This is a great demonstration of why brand reputation, ethics, and responsibility to the sport matter. Thank you for showing why buying a cheap off-brand drysuit can easily turn someone into a statistic while devastating their loved ones. Fishing is life, but SAFETY comes first! The #1 Question to ask ourselves is "What is your life worth" Keep up the great work!!
This is important to know since a poor quality drysuit could cost you your life. An authorized retailer can offer you a lot of support when buying a drysuit. I’ve shared this video with my kayaking group. The pressure test summed it up well.
Level Six really cares about the details, and their customers. I wouldn't bet my life on some unknown knock-off even if it were free. If you cannot afford a proper dry suit, get a wetsuit and keep saving, or just limit your outings to warmer water. Too bad for anyone who gets fooled by this counterfeit nonsense.
I can only imagine how maddening this situation must have been, but also how satisfying it was that this inferior product compared so poorly. I really appreciate that you took the time to do this video to demonstrate the value in your product. Without it, it would be difficult to understand the differences so clearly. In doing so, you have also produced a highly informative dry suit shopping guide. Thank you.
Thank you for doing this video. I really appreciate it and makes me want to buy your product not only because it is better but I know you have spent a lot of investment designing and improving a quality suit.
This really sucks. I hope you reported this to Amazon. It shows that people need to support an purchase from a reputable retailers, not some unknown seller hiding on the Internet promising the lowest price. Thanks for putting up this video, Level Six.
Thank you for a very informative and safety conscious video. When the day comes I'm in need of a dry suit and have the means to do so, I will definitely support your company!
I appreciate the Level Six manufacturing details on the Emperor dry suit. I just bought the Emperor and want to mention the Support is very remarkable; extraordinary!.
Thanks for doing this, I almost hate that you helped them get better at building drysuits by explaining stuff to them, but I get it. They also will never be able to replicate what you do given their lack of time in the space and unwillingness to invest in the better materials. Best of luck to your company in the future, will definitely take a deeper look when I buy my next suit.
I bought a used Level Six drysuit and I love it. I'm a petite woman, and the adjustability is really helpful and makes it so it (shock, horror,) FITS! Thanks for this vid, really appreciate the breakdown of my new (to me) dry suit and what weak points to look out for as it ages :)
something important to consider is that for less money you can buy a level six dry top/pants and have a much better experience for a more affordable price.
Wow! I’m taking lessons soon and researching gear. I heard many good things about your dry suits and I think when the time comes I’ll be buying directly from you.
Sorry but the prices of these companies cannot be justified. You are paying more than your boat for their suits. There are some knock-offs that do a good job, saving you literally... Thousands of dollars...
yeah idk why hes saying half the price. Ali express has them for $200 and people have used them for a season and pressure tested them. They develop pinhole leaks but so do the name brands.
I hope you reported them! Also, you should sue Amazon, they have more money than the owner knows what to do with, despite the fact that he cannot pay workers a living wage They should be held accountable!
Hi Peter, we do sell through amazon to at least have some control over the listings. This particular suit didn't use "Level Six" in the name of the product listing on amazon, they used our images. So if you were looking quickly on first glance you might not have noticed that the product title was actually King Proof Q Dry Suit.
Is it really a counterfeit or is it just a look alike with the same name by a different company? Lmfao. Just cuz something is different doesn't mean it's counterfeit
ive seen the same suit for sale on ali for 222€ wich to be honest doesnt seem that bad its seems like a great suit for calmer waters in cold weather or for people who are new to the sports and dont feel like spending to much money on something they might quit afther a not to long ofcourse if you are going to go on more dangerouse trips dont try and save a couple hunderd dollar on essential safety equipment like your suit
So it's not a counterfeit drysuit afterall. The seller simply sent you a cheaper, different one. Possibly in error. Possibly not. From a legal point of view, just as well you haven't identified the manufacturer. Why not be honest and simply have an ad with you highlighting the advantanges of level six over cheaper suits? Crossing the line for me on this one I'm afraid.
So does the knock off claim to be Level 6 or just look similar? Does Level 6 sell on Amazon as it appears in the video he is saying they dont, yet there are Level 6 products on there?

