The concept is just relatable. You may not hijack nuclear launch code in order to exterminate some insignificant animal that you perceived slightly wronged you. But god, I'm confident that you are lying if you say you have not FELT that way before, Sometimes when a bird shits on your shoulder, you wish you had a shotgun in city limits, sometimes when you step on a lego, for a half a second you want to strangle a 4yo. The action isn't relatable (hopefully), but the feeling of INCREDIBLY exaggerated rage at 1 thing going slightly wrong is something most of humanity can relate to. I find it hard however to relate to the feeling of being spiteful and judgemental of everyone around me based on their surface level demographic, or feeling the need to relate everything in my life to minor TV tropes that are arguable if they even existed, or if I just made them up to pretend I was clever and funny. The problem with Velma is nobody can relate to Velma outside of maybe like 4 people who are privileged enough to be writers for a syndicated TV show of a money printing franchise and yet still bitter about literally everything around them.
The sad thing about Velma is the fact that the concept of a more mature scooby doo story about a murder mystery from Velma’s perspective sounds like an interesting idea to watch,it’s ashame that it was wasted.

"Mindy's Velma" is literally just Mindy, she says she identified with Velma the most and yet her self-insert is literally the opposite of Velma - ignorant, rude, bigoted, selfish and cruel.
@@crazycoot647 Velma could be a jerk sometimes, but two things to note: when she was a jerk, she got karma, same as everyone else. And everyone was more jerk-ish than in other versions of the show, and this ended up having an in-universe explanation. So her sometimes being a jerk was PLOT RELEVANT.
They way I've always seen it is that it's very annoying when a show writes a unlikable character, then gets all self righteous and acts like they're never wrong. The worst thing about Velma is that Close enough was shafted in favor of it. Like, getting canceled is one thing, could happen to anyone, but getting canceled for this garbage... WB really twisted the knife is their wound, and tossed chlorine into it
When I saw this video 2:32 was the exact moment I imagined which I feel made Dan Vs. such a fun show to watch. Would Dan get revenge on a businessman who cut him off in traffic by destroying his house and entire business or just throwing a brick through his window after going to the ends of the earth to create the heaviest brick? Who knows, but both are on brand.
What made Dan vs so funny is that the show itself isn't targeting anyone in real life in an attempt to humiliate them. Velma is just vile because none of the point make sense as commentary, especially when you can easily call out Velma for her rude behavior and hypocrisy yet the show rewards her. Even if Dan is right in his theories the show constantly shows us why no one believes him and isn't above humiliating HIM when he takes things too far. The episode where Chris and Elise trick him so they can finally get away from him is a prime example of this as they used his parinoia against him to finally relax. There's also the guy who stole Dan's identity only to get his revenge and reveal how crazy Dan is, that Dan would rather be IN JAIL because he doesn't have to be around telemarketers than to realize how fucked his situation is and Fake Dan still won. 😂 Dan vs is just funny in how absurd it is. Velma is just miserable because it actually believes the crap it's trying to sell.
Dan is supposed to be petty and unreasonable but somehow he's better because it's made clear that Dan is extra but Velma is portrayed as morally superior
You did touch on this but it can’t be stressed enough that Dan GETS HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND GETS KARMA FOR HIS ACTIONS WHEN HE DOES SOMETHING TOO FAR! Plus even tho people help Dan, no one defends Dan’s attitude and actions. Chris most of time is very critical of Dan’s over the top actions even tho he goes along with it.
I think another huge aspect that is really lost on Velma is that Dan is damned loser, and is portrayed as such. He is shown as miserable, hated, and dangerous, meanwhile the show expects that we see Velma as someone who is maybe a little abrasive because she "tells it how it is" and can sometimes be rude -- since you can't have Kaling's character be a bad person, they have to be misunderstood smart people
Don't you find it ironic how the one character that was designed to be made fun of (fred), ended up having character development to make him a better person. The one character that become a better person, was the one they designed to be made fun of. That means the one good person in that show, was the writers most hated character. In the writers delusion, they made Fred end up becoming a good character.
It isn't just that Velma is a jerk, but its that the narrative seeing her awful behavior as a good thing, rallying behind her like she's cool for being a jerk. It reminds me of bullies at school who do dumb immoral shit and everyone is egging them on for the funnies.
