Awesome, we finally get to hear their thoughts on one of the greatest TV shows ever created. And it's also cool they talked about Game of Thrones as well
In this episode of Sardonicast, YourMovieSucks and RalphtheMovieMaker turn into YourTVShowSucks and RalphtheTVMaker. And IHateEverything remains the same.
Yeah, the show had issues long before season 8, but it started off well as a tv adaptation. The first few seasons are strong and then suffer a rapid decline. So, I say Adam was right for the wrong reasons - the start and the end of the series are vastly different beasts and his initial dislike of it is not some genius premonition of things to come. He is entitled to his opinions and doesn't have to like any particular show, but it does come off like a smug hipster contrarian.
@@dirrdevil I just find it funny that the guy who likes to brand himself as an intellectual who cares about intelligent writing watches three episodes of GoT season 1 and goes "ah it's boring". In the end I don't really want to hear Adam, Ralph and Alex talk about game of thrones because their takes are so ignorant and misinformed and the fact that they all agree that George should be happy because book sales will go up tells me everything I need to know about how little they understand what A Song of Ice and Fire is to George.
@@cynicalleviathan3305 I agree. They are brilliant guys and I love listening to them, but they've always been massively misinformed and ignorant about anything GoT related to the point where I have to click away.
@@cynicalleviathan3305 Yeah or Lucifer means Lightbringer or Ideas of Ice and Fire. I'd put my money on Ideas of Ice and Fire. I think he'd be pretty sharp and probably the best channel out there when it comes to discussing A Song of Ice and Fire in general. The Disputed Lands is also insanely good but there's no way Adam, Alex and Ralph would be able to follow anything she says because she's into the deep lore/analysis of the books. But if you haven't checked out her channel and are a book fan as well, then you must! She's next level.
Just a side tangent. Vince Gilligan the creator of Breaking Bad said HE DIDN'T HAVE IT ALL PLANNED OUT and that the results of the show were the product of him, a talented writing staff, and their willingness to change things based on what's working on set (Jesse Pinkman was meant to die at the end of the first season, but the crew loved his performance so much, they kept Aaron Paul on Board). Even Other GREATEST SHOWS EVER like MAD MEN or HALT AND CATCH FIRE (all AMC SHOWS 'wink wink') have discussed what writing each season meant. And that characters grew and changed based on how the actors reacted to playing them, and how culture of the moment dictated ideas and perspective. I think more often than not (especially on tv shows) having a planned vision from the start is what hinders most shows. Definitely plan to tie things together, but don't go into something thinking you know the outcome devoid of real world context. Hell, even as far back as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Joss Whedon threw out his BIG BAD for season 2 based on the performance and fan response to a character that was meant to only have a single episode appearance. Thinking long-term is important but flexibility (especially in tv) is FAR greater an attribute. Just wanted to get that out there.

The fact me an my gf were talking about Xavier Renegade Angel all yesterday without knowing about this coming makes me believe we are two halves of a single telepathic entity
My favorite part of the Game of Thrones finale was when Charles Stiles skydived out of a Turkish Airline and took the throne saying “Your new ruler’s name is Charles Stiles, he’s with a company called Mystery Diners.”
As soon as Alex said "slaughter innocents" at 27:34, it cut to a Nintendo Switch ad with that iconic snap sound effect to start and for a moment I thought Alex was Thanos.
One thing I think is important when talking about XRA, which i heard from a video analysing the series is that the backwards legs represent how Xavier believes he's moving forward with these pseudo-intellectual spiritual ideas when really he's moving backwards and doing more harm to the people he is trying to help
I honestly genuinely cannot wait for season 3 of 13 reasons why. Id also love for Ralph to see it and review along with Alex. Just to see him get angry and confused by it
I like how one of the shows they talk about in the first part , Xavier Renegade Angel, involves a buffoon who is so certain in his beliefs and tries to help people to disastrous effect, while talking about media that is pretty much the same way in real life in the second part. (Dr. Phil, Jeremy Kyle, Thirteen Reasons Why, etc.)

