations?
I like the Duracell AGM batteries they have at sams club and batteries plus.. good for the money.. just don’t get optimas not what they used to be.. over priced
Thank you for your video it helped me greatly to complete my install on a 20 ft pontoon just like the one you did the install on. One question though, I installed my on-board battery charger in the same location you did (basically identical install) under the console. After reading through the owners manual it states that the charger should not be mounted above the batteries due to the fact that batteries release gases which might damage the charger. From your experience has this ever happened to you; charger damaged by battery gases? Should I look for another mounting location or I shouldn't worry? Thank you so much for your expert opinion and I greatly appreciate your guidance with the videos.
I have never seen this happen before... and a ton of boats have the chargers in the battery compartment! I do recommend opening battery compartments that are closed when charging just for the air flow.. but even when people clearly don’t .. ive never seen it be an issue.. thank for the great questions and thanks for watching.. glad the video helped.. tight lines!
I'm curious how the charger connected to the dual battery, 24v system. Do you have to switch between the 24v wiring for the motor to connect the chargers or will the chargers still charge the batteries individually while they're still wired in series for the 24v?
They come installed on the fishing barge or bass buggy. But if not we used to carry them at the tracker parts department at bass pro. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the video. I have the sun tracker bass buggy 16..two sizes smaller than this boat what size trolling motor do you recommend? We will have 5 people and 4 dogs on the boat most of the time. Thanks for the help
I got the 24v terrova thank you for the reply. I am having an issue trying to figure out where to place the battery charger. There isn’t enough room like the 20 footer on this video. Is outside on the plastic going to work or does it get to hot for that? I appreciate your help.
Dustin Hunter so where we normally put them in that plastic style helm is either.. inside up right behind the seat cushion above the live well.. use short enough stainless screws to not go through the pad.. just enough to bite into the plywood seat back.. or through bolt it inside to the lower left and have only the bolt heads on the outside.. hopefully that make sense.. let me know if you have any questions
Thanks to your help I was able to install everything and get it all up and running. Had a safety question though. With the lead flooded battery’s putting off hydrogen in a sealed environment with the battery charger. Are there any safety measures that need to be taken with overnight charging or anything?
I have this same boat (color and all) and I’m shopping for trolling motors now. How does the 80 pound thrust perform? I’ve seen some say to get a 36v setup, but I’m not quite sure I need that. It can get windy where we fish, but I normally don’t go when the weather is bad.
FourWheeler575 is the main thing I would consider is what style of fishing you do most.. and how long you want to fish for.. if it’s all day constant trolling for trout or kokes or something like that.. 36v might be better because with a 24v you may only get 5 hrs maybe a little more or less with wind and stuff.. but if you bass fish and aren’t always on the trolling motor.. it would be fine.. let me know if you have any questions.. anytime.. thanks for watching..
Reel Life Fisherman thanks. One more question. Did you keep the stock trolling cable/plug or replace it? I saw you mention it being setup for 12v, but I didn’t see you change it.
You can leave the factory plug it’s rated for 24v you just need to add another battery tray .. and 2 batteries.. they factory tray is a group 27 I personally would run 2 group 31s and get the bigger trays to go with them.. then wire the batteries in series..
There is a lock hole in the bracket.. put a padlock through it and they can’t slide the bracket apart.. or just take it off the boat and take it inside.. thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know if you have any questions about it..
I want to put a trolling motor with a quick release bracket on my 22' DLX. The only issue I have is the bottom of the pontoon has an aluminum skin. Is there a way to install the trolling motor with the skin on the bottom? The plug for the trolling motor was already there, correct? How much does the 2 batteries weigh? Was wondering about weight displacement. Thank you
Great tutorial, kind sir! One area I didn't see was the battery hook up. Did you use two fuses (one each) or can you slave the batteries together by connecting + to - then using the one fuse that comes with the Sun Tracker? Also, does the plug that comes with the Terrova 80 fit the female receptor on the boat (I have the 20' Fishin Barge and the Terrova 80)...so it should be the same? Boat is in storage, but it may be nice this weekend for the install and want to be ready...thanks again for your help and guidance!
