My sister lived on top of Laurel Mountain for a couple of years and one afternoon she was driving down the dirt road on top of the mountain, very near to Laurel Caverns, and saw a full-grown mountain lion in the road which, on seeing my sister's car, returned to the woods. My sister is very sober-minded and not given to fantasy or exaggeration. This happened some time between 2016 and 2018.
@@americathebeautifulforever9746 There are tons of sighting reports online for PA. Anybody that reads through the accounts will get the feeling that some of these have got to be accurate as to what they saw.
Last year i slept in my drive way it was so warm in the house for me, about 3am i heard a noise in the back of my pick-up, i was in the back seat big sucker tearing the hinges off my small cooler, next time i seen him in the bottom of field walking i had to look a couple times because of his clor, he had been in the pond below my place covered in mud looking for frogs and tadpoles
I've seen one in upper Dauphin County. Behind my house there were large corn fields and saw it stalking something moving towards the woods and mountain. I ran in the house to get my camera and rifle so I could look through the scope. When I got back it was gone. I never mentioned it to anyone until a few years later a guy was dropping of some firewood. I don't remember how we got on the subject be he told me one of his friends had seen one in the same area. I glad to know then I wasn't crazy.
I've got piles of pictures of them from Port Clinton above Hamburg and a few from above Mount Carmel Pennsylvania , I think the game commission is full of shit
You have to be ignorant to believe they're not in Pennsylvania. A friend of mine clearly watched one walk into his barn. He scared it and it took off out the door. He's absolutely positive on what he seen, no mistake. He's in Sullivan county.
There is definitely mountain lions in PA, we occasionally see them by my house in Bushkill Twsp, also see their dens. I live 1 mile away from Blue Mountain
I live in Northampton county pennsylvania, just below Blue mountain. I have hiked the Appalachian trail hundreds of times. On one of these hikes I saw a mountain lion. There was no mistaking this large cat with any other.
In the late 1980's, while horseback riding through Swatara State Park, I had a mountain lion cross the trail and stop about 20 yards in front of me and my horse. Joe, my horse, was a very experienced trail companion having experienced black bear, deer jumping up in front of him and turkey running in front of him. Well, Joe just stopped in his tracks and stared, I was staring too. No doubt what we saw, large size, light brown and that long swooping tail. The cat hissed at us and bounded off. I hunted whitetail deer in that vicinity that year. Found a half eaten doe laying in a small stream. Then about a half mile away I found very large cat tracks (too large for bobcat or lynx) in some snow at a good trail overlook/ambush point.
Thanks for sharing Brad! What a once in a lifetime encounter. Very impressed with Joe’s demeanor. I too saw a big cat in 2012 Clearfield Co. will never forget it and had a very good friend in the passenger seat when it happened. We always talk about that day
@@natedog1619 When I shared my story, later, at a local "watering hole" the patrons under about 50 years old had trouble believing me. However, a couple of old timers believed me, some confirming their experiences with these big cats. It is an event in my life I will never forget.
@@bradtipton986 - love to hear it! I’m 27 years old for the record so if I was there I would’ve been glad to back you up with my encounter. A lot of hardcore outdoorsmen, young and old alike, will get very defensive and act like big cats don’t exist in PA just because they have never seen one before. Can’t tell you how many idiots that have tried to discredit me by saying I saw a bobcat. LOL. I am of the opinion that these cats like to hang out in winding rivers valleys. My sighting was along a river, about a mile downstream of a spillway. Another person on here has said the same thing. Water is often associated with these sightings. Something to keep in mind.
@@natedog1619 My sighting was in Swatara State Park in northern Lebanon County, PA. It was relatively close to what is locally called Swatara Creek, which is really a modest size river that does meander a bit. The "park" had a canal, railroad bed and homesteads in it's location MANY years ago, but is now mostly dense woodland since all those were abandoned.
@@bradtipton986 - I am not familiar with that area unfortunately, all I know is the amount of heavily wooded area in PA is astronomical. The PA Wilds in the north central part of the state is so big it is mind boggling. So big in fact the govt used to do top secret military jet engine research at remote locations in the Quehanna area. I live at the southern edge of these big woods and know that there is far more than meets the eye! Cheers my friend
My family has had a cabin in Sullivan County, Pa. for the past 45 years. About 8-10 years ago (documented in our cabin log book) I was at our cabin by myself in the middle of the week and there was no one in any of the other cabins in the area and it was in the summer. I went out for a walk in the afternoon and walking up a dirt road I could hear coyotes howling down in the hollow in back or our cabin. I stopped to take a break and listen to them and saw a mountain lion moving slowly across the road, not more than 100 feet in front of me. When it saw me it stopped for a couple of seconds and I got a very good look at it. It appeared full grown with a long curved tail about the length of it's body. It seemed more concerned with the howling coyotes that seemed to be drawling closer, then it looked back and me and in a low fluid form moved into the brush on the opposite side of the road. I love cats of all sizes and am familiar with the appearance of most, even ones not native to the U.S. There is no doubt in my mind that it was a mountain lion no matter what anyone else says and if I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it as I never thought there were really any mountain lions left in Pa.
