  • In this video, we’ll discuss conformity, compliance, and obedience, and we’ll specifically look at several classic-although ethically questionable-studies that revealed a great deal about these social processes.
    Conformity: The tendency for people to alter behavior in response to group pressures, even when disagreeing with the group.
    Confederate: A trained, undercover experimenter who pretends to be a regular participant (but actually isn’t).
    Compliance: Going along with a request or demand, even if you do not agree with it.
    Asch Effect: The influence of the group majority on an individual’s judgment.
    Deindividuation: The tendency for people to engage in uncharacteristic behavior when they are stripped of their usual identities.
    Obedience: The tendency for people to alter behavior to comply with a demand by an authority figure.