Does anyone else wish Dan would go against impostor Velma? The thumbnail made me think of that. I wonder what schemes he would use. Also, I think this time Chris would have nothing to object. Maybe he would criticize the schemes, but certainly not the goal of defeating Velma.
the difference is Dan usually has a reason before going off on someone making it justifiable, that Velma just does it just to do it, she looks like the "just look at me and that's enough reason" type
Something I’ve noticed from watching critiques of bad comedies is that the writers accidentally focus on the antagonist so much they become the only likeable character to the audience or at least the one with the most depth
8:16 ewwwww Nux, Blehhhhhhhhhhh. Sorry I just hate discusting people like Nux, seriously he ruined another Vtuber's (Taiga) life, and refuses to apologize properly, not to mension the Shaddman mess. Point being, Nux is a big jerk, who is somewhere between Dan and Velma. Granted they are basically on opposite ends of the spectrum, but still.
Important note about scooby doo projects. The season two comes with the first season for the most part. You will almost always get 2 season at least of any scooby doo show these days and anything above that needs to be greenlit separately.
Arguably the best show with an "evil" main character is Breaking Bad. Walter White isnt excused for his actions and eveything bad he does comes back to bit him, at the same time its still very entertaining to watch him desolve into madness.
Will I think Velma already had the season 2. I also love Dan Vs show XD and the funny part is that I discovered the show because it was after My Little Pony v:
Dan is a jerk to people who wrong him. In some cases he actually is a victim. Unlike Velma who acts like one Dan at some points in the show is justified in his bad behavior (ex. When he went to the dentist)
Master shake from aqua teen hunger force is the best way to write a jerk character. Because he got whats coming to him, and he was to dumb or prideful to realize when he got got 😂
Velma feels like it was made with contempt for the source material and so Mindy Kayling can spout her own political beliefs. Dan Vs. is funny because his acts of revenge are cartoonishly exaggerated and he always waits for someone to "wrong" him before taking action. He serves as a vehicle for those who have felt wronged to vicariously enjoy watching Dan get revenge on those he feels wronged by. Where Velma is just selfish, egotisical, petty, cruel, vindictive and self-serving for no reason. That's just the way she is.
Velma is constantly talking about how rich people, white people, men and religious people are all bad, meanwhile Mindy kailing is an extremely privileged woman
Another thing about the soft side of Dan, in vs. Highschool Renunion, Chris got an invitation to highschool renunion and Dan got a spite on it. When Dan has finally sabotage the renunion, everyone praises him for it. So, the invitation was meant for Dan, rather than Chris
Since you brought up Nux Taku, I'd like to let you know that he's a terrible person who's ruined someone else's livelihood and irreparably damaged their reputation, with false allegations, seemingly without remorse. I'd advise you to look into the current situation.
i don't think Dan only doing stuff when provoked matters that much for making him more likeable. Because i've been antagonzied plenty of times in my life. And nobody would give a shit, if what you did had a reason or not. Granted, i didnt have many good qualities back then either. Or appear to havy any
I complained on tiktok that when watching the trailer, every second of it was an embarrassing mess. No one even believed me and think I was complaining of a cartoon show. But you, you understand that I’m not alone on this. So thank you for making this video. Velma is a disappointed mess of a show.
my favorite character like this is Daffy from The Looney Tunes shows. He is lazy, unreasonable, manipulative and just completely evil at times. But the shows and characters treat him as such and only gullible people actually fall for his shit
there IS no second season of Velma, what these companies are doing are splitting first seasons into two. They work on the first half of the first season to get it out, which gives them time to finish the second half, then call it a season 2. The time between Velma's First and Second season is impossibly fast, just like Inside Job. These shows are just made in halves.
Another thing that I hate about Velma is the unnecessary bloody humor !! Slapstick and satiric humour works in an adult comedy if it has a good setup and decent punchline. Like in That 70’s Show where it’s filled with beer and drug jokes but it always has a setup and it chooses the right character to do it
The biggest problem is that Dan is intentionally written as a terrible person. You're meant to laugh at his absurd and extreme rage at frivolous things. Velma is written to be a quirky, relatable character. Unfortunately, she's also a self-insert of Mindy Kaling - making her a terrible person. One you're supposed to laugh at, one you're supposed to applaud.