my family has a mountain house in Eagles Mere Sullivan county and my dad told me our house cair taker in the dead of winter practically right in town and was driving around Eagles mere lake and stopped and saw a mountain lion roughly 100ft cross the road and he had his camera and got pictures of the lion. My dad saw the pictures and agrees it is a definite lion this happened about 10 years ago I havent seen the pictures but I really want to
I live in North Central PA, where there's not supposed to be any.. And I saw one once when I was 16 my first archery season by myself in the woods...watched three deer about 70 yards away walk between some pines....then a brown thing a little lower to the ground than a deer walked through the same clearing...then the tail....then the big brown tip of the tail....I shit you not, three days later I was hunting close to that area by a creek....boom...dead deer in the water... crazy
You'll see lots of cougars in Eagles Mere! They're generally there from around Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Then after that they migrate back to their home states.
Pennsylvania absolutely has mountain lion confirmations . I was told by a PA game commission officer that they have families of mountain lions tagged . I also saw one run right across I80 at 4am in front of my car and leaped over gaurd rail and they seen them on Derry Ridge and have foot print casts. no doubt they are in pa.
My wife and I love your channel! We literally watch hours of it daily. Thank you! We live in Eastern Maryland and miss the mountains as we are both from the North East. Well, just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!
Ive seen one in Pennsylvania blair County. Also seen a all black cat that had to be at least 200 pounds between Martinsburg Pennsylvania and raystown Pennsylvania
Between 1994-1997 I was in a 3 man team doing route control at night for a divisional move at the "Gap". Around 11PM, sitting in an open jeep in the silence, the 3 of us heard the big cat very close to us. What little hair we had on the back of our necks stood up. I heard from a pilot that was on a rescue mission there that there are large areas on the fort that white men have never been. About ten minutes later we could hear the rumble of the tank column coming faintly out of the woods. Did that column flush the cat and it came on our position? I know this, that encounter was a class A adrenaline rush.
Few years ago someone in schuylkill shot and killed one after complaining a few times there had bin one killing his animals to the game commission they said they didn’t exist. So he shot it the next time he saw it and it had a TRACKING COLLER on it and the game commission show up at his house the next week.
I saw one about three days after Christmas in 2020 while I was driving through Mahanoy Plane in search of the Reading & Northern Railroad’s Mountain Job that typically runs from Tamaqua to Mount Carmel and return, Monday through Friday. At first glance, I thought it was a dear, but the long tail immediately told me that it was, beyond the shadow of a doubt, a mountain lion. It was an amazing sight to behold. Ever since Monday the 28th of December, 2020, I’ve been that much more careful, alert, and aware of my surroundings because you never know if you might find yourself in a mountain lion’s line of sight.
I saw one back in !963 in Ashland with my Grandpop while he was spotting for deer, it had come out of the hills above Eureka Park, I was 10 years old, since they lived right around the corner from the park, the next day I went to where I saw it and found some tracks, I didn't go hiking in the hills till a few years after that
I went on a train from Chicago to Harper’s Ferry and when we left Pittsburgh (pretty sure it was Pittsburgh), there was a mountain lion standing on one of the rocky cliff faces. It was massive.
have trail-cam pics of one here in central Luzerne county, Penobscot mountain. based on the size of the trees and a log in the frame with it and the long tail it's not a house cat or a bobcat.
My father, in 1958, was hunting dear on the north side of Blue Mountain. During the hunt he saw a mountain lion on one of the game trails. I have zero reason NOT to believe that he did, indeed, see that mountain lion on Blue Mountain in 1958.
The "Nittany Lion" was a mountain lion that is used as their mascot (currently stuffed and mounted in one of the Penn State libraries) was killed on Panther Mountain in Susquehanna County by Samuel Brush...a distant relative of mine. Also it connects to our backyard. I KNOW there was a Mountain Lion in this same area as of 1997...I say was because there was one "poached" at the foot of one of our stone quarries in a rubble pile, and killed during deer season - I physically put my hand on it, touched it, had it's paw in my hand, felt the tail which felt like grabbing a strong skinny arm and looked in its mouth and the teeth were crazy. I was sworn to never say anything, but as years passed I realized how rare it was and feel terrible. People since then have said they have seen or heard another another up there. Its not extinct. That is absolute nonsense. And this plays to the benefit of the fracking and stone quarry companies if it were, because imagine how many would have to shutdown because of habitation if it were physically proven to be around.
