You are a criminally underrated channel. Keep this up you’ll go far I’m sure. Unique and refreshing in football social media. I’d suggest a video on my Maltese compatriot, Michael Mifsud.
I agree. Very high quality. And enjoyable / informative.
Absolutely without question. This was simply wonderfully done with insight that’s extremely needed for younger audiences to understand. Seriously 👏 👏👏 Brilliant work!!
One of the reasons why we love the 90s football so much is that players were allowed to make mistakes/ take chances. Guardiola would kick you out of the team if you miss so many long shots and deep passes in a season as Veron did in those Boca seconds.
Proof is in the results. Pep's team was the best in history and the most fluid and mesmerizing to watch on top of the win-loss and goal differentials. Seeing so many top sides before and since then is like watching a girl throw an American football.
@@asnark7115tell me you have watched Barca highlights. without... Watch Ajax watch the Dutch side of 1974 watch Norwich City of 1994. Stop thinking you have a well developed understanding of football. Without knowledge.
@@asnark7115they got an argument like though others will argue 90s 00s there was more competition 😊
@@asnark7115peps teams really aren’t mesmerizing bruey are controlled and robot like. Of course messi was amazing, but peps teams are pretty boring
@asnark7115
Nothing mesmerizing about pep play style
Is just plan boring
No flare no creativity
No long ball
Possession and positioning and short passes
Also that’s wrong conception running around Barca team was very weak on defense they almost lost 7-1 vs inter 2010
And his city took years and years to flourish in Europe
Even City didn’t have many competitor recent years in England and Europe just worst
So many top notch teams have dropped from Veron era to pep era
You remember opening the tv and you don’t know what game to watch cause every team have superstars and player worth to watch
Now …
Veron is one of the greatest midfielders in football history. none of the ridiculous criticisms he received have any value. he was truly amazing
In football history? That's a bit extra
Well said mate. For sure, one of the best where he played, with Zidane...
@@mojebi3804His passes were alien like extraordinary, his accomplishments with a small club like Parma cannot be ignored either.
When he heard he'd been approached by man utd, he thought Sheffield United had come in for him, the English team he supported as a kid and family played for. Brilliant
Also the team Maradona nearly signed for.
Man, watching these guys, football was fun back then, don't get the same exciting feelings when I watch football of today, it has gone down.
Same here football ain't Great no more. 90's was a Great Era .
First football moment I can remember was Lambert winning champions league ! Thinking back, you had characters and guys you could relate to. As much as it's more professional now , it's boring 😂! These guys would destroy now adays players . I'd take Roy Keane over any midfielder playing now - i support city !!!! 🏴✌️ Then you have zanetti , zinisi ( yup wasn't attempting second name ) I miss real football
Football is too robotic now. It's all system system system. Football has lost its raw talent, soul and passion
its way more professional now and players dont take any risks afraid of loosing their spot or being injured. theres no room for magic players anymore.
me too. but watching these highlights i can tell the game has evolved a lot and became faster. sadly players have less time to think and be creative.
speaking of the man utd transfer , its a habit of the British to make good players look bad even though they weren't that bad ... whereas they would always overhype some of their home grown talents ......
Thank u. Thats history of england. When they national team lose. They act like they r in shocked. How is this be. Half or the team played for man u or arsenal . Why? Please
i think he was a good player for united. it was just difficult to integrate him into that midfield and that must of affected his confidence. imagine coming into work and seeing paul scholes, one of the best midfielders in the world, in your position and thinking how am i ever going to to be able to force my way into this side. Then the media turned on him, in my opinion in a subverted racist tone due to his argentinian heritage, harking back ill feelings regarding the conflict in the 1980's. i think fergie tried to integrate with 5 in midfield but it affected the balance of the side to much and hence the reason he was sold on. to say he was a flop is unfair. respeto desde inglaterra señor veron!!!
agree he was great in his 2nd season especially in the UCL. Just got injured in the run in but still contributed well that season. Assist vs Chelsea and goals vs Arsenal come to mind.