The show acknowledged Dan was a jerk. They've had his friends say so. Hell it's even written on his shirt. The show also takes a few other shots at him. Velma continuously tries to raise up it's main as of she's a good person even though we know she's not.
Dan is likeable because while he's a prick, he isn't outright hateable. He dismisses people based on how they've crossed him personally and how he (usually wrongfully) feels they messed up. Velma has a problem with the entire world for no fucking reason
I just thought of a way to make Velma like Dan (a well written asshole). So if I recall correctly, Velma was accused of the show's first murder and two cops basically forced her to do their job or else she'd get arrested. That gives her some people to reasonably be a jerk towards. Then she works with Norville (and is actually nice to him and at worst they just rib on each other) and meets Fred. They become friends, Fred gets accused of the murder, Velma nearly proves his innocence but Fred gets sent to jail anyway. Fed up, Velma frames the two cops and gets her revenge while saving her new friend. Then out of concern for the other students, Velma decides to find the actual culprit.
I think Velma was greenlit for 2 seasons at the same time, but WB has never shied away from shelving projects, even if they are well received. Velma was horribly received, but they still finished and released season 2. No quality control.
In a sense, they already paid for it. With most other cases, many items were unpaid for. Pennywise, poundfoolish.
I read from somewhere that Velma was bought from animators as one season but then "cut" into two season so it would be cheaper.
They were probably thinking “It’s basically just adult Scooby-Doo, How can you fuck up Scooby-Doo? Bravo to Mindy Kailing for doing the impossible

also dan is very blunt and honest he owns up to his bad behavior and makes it a point he doesn't care
The goat Dan my gosh that show u don’t enjoy that this show until ur older like this was made for teenagers and adults
This show made it so we couldn't get coyote versus acme
This show ran so that Coyote vs Acme couldn’t walk.
Another reason to hate Velma.
To be clear it was known that Velma was getting a season two before the final episode, and Coyote vs Acme wasn't released because of taxes
@@leoluster5424 fuck the taxes!
I'm still waiting for the Amazing World of Gumball movie 😢
You did touch on this but it can’t be stressed enough that Dan GETS HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND GETS KARMA FOR HIS ACTIONS WHEN HE DOES SOMETHING TOO FAR! Plus even tho people help Dan, no one defends Dan’s attitude and actions. Chris most of time is very critical of Dan’s over the top actions even tho he goes along with it.
I think another huge aspect that is really lost on Velma is that Dan is damned loser, and is portrayed as such. He is shown as miserable, hated, and dangerous, meanwhile the show expects that we see Velma as someone who is maybe a little abrasive because she "tells it how it is" and can sometimes be rude -- since you can't have Kaling's character be a bad person, they have to be misunderstood smart people
Small correction: Mr. Mumbles is a female cat, Dan just never bothered to check.
Thank you for this I thought I was just thinking about it wrong
@@wizard-zb4lp I think it was Dan vs The Bank? IIRC the homeless guy Dan recruited brings up that Mr. Mumbles is female and Dan is confused by it.
@@Duothimir Dan Vs Art
Mr Mumbles is actually a female cat. The joke is that Dan didn't realize the obvious before naming her.
The soup box "joke" was at least almost funny
Does anyone else wish Dan would go against impostor Velma? The thumbnail made me think of that. I wonder what schemes he would use. Also, I think this time Chris would have nothing to object. Maybe he would criticize the schemes, but certainly not the goal of defeating Velma.
Absolutely agreed. I want it.
12:41 and yet somehow they made Fred the most likable character in the show
Money, thats why they do it.
More hate equals more attention, meaning more money.
granted velma got jack and all cause everyone just got there hatewatch fix via youtube
the difference is Dan usually has a reason before going off on someone making it justifiable, that Velma just does it just to do it, she looks like the "just look at me and that's enough reason" type
The funniest line from Dan Vs. in my option is the line "I don't care who the IRS sends I am not paying taxes."
It's bc she was never written to be a jerk in the first place. The writers think she's absolutely right.
"DAN VS" is one of the best shows
Something I’ve noticed from watching critiques of bad comedies is that the writers accidentally focus on the antagonist so much they become the only likeable character to the audience or at least the one with the most depth
0:46 its how all animated shows work. They are basically guaranteed two seasons.