Great topic! One that has been debated heavily around here. Back in the late 90's, I heard a cougar on the Broad Mt. A few years later, a couple hunters came across a deer, 30 ft. up in the crotch of a tree. (I saw pictures) So yeah, I believe there are mt. lions in PA, and no one including the game commission will ever convince me otherwise. There are sightings, but they always get dismissed.
Barb Hummel. My brother asked a game warden about this topic. And how we've seen them at our cabin in bald eagle state forest by laurelton. His tails as long as his body and is about 3 ft at the shoulder. All tan. The game warden laughed and said maybe someone's pet got loose. My brother asked what would happen if we shot it took it to Harrisburg and threw it on there steps so they could do tests. My brother was told if it was an eastern Mr. Lion he would be arrested. And my brother looked right in his face and asked how he could be arrested for something u say doesn't exist. Then he asked what the game commission was hiding. And he was then escorted from the table. Happened at the Harrisburg eastern sportsman show this year.
Darren Troup I believe it! Back when Dr. Alt, who was the bear expert in PA, was put in charge of the deer population, there were more sightings around here. It was brought up to a local GC officer and the same thing was said. Also the hunter, wearing a Control-Alt-Delete hat, was told to remove it. Typical government comraderie.
Sighting in York County last week captured from a house surveillance camera....commission said "its a house cat" 🤣 🤣 🤣 ain't no way the cat in that photo is a house cat
Thanks for posting this. I'm a fan of your videos. I'm going to need to change the lyrics to my song to "the 1870's berks county hills" regarding our last mountain lion. I was off by 20 years. thanks for all you do to promote PA natural history!
I live on the monroe carbon county line here in pa. I seen 3 over the years. If you going looking for them you will never find one. You only see them by a very lucky chance The pa game commison says thete not year. They are
Yep. I'm in Kresgeville, and heard one last night. Thought it was a bobcat, but went on youtube this morning and found a recording of a female mating call. 100% for sure that I was I heard. Without a doubt.
I had one in my yard in Gouldsboro Pa in the 1990s It was very calm and just walked through, looked at me, and kept on going. I wasn’t scared either, I thought it was a beautiful animal. Quite a few people also saw it that summer
As a retired person who does not live in PA. now days I have seen their tracks and have heard them roar or scream.( what ever you want to call their vocal sound ) while hunting and I can also verify that coyotes were introduced into PA. My friend ( now deceased ) saw them in the old ammo bunkers in the game commission grounds near Allenwood . The ammo bunkers are like Hugh round cement domes with ventilated door and top. These were introduced to control the deer population of PA.
Coyotes are definitely in PA. I live in chester county near the Berks county line and we have seen multiple running through the horse field behind our house
Bryant Friday awesome, did you post the picture anywhere to be seen? I have hunted near there many of years there is definitely a hell of alot of remote mountain ground up in that area.
Had a once in a lifetime sighting myself in Clearfield County in 2012. Thankfully I had a good friend with me to support the claim. We still haven’t told many people, anytime we try to bring it up we’re always shot down with claims of BS. Any way you could share that photo with me? I live in the area, and would appreciate it more than you’d ever know.
Interesting video. Like almost all your videos, it held my interest. I'd like to think there are still mountain lions in PA. There are so many state forests in the Eastern part of the State that it seems possible!. You mentioned in one of your videos that you teach school. What grade do you teach? What subject? My guess is eighth grade history or social studies. Do you ever show your videos to your students? I think those kids are fortunate to have as guy like you as their teacher! Keep up the good work!
Chris Ackerley Could be completely false as stories tend to change or are made up. A buddy of mine's father and uncle are both loggers and I think it was his uncle supposedly saw one. Somewhere around Bedford County. There's a pile of acreage all around so it could be possible.
I've seen plenty of bobcats in PA, and some big tracks that may have been mountain lion in Lycoming County. I did see a very rare Timber Wolf in PA near Bear Creek.
The coyotes in PA (all eastern states) are bigger than western coyotes because they are coywolves---western coyotes who bred with eastern wolves after they were driven north to Canada long ago. They then dispersed over time back down east. Their DNA is western coyote, eastern wolf with some domestic dog mixed in. Look it up.
My dad brother and I were grouse hunting a few years ago near my home in NEPA. We followed very large tracks of a cat in fresh snow. Seemed extra large to be a bobcat, and I believe it was a mountain lion. As an environmentalist, I’d love for it to truly have been a mountain lion.