Veron was a truly brilliant player, majestically gifted. Brilliant to watch, the type of player this generation of midfielder try to emulate. Being a United fan I loved it when he moved to united, a Great signing. But him and Keane in the same midfield just didn’t hit off, all of Veron’s better games were partnered with the likes of Nicky Butt, or P.Neville. Scholes set loose further forward behind Ruud. And Seba to run the show. One memorable moment for me was Veron’s perfect pass for Diego Forlan against Chelsea, to win 2-1 in (03) which opened the way to the title. Great memories of a football Legend, Seba Veron.
Only at the 20:00 mark but already thoroughly impressed by this one. You only seem to get better and this is one of your absolute best vids. The narration, the pacing, the personal notes, the imagery and the allround historical awareness are all simply top notch. Please keep it up, cause you deserve every view coming your way. You are making unique and great content. Love from a football fan from Amsterdam.
PS I never felt annoyed during the Dundee video about Gould, so ignore the critiques from your fellow countrymen. As a Sportinguista, I loved that one as well!!
Those Parma and Lazio sides were other worldly at times. Veron was a worldie of a player there. The English media though did what they do
other worldly?jesus christ they were decent sides but cmon, niether even came close to a champions league, parma at close to their best barely knocked rangers out the uefa cup,a rangers team with bloody rod wallace up front who never ever even got a sniff of an england cap yet scored against parmas all star defence as did jorg albertz who never got a germany cap, serie A was a bore of a league with few goals you can tell this when hes explaining verons goals and assists for seasons both always being under ten,im sick of hearing how great football was back then compared to now cos it just aint true,id much rather watch an end to end premier league game with plenty goals than a bore one nil win from a tap in from an inzaghi brother in a half empty delli alpi covered in mist lol i know the lack of goals came from the league having some of the best defenders and defence minded coaches of all time but id take prime premier league over prime serie A anyday and thats still despite the likes of veron, rui costa,zidane,seedorf,davids,nakata,totti,baggio,batistuta,vieri,R9,del piero, cassano, chiesa, crespo, ravanelli, mancini, vialli, adriano, brolin, shevchenko and many other attackers having their best years there, u say other worldly so what would u call fiorentina, inter, milan, juve and roma then?not to mention barca, madrid, bayern, liverpool and man city from the 2010s onwards?christ even dortmund and athletico have had better teams than your other worldly ones, even tottenham monaco and porto have made champs league finals, and what would u call serial europa league winners sevilla if parma and lazio were other worldly?im genuinly interested in how u grade footballing achievement performance and greatness as after all it is just subjective and opinions?
He was ridiculously good. He just didn't suit a great team already incredibly functional. But a mesmerising player. At Lazio especially.
Excellent video! This has really made me re-evaluate my view on Verons time at Old Trafford, you forget how much of a Serie A beast midfielder he was.
Appreciate you're time & research, veron had it all a true legend, master class of technical ball work, rolling the ball comfortably with either foot finished with a long range cannon through ball..
Thank you for shining light on him awesome video!!!!
Sad he never made his full potential
Brilliant video, thanks for highlighting the quality of not just Veron but some of the players that have been forgotten about nowadays. If only the football of today was as exciting to watch
Thank you, greetings from La Plata, Argentina!
He was a very unique player. His range of passing was out of this world! If you remember before he moved to United Real Madrid was also trying to sign him.But the passport scandle pursueded them to look for another world class player at the time. And they sign Zizou. But what if Seba went to Laliga & Real Madrid? I believe he would have flourished to the maximum of his abilities. That Argentina Side at the 2002 WC was one of the most inform National Teams in history for two years prior to the tournament. But due to injuries(Seba was playing with an ankle injury & didn't recover well) & deep in form means a shocking exit from the tournament they were expected to win. Thanks for the Video!
Didn't realise I wasn't subscribed. I heard he did things in training that was pure magic.. some players can look great in training but in front of 80,000 fans is different.