@@LevelSixInc Thanks for the reply. It is good that you have cleared that up as in the video it appears as if you do not sell on Amazon by the comments at 16:30. People need to read the full listing before they purchase any product on line but I feel it is best to attend a bricks and mortar store to see the products and get expert advice.
The real Emperor is a level 6. The counterfeit one is a level 0.6. Also the level 0.6 is made on authentic Indonesian Archipelago slave ships. You do want authentic counterfeit products don't you? Especially ones that suck, right?
unpopular belief: In the end your suit was created by Chinese, with their own tools, and with the help of their designers who turned your vision and your designs into an actual product. If there is an optimal way to do it, then why should they do it differently now? If you feel like they are undercutting you it's perhaps because you insist on having a supernatural profit (to cover all those years you put in etc. bla bla ). This is especially true when you outsource all of your production, then you should be content with say 20% extra to cover for risk & interest of your investment. You can't even be mad, as the market grows there is demand for cheaper suits and if you can't deliver they will. This is just an opinion of a simple Eastern European. I was planning to buy the cheapest drysuit in Decathlon for 350 euros, but now I'm also checking on Alibaba. Thanks for pointing this one out.
The fake is a stolen design, compromised by cutting corners and using inferior materials and components. It leaks like a sieve and it's already falling apart. If this is what you want, you really are simple. Hope you like hypothermia.
I've tried to report counterfeits to Amazon more than a few times. They don't want to know. I bought a sewing machine from "Janome" via Amazon. I was new to sewing so it took me a couple of months to figure out it wasn't me, the machine was out of adjustment. I called Janome, life time warranty. "We don't sell on Amazon." I had to pay $200 to fix a $300 machine (that had probably been sold as surplus). I complained to Amazon -- the listing advertised lifetime warranty. All they did was require the crooked seller to change their name to "Brand: Janome." I think the best way to deal with this is to have a company presence on Amazon, then go after the fakes. Going after them from outside will probably just get you stonewalled from Amazon. Bottom line: Be extremely cautious buying anything from Amazon. The fakes, broken products, etc are numerous. Even real companies like Honeywell sell broken products, bad products you won't see in a store. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, it's about as safe as buying on the street. I've been shopping for a dry suit for sailing in the higher latitudes. It's been nothing but a hassle. This video goes a long way to explaining why there are so many that are $500.

I wish your company continued success and growth. The counterfeit industry is out of hand! Shame on all of them.
Awesome Video! Great information and insight on the effort and tech that goes into making one of these suits!
Shocking. Great video, Stig, thanks for the time you put into this!
How can i buy a level 6 suit, on a level 3 income?

My santi drysuit has neoprene socks too. They are brilliant.
Where are your suits made?
That is wild! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for putting this out there!
Great video. I think the down side of this video is that if the counterfeiters watch it, they'll know what to improve to build a better counterfeit.
Thank you & I am thinking the Life you have saved by sharing your findings.

Not sure that making a YT video to explain the differences is taking the counterfiet company on head to head !? LOL.
Appreciate the great comparison video ! Thank you !
Bună seara! Preț?
doesn't matter, the real ones are trash too! had mine for 6months and its already falling apart everywhere.
That is unfortunate! I am glad you made this video. You should sue Amazon.
Ironically, Jeff Besos did a full Grand Canyon trip a few years ago. Wonder if he wore any knock off gear from Amazon.
too bad that i can't order a drysuit via your website. Any idea when there will be stock again?
Early February!
@@LevelSixInc what happened? there still is no stock!

the Knock-offs are like 1/6th the price... and getting better buy the year!

A knockoff drysuit of a knockoff drysuit
I wouldn't dive with that, I'd feel like anyone diving with that thing is going to die lol
so glad i bought Direct!!
I hope you reported them!

Can't you do something with Amazon legally for selling a counterfeit with your name on it?
If it actually had our logo on it we could yes. It looks like the images have changed on amazon, but it's clearly an attempt to trick customers!
So do you even sell through Amazon? If so, how is one to know if it is a legit ad?
Hi Peter, we do sell through amazon to at least have some control over the listings. This particular suit didn't use "Level Six" in the name of the product listing on amazon, they used our images. @@LevelSixInc That makes sense. Thanks for the reply and the video!
Thanks for posting this. I learned something beyond drysuits. I learned about how some sellers sell counterfeit items.
Why would anyone by a dry suit from Amazon or anywhere else besides the companies that make them? Excellent method of keeping the population down.
There are legitimate retailers on Amazon that carry branded drysuits. Outdoorplay for instance. It's just another distribution channel.
Not anyone has 1.5k laying around. They are more expensive than the boat itself 😂
So basically, what you're saying is this wouldn't even qualify as a Level One drysuit.
I bought an Emperor directly from Level 6 as an instructor.. As you open up the box I can tell it's counterfeit just by how thin the material is.
Thanks for doing this comparison. You always get what you pay for. In this case you got much less than what you paid for.
Is it really a counterfeit or is it just a look alike with the same name by a different company? Lmfao. Just cuz something is different doesn't mean it's counterfeit
Who cares, whatever, I need my coffee

I'm thinking the "Country of Origin" of this counterfeit dry-suit is not in North America...