Those are dispersing males from the Dakota's. We have them come through Wisconsin quite often. One was killed by a vehicle in Connecticut. But the DNA suggest it came from south Dakota. It's fascinating.
Hello. Cougars, Panthers, Mountain Lions have been there all along. Just ask the locals/ backwoodsmen . The Big Cats don’t respect mankind’s political boundaries, and so are in neighboring states. The males have a territory usually in excess of 150 sq.miles. The females a bit less. I have seen them in West Tennessee and Central Arkansas.
Kevin Pride Mountain Lions are the widest ranging Apex Predator species in North America, ranging from Northern Canada all the way down to Mexico. I swear the only part of America where they are not sighted is New England.
Ed Leo Really? I could picture them in the dense Northern forests of Maine or possibly Vermont but besides that the majority of New England seems too urban for cougars.
Man, there is a lot of animals in PA woods that they say ain't here anymore. Truly believe it should stay that way. Stay in the shadows cause some douche bag will kill them. Great vid. And no I will not say where We have seen them and been since ...nevermind. Thanks great vid
FYI ~ About 50 years ago I was visiting a neighbor at her farmhouse in green county, NY when another neighbor (guy) drove into the yard and told us he just shot a big cat. He opened the trunk of the car and there was a huge beautiful tan mountain lion filling the trunk. It was perfect and still soft...... it's fur so smooth. Extinct for a hundred years ??? Sure ! Not this one. He was quiet well fed in the Catskill forests. Also have 6 friends who have seen one at different times and different areas. Those in the past 20 years! SO0o.... mmmmm !
Saw one in Clearfield County, 2012. A good friend was with me when it crossed our path. Needless to say we hardly spoke a word for several minutes afterward. Totally shocked. Finally I mumbled, ‘you know damn well nobody’s gonna believe this..’
I’m born and raised in Hamburg Pennsylvania my father was a very avid hunter and he told me so many times of the time he saw one while hunting in the late 90’s right before I was born. He was archery hunting on sousley road right off route 143 in Greenwich township on the mountain when he saw one run across the trail around 150 yards in front of him and he didn’t see it ever again. He swore it wasn’t a bobcat or any other big animal he’s seen in the woods before, what’s funny is the only odd animal I’ve ever seen in the woods was a pig😂
breeding population, yes. i have seen and others the young ones a few times in the last 30 years in PA. They have sub-dermal inplants in them for tracking. So if you shoot one, skin it, expect to have a game warden and biologists show up. That has happened in Susquehanna county recently.
I have also heard that a breeding pair of wolverines were sighted about 50 miles north of Clarion. This was in 2017. Now I hear there are several living in northwest PA. Wildlife is making a comeback in 2020 due to COVID and people not on the go as much. Let hope they do not cull through a hunt. We need more wild America. We are too quick to call for hunts.
In the past, whatever a hunter or somebody mentioned the word mountain lion to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, they were treated in a very condescending way like a child who just claimed to see the boogeyman. It's my understanding, that the Pennsylvania Game Commission does now acknowledge the existence of mountain lions in Pennsylvania just not the same species or subspecies that is native to the area. I think the Pennsylvania Game Commission is attempting to make some much-needed improvements in the public relations area. Hopefully, managing a deer herd with chronic wasting disease doesn't ruin any advancements that they've made in recent years.
@@starstepney2332that sounds like a good idea but I believe capturing deer in a way that they don't harm themselves is easier said than done. All that deer medicine would get very expensive.
@@starstepney2332 We need more mountain lions and other predators to thin out the disease weakened whitetail deer. Natural control of diseased wildlife.
100% forsure they are here. Me and my Son's were camping at Woodcock in Crawford County and one came into our campsite and didn't want to leave. Even with a fire going. Got to the point My Son almost had to shoot it it just wouldn't leave
I know this is an older video, and the subject is up for debate, but, when I was still working as a truck driver this happened: I was heading east on Rt322 , west of Philipsburg about 6 miles. It was broad daylight. Passing through a wooded area an animal entered the road in front of me followed by a kitten . My first thought was that it was a bobcat ,but it was too big and the tail was long. The color was similar to a bobcat. Unfortunately, the kitten was run over by another truck coming the opposite way. Very sad. We run a cattery of pure breed cats. I know my cats and their features. These animals definitely were not bobcats. I think they were mountain lions. Adding to this one has to remember that there would have been a male around to create that kitten.
The Nittany lion was shot in the 1850's in Oakland Township behind the Brushville Baptist Church. Jasper T. Jennings wrote the accounting of what happened that day from the spotting on the Old Summersville Road to what ridge and rock formation it was shot at. Those of us that have hunted that patch of woods, are sure that we can say within 50 ft where it was shot. The words used to describe that area are the same that we had passed down to us.
