These are great videos. So good I'm like how do these people miss all this stuff if they are contractors. You definitely need someone who knows what they are doing cause people will slap anything together and tell you it's up to code. I'm watching these videos now as I am going through a situation currently.
The nail plate used depends on what is being covered, standard nail plates and boca plates can be used either vertical or horizontal depending on the need.
@@PPG1967 They get used per what they need to do. A wire going horizontally through 3 studs ganged together could benefit from a boca plate as opposed to three nail plates and a single top plate for just one wire could benefit from a nail plate. Manufacturers instructions even show both being used for both. The important thing is, are they doing the job.
You are a very great all around inspector. I’ve been in trades for close to 20years and it is refreshing to see inspectors as detailed and thorough as you are. You are definitely doing your area a great service by not letting some of that straight nonsense go
lovin the videos , i build in GA and see these things happen very often, also taking notes from you on things that i did could not find in the code book. thanks for providing it sir
I've been an apprentice for about 7 months now. I love your videos because it's on point and I learn ALOT from it. Thank you alot for showing us your work you do everyday.
So, in most jurisdictions, an R-5 is required for the attic access door. You can use a sheet of insulation foam board. Just cut it and secure it to the door.
Perfect morning coffee entertainment. Getting some good laughs out of some of these and I’m about as new as they come as a builder. “Let’s just toenail this post it’ll be fine!” 😂😂😂
Nice job pointing out all of these different violations. The ones that are really scary to me are the ones that have to do with improper fire protection like leaving open chases.
Great videos. I have been in the trades for several years and want to be a building official. I am a licensed residential builder and recently got my registration for plan reviewer/building inspector. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations on how I can break out in the inspection field? It seems most want someone with municipality experience.
I did a few home inspection videos and the contractor called me and told me I was no longer allowed on his property. Is it against the law to walk onto a new construction site without permission.? Or should I say do I actually need permission just to walk onto a construction site and a video tape. I did some of that and the contractor called me and told me if I went onto another one of his properties he would have me arrested for trespassing. He said I was not allowed to videotape and put it on my channel anymore. He does not want to see any of his construction on my channel. That just tells me how wrong everything he was doing is
At 2:40 you site IRC R303.1.1.1 for insulation markers every 300sq/ft. I’m looking at R303.1 and it has to do with glazing in habitable rooms. Is this a typo?
Renaldo great content as always! I’m thinking of doing a DIY renovation of my grandparents home in Alabama that hasn’t been lived in for about 15 years. Would you suggest doing an inspection to figure out all the things that need to be done to get it to code? All the copper piping got stolen out of it so the plumbing would definitely need to be re done along with a number of other things. Thanks again for the valuable content! RMR
A pre-construction inspection is always a good idea. You can use that report as your guide or to do list. Let me know if I can help in anyway....I appreciate your support!!
we can all thank building inspectors! without them 90% of the homes built would be somewhat dangerous. this is coming from a 30-year contractor. ive seen some very horrible construction

The nail plate used depends on what is being covered, standard nail plates and boca plates can be used either vertical or horizontal depending on the need.
So, nail guards are typically used for horizontal protection. Boca plates are typically used for vertical protection, they extend up or down 2"

Much appreciated sir

Sheetrock under stairs must be 5/8 as well
I appreciate your feedback.
R302.7 under stair protection- only requires 1/2” sheetrock if accessable

they make a retrofit tent for attic ladders insulation
You are correct, they do.
honest question... How would one insulate the attic access pull down door?

That's definitely an issue that I deal with a lot.

I would start with getting your residential certifications and just apply for a municipal position...they're a ton of jobs available now.
Where are you located?
Grosse Pointe, Michigan
Thanks for getting back with me.
What certifications would you suggest I tackle first?
I would start with the residential certifications. What code books have the state of Michigan adopted?

So, it's private property. You need permission be on someone else's property.

I apologize about that, it's in Chapter 11 2018 IRC. N1101.10.1.1 (R303.1.1.1)....I'll change that.
I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.
Great video. Lots of information

@@PPG1967 Great, thanks for your response. Do you do inspections on Alabama? I'm 2 hours from ATL.
I'm afraid not, but I'm always available if you have any questions or concerns.
Deck flashing is done wrong to save a few pennies ,I enjoy the videos I have a small handful of rentals .
Oh ok...thanks for watching!!
Clarification please. If the back of the insulation can't be exposed, how are you going to properly check for insulation if they cover it up?
It should be marked or identified on that side as well.
@@PPG1967 Do you mean the insulation should have been turned around?
No, it should be marked or identified on both sides.
@@PPG1967 Thank you! Your videos are great. I'm so glad I found them.
No. The paper facing/vapor barrier should go toward the conditioned side.
Thanks for the video! There was no issue with the nail guards and boca plates, right?
No problem, I just wanted to show the correct application.
Thanks for watching!!!
@@PPG1967 Nice work. I noticed the Romex nail guards were not on every wall stud, but rather spread out...am I missing something?
Well, if at any point where that horizontal run of Romex is closer than 1-1/4" to the face of the stud then a nail guard is needed.
Hi!
Is it a code requirement to have bottom of a staircase be insulated when concealed space?
Thanks for checking in... yes sir there's a code section for that. It's in the energy code book. What code books have your state adopted?
@@PPG1967 I am in North Carolina sir.
We'll take the deck down in other words
Ok, not sure I understand your comment.