I remember when Utd signed him and I thought we would go on to dominate European football because he was just sensational in Italy just didn’t work in England
Those late 90's early 2000's Lazio teams on Football Manager take me back. I was about 14 and always loved playing as Lazio. They had Peruzzi, Nesta, Mihajlović, Cuto, Sensini, Simeone, Nedvěd, Stanković, Verón, Claudio López, Salas, Crespo and even after them you had guys like Dino Baggio, Simone Inzaghi and Karel Poborský. It was a shocking amount of talent and it's a big what if of what they could have done if they'd stayed together. Nedved became the leader of a great Juventus team and he was behind Veron at Lazio. Nesta and Crespo were key pieces in Milan winning the CL in 2007. Stanković and Verón both played together in a very good Inter side. What could have been if they all just stayed together.
Thank you for this video. People wonder why Veron was my favorite player at one point. This video explains it. (I loved Ortega, too.)
And yes, Parma had a dream team back then. That final vs Fiorentina... The kids today don't know real football.
25:00 both were also tenacious defenders. People seem to forget that.
Your videos are so good. The story is there, but also some actual footage.
Veron wasn’t a flop at United no way
Was he a success did he nail down a place?
@@gordonferrar7782 82 games played in 2 years
United’s troubles of 2001/02 wasn’t the signing of Veron, it was the decision to let Jaap Stam leave that contributed to the season finish. Had he stayed just a season or two longer United would’ve seen the full fruits of his talents. No doubt.
@@whiskeyboystve couldn’t have put it any better 👊
Giggsy said he could do anything with the ball in training but his head went on match day. He was obviously a world class midfielder but he was competing with a prime Roy Keane and Paul Scholes at the time and was always gonna be compared to them at Utd
i love this channel so much man. gives such a great insight and context for players and their careers who I never got to watch
Wow, truly stunned how good this documentary is, brilliant stuff about a brilliant player. One of my all time favourites of the nineties
Excellent channel. Very informative and entertaining. I'm a barnsley fan so my coverage is very EFL-Centric, however it's great to get an insight into topics surrounding the Scottish game as it helps us Tykes see where the likes of Nicky Cadden, Luca Connell and Conor McCarthy came from and how they were moulded into the players they are now
A big thank you for the memories and history lesson! Keep em coming ✌️
When i played championship manager 01/02 as a kid at united i built my team around Seba playing Scholes off Van nistlerooy and he was an animal every season lol
Loving the videos
Glad you like them man! :)
Great video; storytelling, images, insight. Really well done.
Mate, these vids are brilliant ❤
Veron in Argentina is the man forever tainted for his performance against England in the wc 2002 the vast majority there believes he threw the game even they call him Lord Veron due to that game if you see the game he made absolutely ridiculous decisions.
that wc was awful for Argentina, but the reasons can NEVER be one man
That's really interesting. Argentina haven't had much of a cultural influence on the world beyond football.
Not many people know much about it beyond cow meat and cowboys, the tango, Falklands/Malvinas, Borges, Evita or their weird Welsh enclaves. There's not much to add on the subjects of the above, at least on a daily basis, so no wonder football is such an all encompassing passion.
Veron was easily one of the best of his generation, Riquelme had the edge on him but it is close , Argentina had some serious talent with Veron , Aimar, Riquelme, Gallardo, D’allesandro , some unreal talent.
Really appreciate the effort gone into making these videos.
Absolutely brilliant quote captured for the very end! Great line to finish the video. Bravo 👏
That Middlesbrough match was my first game ever at Old Trafford and I remember this day that it was Veron to give the ball away!
This is best channel atm. Youre insane. I would pay for daily content.
Serie A in the 80's , 90's and first decade of 2k was amazing sorry for the ones didnt live this days of magic!
Loving these videos, I like that you're doing longer ones now that are basically like documentaries. Keep it up fella!
re: United. It seems Sir Alex was experimenting with a well-oiled midfield but he was probably right to. Difficult to imagine that team without Scholes (as with Giggs) though. I wonder if they could have all been more flexible about it.
Veron was splendid at united, but perhaps the tactical change didn't really work
Very underrated channel
Another fantastic video. Please upload more regularly!
Honestly RUclips has been shit honestly keep making videos really enjoy your content
love your uploads man, looking forward to so many more ❤
just discovered your channel, and cant stop watching.... could you please do a video about john barnes' time as celtic manager?
Amazing content dude ! Cant believe this is free !