I remember my Grandfather finding Bear tracks in the rural part of Greencastle Pa in the ‘70’s. I live in Florida now and we are having bears and coyotes moving in. Alligators go where they want to. Florida Panthers are always hanging around.
I have seen two in the last 10 years. There is no mistaking one when you see it with that beautiful color and that tail. One chased a deer across the road in front of me and i almost hit it. Got an up close view of it. That was in Jefferson Co. The other i saw on an old mining road in Elk Co. when i was on a walk. Crossed in front of me about 40 yds ahead of me...was not a house cat or a bob cat. I know the difference.
There was a Mt Lion Pic taken by a trail cam in 2011 on Big Penn. Top of Camel BackSki resort. Another one take more recently, late 20teens in Wyoming County. They migrate. If they are in the Rockies the. We have them here.
Ive seen Mountain lions in Virginia when I was a kid in the 1960s and we talked to the Park Rangers in shanendoah national Park who live there and see mountain lions very commonly for a mountain lion sighting.
The State Game Commision knows there are quite a few in Dauphin County. One was hit by a car on Peter's Mountain Rd a couple years ago. They've also been verified in quite a few places in the midstate in the past 5yrs. Bobcats have pointy haired ears. Lots of those in Pa.
Hello from rural New Hampshire. We've been having them seen here. Let's not forget that they are in Canada, roughly 200 miles from the border. FYI we have what our wildlife officers are calling Coy-wolves. I've seen them pretty close up. They are wolves, we have a pack of about 8 of them. Peace and keep safe
I saw one once in PA, In forest district 7, Bald Eagle State forest, on stony run road, back In 2009. I saw huge footprints by the boat landing at hunter lake in Sullivan county in 2016. I know at least 8 other people that have actually seen them also
Hear a loud "Nittany Lion" roar on the AT near Port Clinton. It was about 5 miles from where this fellow is. I kid you not. Ran as fast as we could. It was no bobcat.
I saw a mountain lion cross the road in front of me about 5 miles northwest of there, on the Gordon Nagle Trail, in 2016. Around that time, there were sightings behind the Penn State Schuylkill campus.
back in the late 60's the Pennsylvania Game News had an article relating to the sighting of a Black panther in PA. They were indigenous to the state in colonial times as well as Bison though both were believed to have been killed off.
@@overratedprogrammer I was just out of High School, worked with a fellow that was a true hunter in all sense of the word. It was he, Phillip that brought in the PA Game News article one day. The article just mentioned a sighting then went on to the history of the Panthers in Pennsylvania. here's another tidbit...There was a hunt club during that same period I worked with Phil, it was called the Missouri Mules and the only way you could join was, in the presence of a member you had to be able to sneak up on a deer and kick it in the ass. ^^ who knows if that's true either.
@@overratedprogrammer ^^ I dunno, I'm only relating a story I heard 50+ years ago... some said they saw a big black "cat" years ago and the game news saw fit to print it. I don't go in the woods but if I did it wouldn't be alone or unarmed. As a matter of fact I won't even drive through Philadelphia anymore that place if more dangerous than any forest.
@@babyrazor6887 Thanks for your responses. Once last thing though, do you happen to remember what year/month this story was printed? I'd love to try to find it, I know it's a long time ago so I understand if not
I believe cougars have even made it over to New Jersey and found a home in the Pine Barrens, as well as the mountains of northern New Jersey. They most likely crossed over the Delaware River from the Delaware Water Gap area. I have a good photo of what looks large enough to be a cougar track and it was found in a popular section of the Barrens near Batsto. The track was nearly as large as my fist (3.5" height by 4" width) and did not show any claw marks in the sand. Could be a bobcat but seemed too large in my opinion.
Father in law just saw one near turnpike chasing a rabbit. Thanks google for listening in again... It’s funny how this is recommended 4 hours after I heard.
I have heard them at night and seen sign in Ky for years and I saw one very clearly in late 1990's in Ohio at least 150 pounds I guarantee you they are in the Pennsylvania mountains
To many people that know what they are talking about here in pa that say they have seen there tracks or seen one. Yes probably just moving throw. As far as the game commission introducing them wouldn't put it past them for a second.
I was told years ago that the PA Game Commission traded a bunch of wild turkey to a state that wanted to introduce them to their wilds for several breeding pair of mountain lions and released the lions in the wilderness in PA.
My family saw a huge black cat / panther years ago twice in a couple years . We lived in the woods growing up . I know people will think this is bull but I know what we saw. We grew up on a farm . Cows sheep chickens etc. I know how big it was
I am sure there are a few roaming around. PA has the perfect terrain for them. Lots of steep cliffs and ridges and tons of deer. They are in Michigan now so just a matter of time before they fully return.