As soon as I come across one I will.. I install them all the time at work .. but haven’t came across one I can film outside of work yet.. thanks for watching and commenting!
Very cool video thanks. I have a ? Or 2 Can I get away with a 48” shaft on a 22ft pontoon. I have a bass boat so I like to use it on The pontoon n bass boat. With out buying a other one. If anyone can answer this ? Thanks
This is a great Video you have helped me and answered so many questions that the retail stores couldn’t answer. I wish you were close I’d pay you to hook mine up. Thanks again!
Hey! Very good instructional video! I'm installing an Motorguide xi5 80lb. Would like to put the batteries in the back of the boat. 4.5m to the rear of the boat. There will be a total of 9 m of battery cable. Which cable size (guage) would you recommend? Grateful for answers :) Sincerely Richard

Yura Slezko thanks for watching the video! I would run at least a 54” shaft but a 60 would be good .. especially in rough water.. let me know if you have any questions
Tracker installs a 54" shaft on the 18' dlx when you order the trolling motor/ fishing package from the factory which is dealer installed, but agree a 60" shaft will work too
Mr Reel Life, I'm sorry if I'm bothering you with my questions, but I respect your opinion and knowledge. Can you please assist me with these questions: I have a single outboard with two AGM batteries connected together so they charge off the engine alternator. I'm installing a trolling motor which I will add two 24 volt AGM batteries. I want to add a 115 volt battery charger to charge all four batteries while I'm not using the boat especially keeping the battery charged for the bilge pump. My questions are: 1). do I install two double bank battery chargers or a four bank? I'm curious because in my slip I only have a single 115 volt outlet and I don't want to blow the circuit breaker. I need to find out if its on a 15 or 20 amp breaker. 2). I'm reading a 4 bank charger is 40 amps. I'm thinking if three or four batteries need charging at the same time it would blow the dockside power breaker. 3). i'm planning to install the two trolling motor batteries in the center console along with the battery charger. Will this work, and should I add venting? 4). I need to add wire to the battery charger to reach my two main batteries which are located in the transon area. Can I safely lengthen the battery charger wires from the charger to the batteries? 5). Which battery charger brand and size would you recommend to keep the 4 batteries fully charged? I'd prefer not to have to charge two batteries at different times as I'm not at the boat on a daily basis. I'm looking to install a marine receptical that I can plug the extension cord into. Thanks for you time in responding, I really appreciate it
Thanks for watching the video! So let me try and answer your questions and I’ll send you a link to the charger I would recommend.. 1) so that is really up you and the room you have available to mount a 4 bank ,they are pretty big.. I did not have the room for one on my boat.. so I run two 2 banks and run them on a splitter sometimes.. I run them off of one 120 outlet no problem.. 2) that is just what it puts out .. again I run mine off the same type set up 3)yes it will work as long as there is room .. and you should allow venting.. either by opening the access door and or installing vents.. agms are sealed so that is good too.. 4) it is just fine to extend the leads.. make sure you cut and install the fuses at the batteries.. lengthen them with 12ga or 10ga marine grade duplex wire from anchor marine.. the charger manufacturer will want you to use their extension kit.. but it’s not necessary.. use the correct wire and heat shrink butt connectors and it will work just fine and you can cut them to length.. 5) I would run the Minn Kota precision 4 bank if you have the room.. I’ll send the link Thanks for watching hopefully that helps.. and let me know if you have any questions
It’s a great charger and will keep your batteries charged and healthy.. it’s selectable so it will give each battery type the perfect charge Sequence..
I'm getting ready to order anchor marine grade flat duplex dc tinned wire. I need to run approx 13-15 feet from the charger to transom batteries. Which gauge wire would you suggest? Thanks again
Thanks for the video. Just ordered terrova . One question for now. Probably more to come when I go to install. Should I also hook up a minn Kota Alternator charger? Would you recommend it?