Lubo video mate,do it
Ooh, there's a wee clip from Channel 4 in there, and I wish you'd have played the audio: Brackley and Wilkins when Mancini scores the winner:
Brackley: "And that's a delightful dinked finish from MANCINI!"
Wilkins: "You can't legislate for class." 👌
What a BALLER!!! LEGEND!!!
Awesome video, first time stumbling along your channel. I'd love to see a video about another Argentine midfielder that reminds me of Veron, his name is Jaun Sebastian Riquelme.
Remember channel 5 in uk every Thursday wee would get football from different league's dutch Argentinian league even mls .. and weekend was Italian football with James Richardson but I remember watching players like aimar ortega salas Juan pablo angel who had been or went on to be big players in Europe. But boca had riquelme I loved the way he played like he was strolling controlling everything at his own pace .. the player's river plate and boca produced late 90s earlier 2000s they would be there then gone then next season there would be another young star brought up through the ranks d allasandro cavinagi.. big Martin palermo guy was a goal machine at boca guys like a young teves Delgado .. but palermo went to Spain broke his leg didn't work out .. one of the most underrated for me was ortega prime ortega was different class found out he had a alcohol problem but while at river plate I remember thinking this guys different class but his time in Italy.. other clubs guys like forlan remember striker Sebastian rozental he was another player injuries ruined him but if you seen him play before his injury he was class Claudio Lopez.. and that's only the attacking players therer was some great defenders that went on to have great careers but all came through river plate or boca jr youth systems the amount of talent from the 90s to early 2000s world class players.. but riquelme I'm glad he got another chance at villareal to show how talented he was after his bad stint at Barcelona getting played out of position. . Those two teams gave the world so many gifted players and the Dutch league ajax psv feynoord also to many to mention.. but now kids just talk about Messi and CR7 in the 90s there were so many amazing players world class talents not just two guys head above the rest . And now var 🫣 your team scores and you don't even want to celebrate because your used to then 6min later find out the guys finger made him offside so goal chopped off 🙄 football has changed
Juan Roman Riquelme, not Juan Sebastián
@@nachoalvarez7171 thanks
I love Veron, he’s one of my favourite players off all time!
When Rangers managed to hold THAT Parma in Europe even my Celtic mates celebrated. When I saw that line-up again, I pinched myself.
A fucking great video!
Great video 🔥
brilliantly done this, bravo
McJell needs to watch this
What a video mate. Love this.
Brilliant mate well done 👏🏻
Arsenal didn't win 3-0 at Old Trafford it was 1-0. It was also the result that mathematically clinched the title.
McJelll, I summon you🫡🫡
Great as always 🎉
I loved this guy’s style of play, the modern game simply doesn’t allow for a player like this anymore.
That Parma team and kit though 🤩🤩
Good content keep it up mate
Him, scholes & xavi are proof that stats are absolute bollocks unless you are an out and out striker. Then it makes more sense
The pass BEFORE the assist 👍
Best passer of a ball I’ve ever seen
Didn't go well for him in England, though he was often MU's best player in the CL games. He was very good in Italy, but poor in his last season at Lazio, where he was a shadow of his former self.
WTF was that goal from C. Lopez :O
Imo Zizou had better movement and finishing than Veron by a fair distance...both great players but Zizou was one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots
Veron was actually good at United. Just got an injury towards the end.
Let's be honest. Veron was a good guy to have in your team but we can't just throw the title of great on every odd bloke like it's meaningless. Very good attitude? Definitely. Reads the game well? Pretty much. Very good at much else? No. Let's be honest. He did a lot but not exceptionally good at any of them, and just a tad above average at most skill task.
He’s was an incredible passer of the ball, really skilful, and great dribbling out of tight spaces. Unreal touch at times.
Give you head a wobble
English fans are consistently the worst. Just because a player didn’t do well in England doesn’t mean he’s not a great player.
Veron have the passing of
Xavi + Pirlo combined
Do you get that ?