Ever hiked mt.pisgah in carbon county? awesome place ive been wanting to go to for some time. theres a beautiful view and some crazy rock/cliff formations as well as some ponds that look like quarries or big springs up by the top
We have mountain lions out here in California. Too many. Too many, in fact, that hikers get attacked or killed periodically. We should send you some. LOL
Yes, true, too many. Lots of food for big cats. When I lived in Marin county, CA, my daughter and I went to a park on Mt Tam with some friends. As we were walking around talking, we heard a low rumbling from the trees. We all stopped to listen, then she screamed her roar at us as if to say "Get out of here!" So, we did.
The only mountain lions I've experienced (thankfully) were either in a zoo near here(Nay Aug Park in Scranton) or in a video game(Grand Theft Auto V and/or Red Dead Redemption). But I'll admit they were a royal pita in RDR/GTA V. Once you see the red dot on the mini map you know it's too late. lol
Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places if they come to pa they won’t last for to long mainly because of hikers who don’t mess around and normally carry guns.
I Was bow hunting here in Carbon county for spring gobblers close to Bethlehem water shed about 4 years ago. I saw what I believe was a mountain lion come out after my decoy, I was told it was a bobcat 🙄. I didn't shoot or get a picture, I was too busy shitting on myself
Seeing that 4’ long tail is pretty unmistakable, Nick. Just know you got a fellow brother in the outdoors from Clearfield Co that had a sighting in 2012 that left me speechless too.
You are right the game commission doesn't want to admit they are here unfortunately, but the ones that saw them here like myself, we know they are here!!
My mountain was crossing route 405 which is a 2 lane highway. Its tale was straight and was as long as one lane of the road. The rest of its body was the size of the other lane. I did not take a picture as I braked and I was totally in shock as to what I was seeing.
There's thousands of bobcats in PA but PA commissions won't admit there's cougars. Lived in PA for 34 years and have never seen either...had something growling low at us before deep in middle of state mountains but never saw what it was
What about the mountain lion shot in Schuylkill Haven area in 2010 that was buried and the game commission knocked on the persons door and said take us to where you buried it or we will fine you etc.. It had a micro chip in it
Dear Wandering Woodsman. That was Crawford County where they were killed in the 60's. if you want to contact me I can show you photos of PA Mt. Lions. Don't be confused by the USFWS stating that there is no evidence of Eastern Cougar. that was/is a subspecies that may or may not have existed. There are western cats that have moved here just as the coyote has done. The cougar is mounted and in the Pattee Library on Campus.
I live in a very dense, urban area just south of Pittsburgh and last year I seen a coyote. I'm 38 and its the only one I've ever seen here or even heard of being in this area. I haven't seen a possum until I was into my 30's. Seen one red fox when I was a teen but never again after that. Animals come and go like flowing water. I think the same can be said about insects and plants. So many times recently I've said to myself "well Ive never seen a bug like that before". Only just yesterday while cutting grass, I seen a neon green coloured hornet or bee like bug. Also yesterday, a humming bird came right by me and hovered. I never seen one of those before. About six years ago I saw a 4 and half foot "warrior turkey" unlike any other turkey ive ever seen. I searched the internet tryng to figure out exactly what it was with no luck. Definitely not a Turkey Vulture. Definitely not a King Turkey. This thing looked like it was built for battle and I was nervous while walking up to it. Especially since it didn't appear to have any fear of my approach.
Coyotes are 100% in PA...I believe they admitted it finally. I've seen multiple in a horse pasture behind my house. They have a small barn for the horses to go in when it rains. When horses aren't in that field for few weeks, we see coyotes goin in and out of it
They are not extinct . Not sure why you think they cannot be here . Just because there are no killings doesn’t mean they are not here . I remember as a kid they spotted one in Plymouth meeting of all Places .
I have several pictures of mountain lions here in Hamburg Pennsylvania, I don't know what game the game commission is playing , but I have piles of pictures of them
I saw a mountain in Union County on Route 405 near Middleburg about 20 years ago. My boss had one in her back yard in Union County behind Lewisburg. The Game Commission did answer her report. That was about 10 years ago.
I was hunting with my dad in Schuylkill county and it was getting dark out we were about to get up and leave for the night... We heard a really loud noise almost a growl we left really fast I looked up the sound and it was moutain lion. But who knows
The eastern mountain lion is extinct. So they say. I have a friend who saw one. People throughout the state claim to have seen them. Until I see it in person or a true film documentary showing one I'll believe they are extinct.