Just one question: Why? I watched about half a season of it and it pretty much just seemed like something that would end up on adult swim at 3 in the morning.
The chomsky honk line fucked me up and then the part where the one character says those are daddy's fists and then Xavier is walking thru like no...daddy..no daddy! I absolutely lost it
my favorite bit is right before the daddy's fist part, when the pain-being is showing him around and points towards the "peak of disappointment" and the camera pans around to reveal the logo of the show atop said peak.
"if you so much as touch that child I'll so much as think of doing something about it" "You wouldn't know gratitude if it stumbled in here and caused your death" (as he stumbles into a room and causes people's death) -weird apparition: "you are now in the realm of brute, inarticulate rage" -xavier: "yeah, no doy"
Game of Thrones was in such an enviable position of the network wanting more and the writers not wishing to deliver, while other brilliant shows have to beg for more episodes. It would be hard not to resent the two showrunners for that.
The thing about XRA is that I've known about it as a Kid... I'm 30+ now but my Soul/Spirit told me to stay away from It because it would be DANGEROUS to watch as a Kid growing up... When I finally watched it I watched the entire Series within a Day and I somehow discovered peace... if that makes sense... The Anger/Beast within me was calmed down to a small simmer...
Me and a cousin starred to watch and get into GoT right after the series ended. I basically knew I was gonna get disappointed, but it was worth it. I GoT to watch 5-6 great seasons of Television.
I have never heard of this channel, didn't even know three of my favorite channels were in this, and just clicked on a whim. Y''all won me over within the first thirty seconds.