He can run play 1-2 very good short passes
He also a master in the long passes just like Pirlo
He’s passes actually if you watched him with lazio ,parma and later inter (which you didn’t a typical EPL head) range is much much bigger than Pirlo and just as accurate
Not to mention his physical strength
And long distance strikes and free kicks
Veron was world class
It’s unfortunate people like you is the reason why he’s in the debate. Of one of the best midfielders ever which he was
Great video but didn’t Arsenal win 1-0 with that infamous wiltord goal
Have you done a video on Mo Johnston?
This is a fuck.... great video!
away goal in final is stupid, but actually in play offs it degrade the play quality imho
between 99-2001 he was the best player in the world hands down ...
i was really excited when man utd bought veron but they totally wasted him - alex ferguson tried to squeeze him into the team but veron is the sort of player who can control games-you have to build the team around him- i do not understand why they bought him-ferguson was a great manager but he made a big mistake with veron-same with tevez and berbatev, both brilliant players but they were both used as second choice players to ronaldo and rooney- he seemed to buy them just to stop other teams buying them- and diego forlan , a brilliant player, was not given enough time-they sold him and he went on to great things-
Very true
Very good post
Although In forlan case he just struggled in very good era of strikers
Forlan , berbatov , anelka , milito , Robbie keane kinda got the short end of the stick in that era (for the most part ), around that time
Nistrlerooy was unbelievable in man United
Every big team in Europe have very very talented strikers unlike today /last 15 years
We had maybe 5 good strikers in the world
The big 4 in England
Arsenal got Henry bergkamp , van persie
Man United got Ruud ,Rooney ,Ole gunner
York and Andy Cole prior to that and shringham
Chelsea got drogba ,crespo , Gudjohnsen
I’m sure they also bought kezman and mutu in one point and both of them was extremely good in their previous clubs
They even got Hasselbaink prior to that
Liverpool was lacking possibly the only big team in Europe that was lacking but they also got the chance to buy anelka and they didn’t who was another unbelievable striker
And they got Owen and Fowler prior to that
Italy
Milan shevshenko , inzaghi , tomasson ,gilardino
Inter , vieri and Adriano (Recoba as super sub)
Roma ;Montella Totti and cassano
Juve ; del piero , trezeguet and zlatan who later went to inter
No matter where you go all big teams have some of the best strikers
Forlan and anelka got to shine later in their career so a milito when he was near his 30’s
World class player
Is the Ferguson rant abot veron available on youtube?
From the telegraph, It's one of the links in the description: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/05/06/alex-ferguson-rant-manchester-united-audio-idiots/
Just sad he didn’t work out at Man Utd. Sir Alex really tried.
make a vid about alvaro recoba
ADN, ESTUDIANTES DE LA PLATA................................................... The End!!
38:28 Arsenal only won 0-1 not "3 nil".
Please do del piero mate @flashbackfootball
Yeah premiership legend ask anyone 😉
Essien next!
我唯一真正喜欢过的足球明星就是贝隆。
Riquelme ?
So basically in England he missed the peds that gave them there energy. Its no secret they were all doped up
No he wasn't.
He was a pain in the backside to Manage.
There is more to being a great Player than just being able to play Football.
Gascoigne, Best. etc. were great Players but upset the whole balance of the Team with their antics, Veron was the same and really not worth the effort, which is why Man Utd got rid of him and Chelsea got saddled with him and why he played for 13 different Clubs during his career.
Only 9 teams, and that doesn't mean nothing.
See what he did in his homeboy club, Estudiantes de La Plata.
He returned from Europe for free at 30 to the club where he was born, twice champion in Argentina, won Copa Libertadores (Equal to Champions League) Runner-up in the Fifa Club World Cup against Pep's Barca by 2 to 1 minutes before going into extra time.
He played there until he was 42 years old. He retired, became president of the club and rebuilt its stadium and the club became champions during his term after a 10-year drought.
All this with the Argentine economy and the club being a non-profit civil society (all financed with members' money) here there are no companies that own clubs or corporations or Arab sheikhs or Chinese investors.
He is not Beckenbauer but he is a legend and an idol. All this without counting his time in Europe and what he did in the Argentine national team.
And think that Estudiantes is not Boca, River or Bayern. Imagine that a German footballer achieved all that with Hamburg.