Ten years ago a mountain lion was seen on the 4-H camp porch when they were closed for the season.. This is Rocks State park north of Bel Air, Md. and another time it was seen at night crossing the road when headlights caught it. Muddy creek, York co., Pa. also has sightings and we saw cat prints in the snow the size of the palm of my hand.
I live in Milford and I honestly want to see one SOOO bad! My buddy and I are gonna go coyote hunting next year just to get out in the woods at night to see if we can spot one.
@@robotron1236 - saw mine in broad daylight man you will never see one if you go looking, best chance is driving through the big woods and covering lots of ground
Cougars are very common here in Washington state. My family came from west Virginia when in the 19teens my great grandfather was followed by one while walking home.
There was Mountain Lion that came into Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia. Part of Cemetery is in Yeadon, Pa. A Yeadon Police Officer seen. There sightings of it there then Delaware County and Chester County. It was seen in State of Delaware around 1999 and 2002.
There was a reliable report of a mountain lion seen in Venango county about 2010. I've personally seen bobcats in Crawford county in 1963 and 1983. With all the wild country we have, I think it's more reasonable to think that they have a breeding population here, than it is to think they travel 2000 miles to get here.
Back in Sept. 2012 there was a handwritten sign posted at the north end of the Sandycreek bike trail next to Route 322 in Van to beware of mountain lions sighted in the area. A very reputable gentlemen and his wife spotted one on the Allegheny River bike trail near Belmar near that same time. One was hit by a pickup truck just north of Strattanville on Mill Creek Road near the Clarion River boat launch . I did see the photo of the dead cat lying in the back of the truck with tailgate open. It would be awesome to actually see one out in the wild.
In the late 80’s we used to hear very strange (LOUD) wild cat sounds in Lycoming county. I’m sure they we’re Bobcats but we heard all of the same rumors about Mountain Lions. I wish we had Big Cats in the northeast again👍 If your interested in visiting the PA Elk Herd in Benezette, PA contact me the Rut Is an amazing time to be there. We have friends in the area and it is an amazing PA viewing experience👍👍
It's sad that the old Pennsylvania forests and the animals are gone. Thank you for this information, Cliff.
Hello Kate how are you doing today.
False I live in Pennsylvania and it's loaded with wildlife.

I HAVE SEEN A MOUNTAIN LION IN POTTER COUNTY PA NO MISTAKE BIG CAT WITH LONG CURLY TAIL THEY ARE HERE NO DOUBT

Here in Huntingdon county as well.

This a great video for those that can not get out. thank for sharing, keep up the good work.
There is definitely mountain lions in PA, we occasionally see them by my house in Bushkill Twsp, also see their dens. I live 1 mile away from Blue Mountain
Hello Jessica how are you doing today.
I live in Northampton county pennsylvania, just below Blue mountain. I have hiked the Appalachian trail hundreds of times. On one of these hikes I saw a mountain lion. There was no mistaking this large cat with any other.
Just saw one today during a deer hunt, 7 min. away from Blue Mountain. Their here
Hello Annie how are you doing today.
It's sad what man has done to the land.
Hello Suzanne how are you doing today.
You didn't see it? Could've been any kind of wild animal
Few years ago someone in schuylkill shot and killed one after complaining a few times there had bin one killing his animals to the game commission they said they didn’t exist. So he shot it the next time he saw it and it had a TRACKING COLLER on it and the game commission show up at his house the next week.
If that’s true that’s a crazy story and definitely proves that the game commission is hiding something
Would you be willing to send the trail camera pictures I’m very interested
Ogre1977 I live in Luzerne county. Hanover Township. Can I see a picture?
That long "swooping" tail is a giveaway. Definitely cougar, aka mountain lion.

I had one in my yard in Gouldsboro Pa in the 1990s It was very calm and just walked through, looked at me, and kept on going. I wasn’t scared either, I thought it was a beautiful animal. Quite a few people also saw it that summer
Great video! I love hiking in the winter for several reasons, mostly because you get to see things you'd never see any other time of the year.
Hello Janelle how are you doing today.
Hello Christina how are you doing today.
Coyotes are definitely in PA. I live in chester county near the Berks county line and we have seen multiple running through the horse field behind our house
They're here in Sullivan County PA. And black panthers. Saw 2 within 2 wks of each other. Different locations. Large black cat with long tail.

I did see a very rare Timber Wolf in PA near Bear Creek.
wolves??? theres big coyotes in pa
KleshGuitars I don’t hunt in pa, I hunt in new York but I do hike in pa and I have seen some big tracks.
Look it up.
I use to live 15 mins from bear creek and my brother and cousin seen a black wolf chasing down a deer.
Klesh when did you see this big timber wolf?