Thanks! Glad you liked the video.. so I have one on my boat.. it does help.. but not as much as you might think.. if you are doing a lot of running around with your gas engine.. it will put a charge back to the batteries and extend your day .. also make sure your engine puts out enough amps to run it.. what size is your engine? Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
I don’t think the 60hp stator puts out enough to run the alternator charger if I’m not mistaken.. just use group 31 batteries and you will get plenty of run time
Jose Montalvo I would personally run a 24v 60" ..54” would be long enough.. but they don’t make it in a 24v.. a 12v will work just fine but it will die in 4 to 5 hrs most likely.. you can fit 2 batteries for the trolling motor.. I can tell you how if you need me to.. thanks for watching the video.. tight lines
Will the composite quick release not work on a pontoon or is just more difficult to use? I bought one because of the compact size and low profile. Haven't installed anything yet.
Hey bud great video, I am getting quoted 4 hours of labor for install of quick mount, trolling motor, 3 bank charge batteries and batteries boxes and wiring plug. Does that seem right? Your video was quick but this could take time.
I know it gets asked a lot and the description doesn’t have a parts list or anything, but I have the same boat and am trying to install a 24v power drive and I reached the end where you wire the plug, then realized I didn’t get the plug with my system. So just wondering where you got the female plug. I picked one up at academy and it’s the wrong one, and Google isn’t doing me any favors. TIA
That’s awesome. I’m glad the video helped you out, that’s exactly why I do it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching and commenting.
Just wanted say thank you for this video, I’ve probably watched it a dozen times and it gave me the confidence to install my Minn Kota. I have the same boat and installed it just like you did with the charger and all.
Awesome I love to read comments like this! So glad it helps people! Thanks for watching and commenting I really appreciate it!
a tip: you can watch movies at kaldroStream. I've been using it for watching loads of movies these days.
@Walter Major yup, I have been watching on Kaldrostream for years myself :)
One of the best riggers I know!!! Good job man!
Thanks bro!
U sure explain things verrrry well!! Awesome work!!
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!
But 12v will definitely work.. I just always want more.. I put a 24v on my 17’ skiff.. and I’m glad I did
I watched your video many times because I have the same boat.
I have been using a 12v 55 lb thrust on a 20' pontoon boat since 2016. It works fine. Don't be afraid of 12v system.
Good info to know. Have seriously been wondering about that.
@@timc8913mine hooptied to all hell and it’s super short so it’s just clamped on to the front and I full send around the lake with my 55, trolling motor only lake. Does ok. But I’m here because I want something better. Usually this 55 lives on the back of my flat back canoe and it’s a total speed boat on this lake with that
Nice video. Do you have a list of everything you bought and where to get everything?
You used an angled part to go through the deck that holds your male receptacle. What part are you using (12:03)? It’s a clean way to mount the male end.
The fishing barge comes with that already.. but you can find them also .. I’ll try to find it for you
Thank you. I called basspro but things are backed up. I’m considering a weatherproof outlet cover as an alternative.
Nice install!! I spy with my little eye that green Bang!! Best flavor!!
Thanks! Lol yeah my producer/cameraman/film editor loves those things! 😉

At 12:01 (and a little before) you show a clear shot at a surface mount electrical receptacle. I have an older Bennington toon and this is exactly what I am looking for. Its hard to even search for because I don't know what it is called. Any ideas of where I could purchase one?

Good job on the wiring! Also THANKS for the time you put into the video... inspirational!
Thanks ! I really appreciate it! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I use that same trolling motor plate, love the pad lock option. Great instructional video.
Thanks glad you liked the video.. yeah it's a nice set up for sure! Thanks for watching!
wow that's a beautiful boat Haha.. thanks again for the install I love the motor it's a game changer when on the water..
Lol 😉 glad you like it ! Yeah the I -pilot is sweet!
One question did u wire that puck into the fuse panel?
Great video. May I ask where you can purchase the deck mount receptacle you plugged the trolling motor power wires into
Thank you for this video! What is the shaft length on the minn kota you installed?
This was a 60” shaft. Thanks for watching and for commenting I appreciate it
@@ReelLifeFisherman one more question, if you wouldnt mind. Would you recommend 112 or 80 thrust for a pontoon(I understand there are variables like weight of motor, size, etc)
Great video! Where do I find that deck mount trolling motor plug?