I haven't listened to this yet, but I am glad to see one of my favorite shows of all time (hopefully) get more attention! In my opinion, Xavier is severely underrated!
Xavier Renegade Angel along with Jojo's Bizzare Adventure are some of my favorite pieces of absurdist media out there. Season 2 episode 6 is a damn classic, I'm so happy they watched it though. Ralph talking episode 2 is great too since I adore that episode. When he pulls up his shirt during the TalkOH... fuck... I had tears in my eyes. I hope you guys check out Joe Pera Talks to With You next. Its one of my absolute favorite shows of all time. Really a comfy show and its just a season!
As a religious person and a southern person I actually really like XRA. I think it makes a good statement about the bad things or maybe stuff people do that is selfish and go against what they believe. I won't pretend I'm immune to these things either so I guess it's kind of relatable in some way and that's what makes it funny.
I had a feeling that the show was gonna go downhill with no book to adapt because as an anime watcher whenever a anime based on a manga goes past the manga it usually goes batshit insane and out of control.
25:10 supppsedly Breaking Bad wasn't entirely planned out. Apparently they wrote the scene at the start of season 5 where he has the M60 in the trunk with no idea of what it would lead to
@@daevious_ ya truly remarkable. The only show I suppose I can think of that was entirely planned out is The Wire. Story wise at least but extensive and almost nauseating research was done before filming and writing. Like researching and actually interacting with heroin addicts, past dealers, ganagters, murderers and also judges, solicitors, union leaders, blue collar Dock workers and school administratives
*Ralph’s mother when watching his son’s videos:* Oh, you beating up the tooth fairy extremely violently in your Amazing Spider-Man 2 review? Okay, whatever. *Also Ralph’s mother:* YOU SWEAR IN YOUR VIDEOS?! “What the fuck are you doing?!” *Ralph:* “As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.“
Xavier Renegade Angel felt like Catch-22 meets Finnegans Wake, like the gishgalloping hyperbole of the former with the incomprehensible but sensible puns & wordplay of the latter
They didnt have to rush it, they could either give more time to it, or let other writers take over who could give it the time and attention it needed. Also my favourite part of XRA is his monologue at the playground in the babies episode, where the camera just keeps spinning xD
For some reason one of the funniest things to me in Xavier is in the normal episode when Xavier tells Peterson he’s normal, and one of the guys says Xavier’s gonna steal his job. Then there’s this absurd zoom in on Peterson as he says “LETS SEE HOW HE HANDLES IN THE BIG MEETING”. I dunno why I just found it fucking hilarious
Actually, the genius of Breaking Bad is that the whole thing wasn't planned out. Gillian and his writers always put themselves in the corner spontaneously and then they were brainstorming about how to continue the story
I always thought that Jon Snow was brought back to kill the night king. Guess that's too expected though. Why follow through with something that has clearly been set up when you can subvert expectations.
10:11 “I watched the first 3 episodes and nothing happened.” In the first episode it starts with members of the nights watch being slaughtered by an ancient evil force that has been in dormant for years, Kings get together as every character is introduced with perfect timing, Ned and Cat get a message of a possible conspiracy, we see a young kid pushed out of the window after he caught two twin siblings fucking each other....
Bruno Perez I guess you can say that, because Adam clearly didn’t care for what was happening, he was uninterested from the start and there’s nothing that can be done about that because not caring for a series is entirely subjective, but to say nothing happened is incorrect.
@@PainKiller18775 I don't believe it's incorrect because the "happened" we're talking about here is the subjective part of the statement. True, we could see "images moved on the screen and sound was emitted, therefore something happened" but that's reductive and kinda missing the fucking point. To dissect Adum's disinterest, one has to dissect what he means by "happened" and not give in to the low-hanging fruit of technicalities.
Fuzzy Dunlop He made an objectively wrong statement. The statement he made was simple, what room is there to interpret that? To say nothing happens is wrong and incorrect in many levels. The episodes obviously had structure like any story should. There is a progression within those first few episodes that Adam was talking about. There is a cause and effect in the plot, there is a narrative and theme playing along within those scenes. This isn’t complicated. Adam tried to make an objective statement and failed.
Haha, You nailed it when you said Xavier renegade Angel is like a South Park character because I don't know if you guys know this or not but if I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure the voice of the main character (Vernon Chatman) had a lot to do with the jokes/behind the scenes making of that show and he's liked the longest running writer that Trey Parker & Matt Stone has ever had working for them on South Park. So the animation style/sense of humor/everything else kind of makes a lot more sense once you know that.
@a - muse - me, because the books sets up their relationship so much better. The entire Bear and maiden fair arc with Vargo Hoat is soooo goood (not saying it wasn't good in the tv show, I haven't watched that, I can't judge, I just know they diluted it) and the bath scene after Jaime's lost his hand? PERFECTION. The characterization of both Jaime and Brienne (both before and after they get stuck with each other) has you see them GROW. SO. MUCH. as individuals. Hell, the "Noble Kingsguard" Jaime Lannister even has a POSITIVE EFFECT on Brienne once she gets beneath his assy exterior (or sassy, depending on how you see it). Brienne's quest to bring back Sansa and being saddled with Podrick Payne + the entire Oathkeeper shindig, you can tell how much of an effect her stay with Jaime in Harrenhal and after changed them both. SUCH A GOOD DYNAMIC.