You forgot to mention the most important part of the second season of Velma that almost improved it. The time Velma was unalived by scrappy.
Will I think Velma already had the season 2.
I also love Dan Vs show XD and the funny part is that I discovered the show because it was after My Little Pony v:
I forgot how good Dan Vs is! Thank you for that
LETS GO MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT DAN VS!!!
Dan vs is a really good damn show
Dan is a jerk to people who wrong him. In some cases he actually is a victim. Unlike Velma who acts like one Dan at some points in the show is justified in his bad behavior (ex. When he went to the dentist)
...DID HE JUST FOR REAL SHOUT OUT NUX TAKU?!
velma: lol white men am i right? XD
dan: i am declaring war on an entire country
Dan Vs is actually one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm sad more people don't talk about it.
"I don't care who the IRS is I'm not paying taxes!"
-Dan
I swear Dan is one of the most relatable characters from fiction
Master shake from aqua teen hunger force is the best way to write a jerk character. Because he got whats coming to him, and he was to dumb or prideful to realize when he got got 😂
Dr Robotnik is a amazing character and hes a mean guy so i understand ya point
Yeah but he has shown to be nice some times he helped Sonic in Frontiers and even saved Sonic in Lost world.
@@Chillin-jg8vg indeed 🗿
Velma feels like it was made with contempt for the source material and so Mindy Kayling can spout her own political beliefs.
Dan Vs. is funny because his acts of revenge are cartoonishly exaggerated and he always waits for someone to "wrong" him before taking action. He serves as a vehicle for those who have felt wronged to vicariously enjoy watching Dan get revenge on those he feels wronged by.
Where Velma is just selfish, egotisical, petty, cruel, vindictive and self-serving for no reason. That's just the way she is.
Not only did i learn Velma is supposed to be a murder mystery but i actually learned about a good show. Thanks for the video i will give Dan a watch.
watching Velma either feels like a lobotomy or makes you sad you dont watch the other 20 scooby doo series
11:44 my reaction to scrappy
Velma is constantly talking about how rich people, white people, men and religious people are all bad, meanwhile Mindy kailing is an extremely privileged woman
My page reloaded before I could click on the video but as soon as I saw Dan I knew I had to find this
Another thing about the soft side of Dan, in vs.
Are you referring to the femboy vtuber?
@@rorrim0 the JEW
Bro they ain’t losing money with Velma if people keep hate watching the show 🙄
Velma makes me wsnt to punch Velma so badly. The only Mindy I respect is Mindy Cohn
What about that one kid named Mindy from second grade who brought everybody Rice Crispy Treats for Valentine's day instead of valentines?
i don't think Dan only doing stuff when provoked matters that much for making him more likeable. Because i've been antagonzied plenty of times in my life. And nobody would give a shit, if what you did had a reason or not. Granted, i didnt have many good qualities back then either. Or appear to havy any
"I don't who the IRS send, I'm not paying taxes"

nux be like we found out we have adhd
Love to see Dan Vs getting some love
Velma: how to effectively ruin a childhood
Correction: Dan isn’t lazy, he just puts all his effort into stupid things
Dan Vs. mentioned, video liked
Dan Vs. mentioned, comment liked.
This video made me want to watch the show Dan VS.
Thank you.
Dan and his antics are fucking hilarious to watch mindy....i mean Velma has none legitimately nothing going for her
I want to see someone do a drinking game while watching Velma where you take a sip every time someone makes a racial joke. You’d be drunk as hell
No, you’d die of alcohol poisoning xD
I still watch Dan vs. Such a good show lol
I remember an episode where a fast food manager got his order wrong. Rooted for him throughout that one.
there IS no second season of Velma, what these companies are doing are splitting first seasons into two. They work on the first half of the first season to get it out, which gives them time to finish the second half, then call it a season 2.
The time between Velma's First and Second season is impossibly fast, just like Inside Job. These shows are just made in halves.
Completely unrelated to the video, but the fact that velma got a second season while so many good shows/anime only get one season makes me so sad.
A Nux Taku shout out?
Yeah. Not the best thing to do
The show acknowledged Dan was a jerk.