Is there a specific battery holder that you are using for the batteries to sit in under the dash?
I like either T-H marine or Sea Choice brand battery trays . Thanks for watching
Thanks so much!!
Did mount come with large washers to mount to boat? Thanks
Yes the mount and the trolling motor come with mounting hardware. Thanks for watching
@@ReelLifeFisherman thanks your video is my guide. Thanks
Looked like the trolling motor was too tall for the front door. Did the door close over it? Great clean work though.
Thanks glad you liked the video! And that’s awesome I’ve never heard about that! I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for watching!
I want to thank you for such a great video. Great information and step by step instillation. I followed it word for word and it was a success. Fist time boat owner and first time trolling motor instillation. Thanks again.
That is so awesome! Glad to hear it helped and everything went smoothly! Thanks so much for watching and commenting I appreciate it!
Your video is going to help me a lot as I install a trolling motorn my pontoon boat! I have one question, where did you get the floor mounted trolling motor receptical? I have been looking for one but not able to find one. Thanks!
Thanks Straight up install no BS Good info, I am installing on my 22' pontoon as soon as it arrives
Thanks! I appreciate it! Glad you liked the video and found it helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting!
i have a 22ft also, how does it handle that big boat? do you wish you would of went with a bigger motor?
Another nice job dude... Thanks.
You are correct. No 360 mount for a Terrova. Didnt know that at the time. Thanks!
Depending on the size of motor.. 24v 8ga is good .. 36v I would run 6ga marine grade duplex for either one .. thanks for watching.. glad you liked it!
Thanks For posting very helpful. What size shaft was the trolling motor? I just bought a 20' sun tracker fishin barge and looking to do the same that you just showed.
Jason Sobo thanks for watching and glad you like the video.. it’s a 60” shaft trolling motor..
Great video, do you have a video with the trolling motor on the pontoon in action? Thanks
Do you like the xps better than the precision minn kota
aaron becerra I like the minn kota better personally.. but the XPS is made by pro mariner and we don’t have hardly any issues with them.. and I’m a marine tech at bass pro so we install a lot of both of them.. thanks for watching!
What’s the recommended shaft length for a pontoon??
We typically run a 60” but 54” will work.. just most of the 24v and up only come in 45” or 60”or 72” .. thanks for watching let me know if you have any questions
Where did you hook up the wire that you ran to the back?
Broncin2 to the cranking battery from the battery charger.. thanks for watching the video! Hope you found it helpful..
@@ReelLifeFisherman on the ground? Yes I did as I'm contemplating on getting the same one.
I ran it along the top of the pontoon log and then up into the battery compartment.. I just extended the charger lead wires with marine grade duplex wire.. just make sure you cut and put the in line fuses at the battery..
When wiring the heading sensor, does it need to be on a "switched" power source or can it be constant hot?
Mark Painter it can be either way .. it will be drawing a very small voltage if wired constant hot.. be cause it’s always looking for the trolling motor.. but it won’t hurt it.. best to have a main battery selector or shut off switch.. hope that helps.. let me know if you have any questions.. and thanks for watching
Reel Life Fisherman, I appreciate the reply as well as your videos. They are a big help.
Do you only have 3 batteries on the pontoon? Are the 2 in the council just for the trolling motor?
The 2 under the console are just for the trolling motor.. the cranking battery is in the back.. thanks for watching ..let me know if you have any questions
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I almost cheaper out and purchased the 12v low thrust. I will move up to the 24v.
Awesome! You won’t regret it.. thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome video can I ask can you connect trolling batteries to a ACR to charge batteries whilst on the move? Cheers
Great video. Do you have a parts list of the items you installed?
