How To Change the Battery in Various SMOKE ALARMS / DETECTORS

- Hi, this video shows you how to change the battery in 5 different Smoke Alarms/Detectors and 1 Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
Hopefully after watching the video you will be more familiar with the different ways to change the battery when it comes to replacing your own Smoke Detector battery.
While changing the battery you can check the replacement date on the smoke alarm and also clean and lightly vacuum clean out any dust that has built up on it.
It is good practice to change the batteries once or twice a year and normally completely replace the smoke alarm after 10 years or when the manufacturer recommends.

Thank you - woke in the night to hear the ‘chirping’ - managed to stop that but as a recent widow - completely flummoxed as to how to get cover off unit. I too twisted ,pulled etc - nothing. I would never have squeezed the sides without your video - off it came - up to shop for new battery - changed it - closed it - tested it - Thank you - x

Do I need to turn off power to it for the 4th one?
I feel that creating a user friendly smoke alarm would make one a billionaire. I am shoked by the amount of overengineering baked in. And the complexity of maintaining it. Is not obvious at all and one would need to read the manual first. Annoying.
Chris E I would just put a two wire conventional fire alarm system in your house that’s easier to work with

Noticed on the 2nd smoke you have the mains powered one; why not just take the old one down?
Hi, each smoke alarm detects different types of fires.
Ionization smoke alarms can quickly detect the small amounts of smoke produced by fast flaming fires.
Photoelectric (Optical) smoke detectors typically respond faster to a fire in its early, smoldering stage.

Replace any ionisation smoke alarms with optical/photoelectric smoke alarms
Unfortunately looks like my smoke alarm battery isn't replaceable. Its bleeping every 5 seconds. Looks like a council job then for mine
If it's a 10 year battery there's a tab you use a pin or something to push to disable it for good. (You'll have to buy a new one after that at your first opportunity)
That first one with the pins is one I’d avoid having altogether. Belongs in the trash.

Our smoke alarm is called a honey wishing well and it's very loud that's why I have headphones and so when the fire alarm goes off it means that the fire or a test and I'm a remember about a power outage at our house building very scary but the fire alarm went off that means it was going off like beeping well I don't know if they're like a fire or not because I was very scared I ran int into my grandma's room and and I slept with her tonight. And this time I'm sleeping with her cuz she's Grandma she's my grandma