I remember waking up in the middle of the night when i was like 10 to an episode of Xavier. I got scared and couldn't fall back asleep
Can't wait to see the next dislike storm of Godzilla review
"if you so much as touch that child I'll so much as think of doing something about it"
"You wouldn't know gratitude if it stumbled in here and caused your death" (as he stumbles into a room and causes people's death)
-weird apparition: "you are now in the realm of brute, inarticulate rage" -xavier: "yeah, no doy"
Game of Thrones was in such an enviable position of the network wanting more and the writers not wishing to deliver, while other brilliant shows have to beg for more episodes. It would be hard not to resent the two showrunners for that.
I'm glad you talked about Xavier
The thing about XRA is that I've known about it as a Kid... I'm 30+ now but my Soul/Spirit told me to stay away from It because it would be DANGEROUS to watch as a Kid growing up... When I finally watched it I watched the entire Series within a Day and I somehow discovered peace... if that makes sense... The Anger/Beast within me was calmed down to a small simmer...
I loved it when Adam brought his mom on for After Earth
That intro was beautiful Im crying
Me and a cousin starred to watch and get into GoT right after the series ended. I basically knew I was gonna get disappointed, but it was worth it.
I GoT to watch 5-6 great seasons of Television.
Make the podcasts 4+ hours long, you cowards.
frank They can't all be EFAPs
@@ergoth154 because they're cowards
They use to do longer episodes, but I think they felt people weren’t listening all the way through
I have never heard of this channel, didn't even know three of my favorite channels were in this, and just clicked on a whim. Y''all won me over within the first thirty seconds.
1:04:03 - What is your parents’ opinions on your channels? And do they watch your content?
1:07:53 - What are the most intentionally uncomfortable movie or TV scene that you’ve ever seen?
1:12:05 - What do you think is the worst TV show currently airing? (Spoilers for 13 Reasons Why, season 2)
1:22:02 - What is the movie that you dislike the most on IMDB’s Top 250 films list?
1:27:03 - What do movies get wrong that bothers the s-it out of you? For me, it’s gun terminology. People getting blown away by on shot, etc.
1:31:30 - I would like to hear your thoughts on 3D! What’s a film that looks epic in 3D or you wish was converted in 3D? Or do you think 3D is a gimmick that serves no artistic value?

Underrated comment
That intro though. He nailed it
Can’t wait to hear their take on Daddy Derek’s new video. It was gold.

An Arya spin-off would literally be assassin's creed: black flag. PiratexAssassin
So fucking cool imo
I had a feeling that the show was gonna go downhill with no book to adapt because as an anime watcher whenever a anime based on a manga goes past the manga it usually goes batshit insane and out of control.
25:10 supppsedly Breaking Bad wasn't entirely planned out.
Apparently they wrote the scene at the start of season 5 where he has the M60 in the trunk with no idea of what it would lead to
Which says a lot about Breaking Bad where they can wing shit to that extent and still keep things consistent.
I forgot all about Jihad Cowboy until it was mentioned. Didn't expect the short laughing fit that ensued.
I hope Adum one day just hums the Sardonicast music as the intro
Perfect timing, I have finals this morning. Guess finals will have to wait

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.“
I dunno why I just found it fucking hilarious
i'd swim through a LAKE FULL OF WATER for these cakes!
Actually, the genius of Breaking Bad is that the whole thing wasn't planned out. Gillian and his writers always put themselves in the corner spontaneously and then they were brainstorming about how to continue the story
I live in Texas and have both A&W, and Jack in the Box within 15 minutes of me.
I always thought that Jon Snow was brought back to kill the night king. Guess that's too expected though. Why follow through with something that has clearly been set up when you can subvert expectations.
THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TV SHOWS, YASS!!! (Xavier)
I got to drive 4 hours north to get to an A&W. Love the rootbeer floats in a glass mug.
I was just visiting my mother with my brother and we remembered going to an A&W restaurant pretty regularly. Good times.
10:11 “I watched the first 3 episodes and nothing happened.”
In the first episode it starts with members of the nights watch being slaughtered by an ancient evil force that has been in dormant for years, Kings get together as every character is introduced with perfect timing, Ned and Cat get a message of a possible conspiracy, we see a young kid pushed out of the window after he caught two twin siblings fucking each other....
That's nothing on Adum's eyes dude
Fuzzy Dunlop
He made an objectively wrong statement.
Fuzzy Dunlop If it’s not clear, I mean no offense to Adam but he is wrong.
Ah damn, I remember XRA ages ago, it's insane but so fucking funny.
I think we owe Rian Johnson an apologize...at least,he gave us the best episodes of Breaking bad and Didn't touch Game of thrones.
What they did with the night king feels very similar to snoke though
I think it's illegal to own people.
One thing I absolutely loved about XRA that wasn't specifically mentioned was how selective the creators were with which words would randomly echo XD
I can't wait to see what Ralph feels about Jaime/Brienne's tv version once he's finished the books..
Why is that?
@@Alberich_Prince_of_Dwarves I think you mean his assy posterior.
Vincent D'Onofrio voiced the man capturing hurricanes, just a fun fact.