My dad brother and I were grouse hunting a few years ago near my home in NEPA. We followed very large tracks of a cat in fresh snow. Seemed extra large to be a bobcat, and I believe it was a mountain lion. As an environmentalist, I’d love for it to truly have been a mountain lion.
Recent sighting in York County looks like a mountain lion to me. Commission said its a "house cat" but I don't buy it
We do have Bobcats and Black Panthers still here in East Central Alabama where I live, I have seen them with my own eyes, Thanks for sharing!
Black Panthers is a jaguar, very cool.
Hello Kathy how are you doing today.
Kevin Pride I think it's wonderful, and pray they stay away from the masses/humans.

A mountain lion was spotted in the Ramapo mountains in New Jersey close to where I grew up in the 60's Bobcats too.
🤣🤣🤣
We NEED mountain lions. I have at least a dozen deer in my yard at all times! 😂 I’m gonna hit one on route 6 one day!
They need to capture the deer and treat them.for lyme disease and other illness
@@starstepney2332that sounds like a good idea but I believe capturing deer in a way that they don't harm themselves is easier said than done. All that deer medicine would get very expensive.

I’m familiar with that area! Along my work commute. I had a sighting in 2012 in Clearfield co
Yes, the commission claims they haven't been in our state since like the 1870s....there's definitely cougars in the PA woods
@@babyrazor6887 Interesting! From my understanding black panthers are only jaguars and leopards, so a black jaguar in PA would be crazy.
If it's that small it's probably a bobcat...cougar paws/tracks are typically larger than a human hand
Well I guess I mean their paws are larger than a hand. I guess the tracks would be a bit smaller
I know how big it was
I believe you Kathy, I saw a big cat in west central pa in 2012. It was not black, however.
Hello Kathy how are you doing today.
I have family in tioga/Mansfield...we heard them around there back in the late 70's. what a scream...makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up!
Not yet
About 10 years ago there were alot of sightings of mountain lions in Delaware county Pa. The talk was that they were bringing them
We have mountain lions out here in California.
Once you see the red dot on the mini map you know it's too late. lol
Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places use catnip with remote shrapnel mine.
Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places if they come to pa they won’t last for to long mainly because of hikers who don’t mess around and normally carry guns.
@Music Hi ;]
The PA Game Commission will cover it up.
Wrong we have. a lot of them here in PA .
There was one in my friends dad backyard he shot it then the game commission came and said gimme the cat
Lucy L
Why would they want to cover this up?
You are right the game commission doesn't want to admit they are here unfortunately, but the ones that saw them here like myself, we know they are here!!
@@mandiebonez1657 you're 100% correct.
My mountain was crossing route 405 which is a 2 lane highway. Its tale was straight and was as long as one lane of the road. The rest of its body was the size of the other lane. I did not take a picture as I braked and I was totally in shock as to what I was seeing.
Hello Lesley how are you doing today.
I lived in Pa a decade.
Was a thru hiker on the AT
and never saw big cat tracks. Plenty of Squirrels, Chipmonks, Racoons.
Very interesting video. 👍👍
It had a micro chip in it
Hello Keith how are you doing today.
I hiked this area about 25 years ago and I seem to recall there was a sign for panther spring. I;m pretty sure you were at the right place
Hello Gene how are you doing today.
I remember as a kid they spotted one in Plymouth meeting of all
Places .
Hello Kathy how are you doing today.
There in jersey in the kittitiny mountains and the mountains of morris and passaic county as well
They are here , even wolves . The Pennsylvania Game Commission is slowly reintroducing them into the wild .
I love Mountain lions and would love to get my photos of one of those magnificent cats.
I’m a Wildlife Biologist w a MS a 30 yrs exp
I saw a mountain lion in Western PA in 1980.
I was training on I 80 going West
I have several pictures of mountain lions here in Hamburg Pennsylvania, I don't know what game the game commission is playing , but I have piles of pictures of them
Would like to see them
I saw a mountain in Union County on Route 405 near Middleburg about 20 years ago. My boss had one in her back yard in Union County behind Lewisburg. The Game Commission did answer her report. That was about 10 years ago.
I like your content. Thank you for sharing your travels. You are inspiring me to do the same
Hello Angel how are you doing today.
Mountain lion don't take planes to travel from new York to West Virginia there around they have a range give or take around 70 miles
Hello Kim how are you doing today.
Saw one in my backyard in the Poconos. Definitely not extinct in the area
I wish we had Big Cats in the northeast again👍
If your interested in visiting the PA Elk Herd in Benezette, PA contact me the Rut Is an amazing time to be there. We have friends in the area and it is an amazing PA viewing experience👍👍
