- On this week's episode of #StompboxSaturday, we're getting all kinds of vibey...Uni-Vibe that is!
The Dunlop Rotovibe takes the classic effect made famous by Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower and stuffs it into a pedalboard-friendly, wah enclosure. All the swirling, undulating washes of tone are there! A true unsung hero for Dunlop.
Best Roto Vibe demo on RUclips
Thanks Adam! Hope you’ll come back for more and Subscribe 👍 more demos coming soon
Excellent review! I love the Univibe tones and dig the ability to control with the expression pedal. Thanks.
Thanks my friend! Glad it helped.
Best Rotovibe demo on YT.
Thanks Ben
also Mike McCready used it during the TEN touring cycle esp on the outro for Alive
robert goyette thanks for the tip. I’ll have to give that a listen
Nice video!
Thanks!
Jason Simon of Dead Meadow uses it too, crazy sounds he make
Jonas Jørgensen hmmm 🤔 will have to give some Dead Meadow a listen.
sounds great
Raz-L thanks bud!
The Dunlop Rotovibe is not really a univibe, it is a Leslie type modulator effect. And the 9 volt units don't sound like an 18, not even close. Good enough for some I guess, depends on what you want. For the record, I like them, and I use one, but when I want a Univibe sound, I stomp on my Fulltone. They are different enough to have both.
Technically, all univibe circuits are designed to mimic the Doppler effect of a Leslie speaker…even going back to the first Univox units.
And having tried many vibes over the years, including the Fulltones, the Rotovibe is most definitely a univibe effect and not a rotary speaker emulator.
I believe the naming comes down to Dunlop not wholly owning the Trademark for Univibe at the time of its release. I could be wrong on that one.
in dunlop we trust
totally!
Hi. Can this pedal simulate a Phaser pedal ? Thanks.
hey Nuno. no, this is purely a univibe effect. you won't get it to sound like a phase 90 or anything similar
Learn it right . Robin Trower !!!!
Great vid! Is this the later JD-4S or the original "Hendrix" version?
Thanks man!
Pretty sure it's the standard. There's no mention of Hendrix at all on the pedal or box
On the bottom of this pedal if you can look, does it have printed JD-4S or JH-4S???? Thanks!!!
Mine is the JD4S
@@SeanPierceJohnson its cork sniffing all good play what you got make art dont became gear junky
Nice video can you do a comparison of this and the new mxr univibe?
Hey Mike,
I'd love to do a comparison, as I'm very interested in the new MXR UniVibe.
At the moment, most of the pedals I feature in this videos are from my own collection. Unfortunately, the means to increase the size of my collection do not exist.
Please share my videos with you friends and hopefully by you guys helping generate interest in my channel Dunlop will see fit to send one for me to feature...or by some way give me the income to get one to feature.
Cheers!
+SeanPierceJohnson no way man I want the free univibe
+SeanPierceJohnson best demo iv seen of the rotovibe
SeanPierceJohnson thanks for the reply back. I just realized you replied back 5 years ago.
is this one in the demo a JH-4S or JD-4S?.... no biggy, just curious
Pretty sure it's the JD.
I'm assuming the JH is Jimi Hendrix and there's no mention of Hendrix on the pedals
So you prefer the knob back to about 3/4 the way on chorus sound???
Brian Mcgonigal generally I guess but I mean, it’s easy to adjust on the fly how much depth I want. Recently it’s been turned all the way up.
@@SeanPierceJohnson I dig what your saying...I like setting stuff so I do a hat dance in stage....thanks for repling....
What kind of beatle boots are those?
+T. K. Oh man...I have no clue. I've had Florsheim, Alfani, Calvin Klein. I basically buy what looks good and is comfortable.
JH or JD?
How's the bypass?
So is it a rotary/vibrato speaker or a chorus/vibrato speaker or what?
It's a univibe, which was supposed to be a simulation of the Leslie speaker. As far as the Chorus/Vibrato labeling, I can't really explain why it is labeled that way. It's not really a chorus effect, sounds more like a phaser to me. But the vibrato is certainly a Vibrato effect.
Thanks :)
Sorry. But that drive is horrible... too much treble.. give me instant headache.
vexguine too much treble? Maybe. Instant headache? Come on bro, no need to over exaggerate. You can just say you don’t like the tone.
