    I was looking for a pen and tried a few and really liked the feel, comfort and flow of the OMAS Ogiva. When looking, I tried a number of pens without regard to brand. I compared the writing and price. As the reviewer stated, there is ease of writing and changing width-i use a fine nib because I like to print and am able to print quite small or large. I see the comments about the look of the nib and comparison to an OMAS before the change in ownership. Not sure the comments are from folks who have tried this pen...everyone has their own likes, I understand. For the price, this pen beats other pens in this price point and is more flexible than steel nibs in the category. Happy to use it. Not a collector just wanted a super pen to use.

    Santini makes gorgeous pens and they make their own gold nibs. I have one in ebonite and plan a second soon. I have to say that this new Ogiva does not impress me very much. It seems like a pale imitation of the wonderful Ogivas of the past.

    I'd love to see the nib size comparisons of the Santini Giant to other big nibbed pens like Pelikan M1000, Pilot Custom Urushi, Namiki Emperor, MB 149, etc. I saw a video of someone holding up a Santini Giant to MB 149 and Sailor King of Pen, and the Santini Giant's nib dwarfed both of them. I was confused, because I thought they were all number 8 nibs.

    David, I think you gave a good synopsis of what is happening now with OMAS. Not many know of the two different websites, furthering the confusion. I think this version looks much better than the Ogiva 222. It does not look like steps were skipped. The nib though is a question. Are they using the loose stock OMAS nibs, or are these nibs brand new? They certainty have the look, but not the shape. Unfortunately, I don't see myself with this pen. I have seen the new Paragon, and am very disappointed. I am scared to see what the new 360 will look like. I think they should just let OMAS rest. I feel the true successor to OMAS is SCRIBO.

      Seconded! I have the old Paragon, Ogiva and I finally bought the Iceberg 360 (circa 2000), I talked about badly wanting. I have carefully looked at, and considered the newest, revived OMAS pens. But sadly, I’m not impressed or interested enough to part with my money to buy any of them, including the pen David reviews here.
      I have ordered my first Scribo - a blue-black Feel with a 14k gold broad nib. Not least because, as you quite correctly said, Scribo is really the actual successor and near-reincarnation of OMAS, with those stellar nibs of yore, today.

      @@ironmic9244 ..Hi, buddy! I swear I did not own any OMAS a year ago. So, you remembered and called that correctly. Then, I went on a roll and bought the three OMAS pens I now own, in the space of 6-7 months. I love them all dearly. The white 360 is great. In fact almost all the colors I have seen of the 360 are extremely appealing (except a light brown/caramel one). I wanted the dark green and yellow most. But the iceberg white is swell, too. And a stellar nib, no question. I had to settle for the 18k Fine because that was what came with the pen.
      Yes, the 14k nib on my Scribo is a flex (flessible) nib, and to confirm, it is indeed a broad. I think I want an F, too. That would maybe greatly accentuate the flex qualities of the nib. In any case, flex apart, I’m expecting the nib to be quite sublime.
      And I reckon these new Italian acquisitions would only add to and enhance, not depose my longstanding favorites among my Auroras and Sailors. Btw, lest you didn’t know, Montegrappa and Stipula are very close to my heart. ❤️
      I bought two more recently to add to my previous fleet of seven Stipula pens.
      Edit: I admit your informed and enthusiastic endorsement of and encouraging words persuaded me to go for the OMAS pens - especially the iceberg 360.

    Good review as always, David. I have to say I'm not impressed with the new Ogiva, especially the orange finish of the one reviewed. I've never liked translucent pens because I consider them to be a company's way of skimping on the exterior finish. Granted, the new Ogiva has a 14K gold nib and is a piston filler. Historically, Omas pens were high quality and expensive to very expensive in price. On the secondary market, you can buy an older, second hand Ogiva for roughly the same price or slightly more as the new Ogiva. The quality of older Omas pens is the reason why they still fetch good prices on the secondary market. I'd much rather have an older Ogiva in good condition.

      I feel bad for new people who may have heard of OMAS, and think this has anything to do with it. As David mentioned, the nib was not like an OMAS nib. What will that do - it will drag down OMAS reputation. I praise OMAS nibs to the heavens. If this nib does not live up to that hype, it puts OMAS and even my words in a bad light.

      I'm not a fan of this nib's geometry, tipping's shaping that looks so drastically different from the previous 'new omas 222' despite being the same medium, how the ebonite juts out from the sharp shape on certain angle; everything on the nib parts look a little unrefined, that I feel like hazarding a guess that its Nahvalur's 14k nib
      I think from a quick glance, original Omas nibs are always much slenderer, tubular and longer than other common nibs, perhaps refer to Scribo's nib shapes since they might be more available for quick look, since original Omas seem to come out once in a blue moon

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 Год назад

      Hi Ruth, The ownership question is also confusing to me, and I have asked around, and around from the US to Italy.
      This Ogiva looks far and away better than the 222. It has a distinction of OMAS that the 222 did not have. I still won't buy it though. I still do not consider this OMAS. They can call it that, they can use the same celluloids (though not on this pen), they can use the same nibs. It is not an OMAS, and the fact that there are two different OMAS websites only furthers my belief.
      I feel sorry for anyone who looks to this pen for that OMAS experience. I mean seriously, how can you have two different OMAS websites?
      As to how to distinguish between an original OMAS and this Omas (notice how I intentionally used lowercase letters - I am not trying to be mean about it), there are certain things to look out for. 1. The Greek key is smaller and tighter on the original than on this. 2. The design of the key is different. 3. There is something odd about the nib on this new one. OMAS nibs were more slender, except for when they made a switch to Bock, and went away from the Parker arrow design. But it could be a much older nib. 4. The dead give away will be the packaging. When in doubt the packaging will give it away as to an original OMAS or this whatever this is Omas.

      @dapprman Год назад +3

      ScriBo have never claimed to own OMAS, in fact they have made it very clear that while came out of OMAS and have OMAS DNA (and the nib and feed making machines) they are a new company with their own products. The big issue is O-Luxe, who owned OMAS, sold the world wide branding (including model names) to Ancora.