Thanks for watching.. I do have several parts lists with amazon links in some of the other comments asking for them on this video.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
Great Video, where did you purchase to deck-mounted electrical connector box?
i have a 22 ft pontoon and im not sure if i should go with a 24 volt or 36
Well if you get one of the new terrova quests you can do either.. go 24 and if it's not enough.. you add another battery and keep the same trolling motor. They are expensive though.. Really it all depends on how you're going to use it and how long you plan to stay on the water on a regular basis. 24v is most likely plenty.. but if you want long days in heavy winds and currents and spot locking a lot of the time.. you might want a 36v
@@ReelLifeFisherman does the heading sensor come with it or do i have to buy seprate
It comes with the Bluetooth models most are all Bluetooth but just make sure.
@@ReelLifeFisherman awesome thanks for your help
Great informative video ! I am wondering if the trolling motor can be mounted off center of the little door in front of pontoon. Installing a ulterra on a pontoon. Thanks in advance.....
Awesome video! thank you, very helpful. im installing the terrova 36 volt on my boat. Im trying to decide what batteries to use. what do you recommend?
Awesome I’m glad you liked the video! I actually like the Duracell AGM batteries you can get at batteries plus or sams club. Deep cycle group 27 or 31
One more question, did you install a circuit breaker? Thanks again
So, what do you do with that bottom plate when the motor is not on the boat?
great work. Ur a true professional and honest. Wish I saw ur battery setup underneath. What is the model for ur trolling motor?
Thanks! I installed a minn kota terrova 80lb thrust 60” shaft.. glad you liked the video and thanks for watching and commenting!
What shaft is the trolling motor?
That’s a 60” shaft works perfectly for pontoons
Do you have a part list for the trolling motor power receptacle and the 45 deg box cover that the female power receptacle goes into? The video is great.
So those come on the fishing barges.. but if you live near a bass pro the service department might have some at the parts counter.. I know ours does.. but let me see if I can find out where else you might get one..
@@ReelLifeFisherman Thanks, do you know what they are called. We don't have a Bass Pro in my area, the closest one in my area is about 100 miles away. If I knew what it was called I could tell them over the phone. Thanks again for your help
I would be interested to know whats its called too.
Even with a trolling motor gate that is on it now?
If you install the 24v trolling motor, do you have to change the wiring and/or plug in that is already on the pontoon? Or will it accept the 24 volts from the batteries?
The factory wiring is good up to 24v if you go up to 36v I would change it out for 6ga . Thanks for watching
@@ReelLifeFisherman Great! Thanks for getting back to me. Love you videos!!
Just sent you pics to reellifefisherman80@gmail.com

I like the Duracell AGM batteries they have at sams club and batteries plus.. good for the money.. just don’t get optimas not what they used to be.. over priced
I have one more question if you dont mind? What plug was that, that you connected to the terrova power cables? Is that a motorguide plug? Thanks!

I appreciate it man thank for the help also do the existing wires for the trolling motor plug need to be pulled for Thicker gauge
Only if your going to 36v ..24 they are fine from the factory
Of course going bigger on the wires never hurts.. but the factory wires are 8ga
Hell yeah thanks for the tips man time for me to get er done
Would you know how much a set up like that would cost ?
Roughly about $2,800 or so in current prices. Thanks for watching
I'm curious how the charger connected to the dual battery, 24v system. Do you have to switch between the 24v wiring for the motor to connect the chargers or will the chargers still charge the batteries individually while they're still wired in series for the 24v?
Can you recommend a fish/depth finder to match this trolling motor. Thanks for the video.
Where did you purchase the deck-mounted plug for the trolling motor?
They come installed on the fishing barge or bass buggy. But if not we used to carry them at the tracker parts department at bass pro. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the info.
@@ReelLifeFisherman don’t see it at bass pro. Do you have a part number?

What would you recommend for a bass buggy 16 xls?
I would still go with a 24 volt.. it will work even better for you.. last way longer.
I went with the bolt method. I really appreciate it, thank you.
Reel Life Fisherman thanks for the information. We mostly fish for bass and maybe walleye every now and then. Usually we fish for 5-6 hours.
Then the 24 v will probably be just fine for you sounds like.. no problem at all.. tight lines!
Reel Life Fisherman thanks. One more question. Did you keep the stock trolling cable/plug or replace it? I saw you mention it being setup for 12v, but I didn’t see you change it.
