Cheoah River Kayaking

- So my plan was to accompany James Burleson and crew on a Cheoah Elf run. James and Deana's beloved dog Bella Grace fell ill. Understandably, James was not able to join us. We decided to carry on with the plan in James' honor. It had been years since I've been on one of my favorite runs, the iconic Cheoah! I actually had never even heard of elf'ing the cheoah and was intrigued by the prospect. Hoping to have enough water to make it down, we set out on a river that would deliver a pleasant surprise! We started not too far above Bear Creek Falls and ran down to the lake. Cheoah Elf! A run for Bella Grace!

Rest in peace Bella. We have a Golden too and they are so loving and family like no other pup.
Thanks Chefsurf74!
P5 wears that boat like a comfortable old pair of jeans and just becomes one with the river.
Nothing like white water to help mix metaphors well.
Yes, the remix 47 was that boat for him before. The remix 59 was too big. Without a lot of other options for his size, we lucked out as the antix 2 is an amazing boat for his size paddler.
I'm really impressed on p5 he is really smooth
Thanks Chris! I love watching him paddle. He is looking really strong lately!
Awesome!
Thanks Ben!
Looks like high quality, novelty FUN!
Indeed Jeremy!
nice footage and of great scenery and paddling, that was true, skillful bolder-garden kayaking
Thanks a ton lou36!
Wow is it interesting to see how different it looks with the water turned off! Thanks for sharing this- it looks like it would actually pretty darn fun to go do some elf laps there when looking to switch things up. Nice video Pete!
Indeed brother! It was like paddling a whole new river that I havent seen before. I would recommend maybe 200 cfs or so for a really great low water lap...but that is a guess...this was 115 cfs..
Sweet , gorgeous! would love to go down this at this level .
It was a blast!
Yeah it was basically a rock slide down a mossy rock, fun though.
right on!
Agree , it’s 9 on the ELF chart
Yes sir!
Here from Crows channel. New sub. Loving the channel. Hoping to try kayaking soon! I have friends that love it. Just got to find the time now.
Welcome aboard Tonya!!! I love Crow! He is very genuine and a class act!
Interesting to see it without water. It's amazing how those rocks get covered with the releases. It makes me think a 50% release would be be pretty good too
Yeah! its crazy how different it looked!
Forgot how pretty it was, thanks.
Did I miss the slide move on river left, forget which falls it was, not bear falls!
No rolls in the Tennesse?😜
Not sure which one you are referring to, but one such boofy move on the left look sketch at the lower water so we skipped it. The dam wasn't releasing so the rolls didnt have the same effect...but we did go back on another day and the crew was baptized!! LOL
Very fun video Pete! 👍 Sorry about the loss of a dear friend...
Thanks Billy!
Reminds me of your Wilson Creek runs at this level. Looks like a good time!
Similar but tighter and creekier...thanks Wes!
I wish I been there to get on this run. It looks really fun. Great job on the video, as always. Have you ever looked into the Rio Lacanja in Mexico?
Right on David! I have not...but that will give me something to do tomorrow! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks!
Looking forward to this video :). I’ve been curious of low water Cheoah and how things change. I’ve only done the standard releases. I would also love to do Yellow Creek at some point.
Right on!
Fun to see what can be done even when the water levels are low. Really cool seeing P5 get out in front and hit the runs like a CHAMP!
Can’t help but wonder. Are you and P5 working up to The Narrows on The Green River???
Maybe even running the Green Race??
Yeah, he is paddling well! I will help him go as far as he wants to go. When you get into running class 5, you need to truly want it. For me I am caught between boating for myself and boating for/with him and other friends. To stay on that knife's edge, it is advisable to establish a crew and really stay after it. At this point, I am just enjoying every minute of the dream of paddling with my son! Only time will tell where he wants to take it. I would love to start firing up the goods again! I just dont want to miss a minute of this time we have together. I think Ryan is about to take off too!
Got one of your videos with a higher water release? P5 is really looking good, such a natural paddler.
Not yet. I havent run it again since I got a gopro. I plan to catch an upcoming release...its too fun not to paddle!
@@RiverKingsKayak I viewed one of Wade's Cheoah guided videos. While I live only 2 miles from Great Falls, MD, I'm jealous of all the SE rivers you get to paddle. Besides, I may never acquire the skills and nerve to run the main 5+ sections of Great Falls.
🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Get after it Hunter!
Miss it , gotta get nother boat
Do it Chris!
👍