@@Covekio 13 Clubs all together, some more than once.
Only a staunch Club Estudiantes, or blinkered Argentina Supporter would ever class Veron as "f***ing great".
The truth is, he bombed wherever he went, even at Club Estudiantes he wasn't that great.
Only a staunch Club Estudiantes, or blinkered Argentina Supporter would ever class Veron as "f***ing great".
Best, Cruyff, Messi, Ronaldo, Eusebio, Beckenbauer, etc. etc., they were/are "f***ing great", Veron was mediocre at best.
If I asked a thousand people from all walks of life and from different Countries to write down their 50 best ever Players, apart from you and a couple of others, all Club Estudiantes Fans, no one would have Veron on that top 50.
In fact, I would bet with you that none, apart from that faithful few, would have him even in their top 100.
In fact they did a survey on the best ever Players and Veron came in at 125, that was in 2003.
The list of 2024, he is not even on it, which is about right.
The facts that you are giving me are a load of boring bollox.
Club World Cup?!! Apart from the Fans who have Clubs in it, who gives a flying fig about the CWC??!!
What he did with Club Estudiantes is irrelevant, that is like me spouting off as to what Ole Gunnar Solskjær did at Molde.
What did he do at Boca Juniors, Sampdoria, Parma, Lazio, Manchester United, Chelsea, Internazionale ....absolutely sod all really.
he did nothing in the Argentinian National Team, in fact he was blamed for their poor showing in the World Cup.
Ok, for Club Estudiantes, i will let you call him "f***ing great", because you are a CE Supporter, obviously and we all stand by our players, no matter how crap they might turn out to be, with the Club we Support, but not anywhere else, because he wasn't.
Veron best form ever is in lazio in my opinion...
Good player sure , but compared to otamendi he didnt bring home the world cup
That Argentina side of the Crespo and Veron era was the most stiff-legged and unimaginative of any ARG era. They will likely never be that bad again.
You are forgetting Batistuta, Ortega, Zanetti. Stop talking. You love Messi and thats fine but don't talk shite.
I think 1969 2010 2016 2017 1994 was way shittier, that era had the 2006 squad Under Jose Nestor Pekerman that was amazing and played some great football too, sadly Veron wasnt a part of that, in 2002 they just went shit I agree
A little biased to frame him as a mistreated player at United. You completed skipped analysis of his time at Chelsea by just conveniently blaming Jose, at which his time there was even worse than at United. He was basically what Pogba also was a decade later - expensive transfer and wages that weren't justified by short patches of good form, constantly needing a free role without needing to graft in defence, supported by 2 hardworking midfielders in a slower paced league. Simply an undoubtedly talented player just not good enough to play in an English club, although with far better attitude than Pogba which allowed him to enjoy a longer career.
not sure where in my video I did any of these things - framing him as mistreated or skipping analysis of his time at chelsea. He played fifteen games for them mate, I said he was an expensive failure there, and I mention he was beset with back injuries. Not sure what video you were watching
Ming
Embarassed himself in England.
Roy Keane was better than both veron and Zidane at that period
The problem at united for him was Paul scholes. He was twice the player veron was.
At his time nobody said Scholes was the level of Veron, Nedved, Zidane, Figo, or even Beckham, nowadays Premier league and England fans tries to portrait their football history as the most important and their past players as the best , which is not accurate Historically, at that time the premier league was behind Serie A and on Par with La liga and Budesliga, and Scholes was never mentioned before Veron.
@cacbdb
Absolutely on point
Just like xavi too
People wanna made you believe that Xavi was unbelievable since day 1 when he played in 1998 and he’s on zidane level or some BS
When in reality xavi flourished in 2008
Almost 10 years after his debut
Around that time he wasn’t even mentioned around some of the named you mentioned
Even deco , ronaldinho , Rui costa ,Gerrard ,was miles ahead of scholes and xavi
Early 2000’s
Now kids think Veron was average player and no where the level of xavi
Which’s just hilarious
Complete failure at utd
he was pretty average, nothing special
A terribly overrated player. One of the worst players Man Utd signed
amazing video,as ever