You can leave the factory plug it’s rated for 24v you just need to add another battery tray .. and 2 batteries.. they factory tray is a group 27 I personally would run 2 group 31s and get the bigger trays to go with them.. then wire the batteries in series..
hey my friend. Any idea how to secure the trolling motor from thieves?
There is a lock hole in the bracket.. put a padlock through it and they can’t slide the bracket apart.. or just take it off the boat and take it inside.. thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know if you have any questions about it..
Where can I find the trolling motor receptacle that you have on the floor? I've been looking for it but no luck yet.
Very well explained, great job bud.
Thanks I’m glad you like it! Thanks for watching and commenting much appreciated!
Don’t know if you will see this or not but can you rig up a fish finder on a pontoon boat?
As soon as I come across one I will.. I install them all the time at work .. but haven’t came across one I can film outside of work yet.. thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the Video. Can you put a material list along with where to buy Troll Motor etc. from in the description?
Thanks glad you like the video! I believe there is a list in the description.. at least there used to be.. 🤷🤣 I’ll have to go check now.. lol
Very cool video thanks.
I have a ? Or 2
Can I get away with a 48” shaft on a 22ft pontoon.
What diameter split loom did you use?
Hey!
Very good instructional video! I'm installing an Motorguide xi5 80lb. Would like to put the batteries in the back of the boat. 4.5m to the rear of the boat. There will be a total of 9 m of battery cable. Which cable size (guage) would you recommend? Grateful for answers :)
Sincerely
Richard
I would definitely run 6ga wire for that length.. thanks for watching the video and let me know if you have any questions..
could you go over more in depth on wiring everything to the batteries and maybe get a parts list i have the same boat and would like to do this love the video
I have another battery wiring video that goes over that better.. and i can send you the amazon links later this evening after work.. thanks for watching and glad you liked the video..

How long the shaft should be on my Sun Tracker 18dlx? Thank you
Yura Slezko thanks for watching the video!
Can you please assist me with these questions:
I have a single outboard with two AGM batteries connected together so they charge off the engine alternator.
I'm installing a trolling motor which I will add two 24 volt AGM batteries.
I want to add a 115 volt battery charger to charge all four batteries while I'm not using the boat especially keeping the battery charged for the bilge pump.
My questions are:
1). do I install two double bank battery chargers or a four bank?
2) that is just what it puts out .. again I run mine off the same type set up
3)yes it will work as long as there is room .. and you should allow venting.. either by opening the access door and or installing vents.. agms are sealed so that is good too..
I’ll send the link
Thanks for watching hopefully that helps.. and let me know if you have any questions

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. I'm going to order the Minn Kota charger you recommended.
Thanks man! Your work is clean this video helped a lot..
Thanks! Glad it helped.. let me know if you ever have any questions..
Reel Life Fisherman I have a mercury 60ct
I don’t think the 60hp stator puts out enough to run the alternator charger if I’m not mistaken.. just use group 31 batteries and you will get plenty of run time
Reel Life Fisherman Thanks I will definitely do that.
What terrova motor size would you recommend for a Tracker Pro Guide 175 WT? 12 volt or 24 volt?
Jose Montalvo I would personally run a 24v 60" ..54” would be long enough.. but they don’t make it in a 24v.. a 12v will work just fine but it will die in 4 to 5 hrs most likely.. you can fit 2 batteries for the trolling motor.. I can tell you how if you need me to.. thanks for watching the video.. tight lines
@@ReelLifeFisherman thanks. I appreciate it. I may just go with the riptide 80lbs 24v 54".
Yes that would be perfect.. they do make a 54” in a rip tide I do believe.. but I’ve never seen one in the freshwater..
Hello we’re are you located nice video
I know it gets asked a lot and the description doesn’t have a parts list or anything, but I have the same boat and am trying to install a 24v power drive and I reached the end where you wire the plug, then realized I didn’t get the plug with my system. So just wondering where you got the female plug. I picked one up at academy and it’s the wrong one, and Google isn’t doing me any favors. TIA
great video thanks
