I secretly harbored the hope to get married and have kids, but focused on career. Even so, I married a wonderful man who I was sure would be a fantastic father. After putting off having kids for several years, he decided he didn't ever want kids. My brother and several of my friends never wanted kids so they tried to convince me that I was much better off. In fact, there was pressure to embrace being childless. Luckily my brother married a woman who already had 3 children and he is an amazing father to them, and even more so now with the grandkids. What Matt says is right. I have always been a mother to my friends and colleagues. I've done volunteer work with schools and I am the favourite aunt to my nieces and nephews. (Yes, I considered religious life too.) But my heart is broken by not having followed my deep wish to be a real mother. Being surrounded by a culture and community of feminists is detrimental to promoting and supporting healthy and vibrant families. Some of us are childless because we didn't know better until it was too late. So your compassion is helpful in forwarding the conversation. I think some of the "cat ladies" lash out because they don't want to admit (even to themselves) the sorrow behind their situation.
This is so similar to my story. I was told motherhood and wifehood weren’t valid occupations. I am soooo glad I didn’t listen. Wife and mother of three beautiful babies and am so thankful everyday.

Disappointed no release date for Snow White or the Pendragon Cycle and no new projects or people announced. Frankly a let down since they advertised this as similar in scale to the last time they were at the Ryman. As a woman, I have probably a controversial opinion on the issue of "cat ladies" getting offended at being called out, because they _can't_ conceive. First, I grieve for every woman who can't conceive... BUT, it seems to me that the _best_ solution isn't to say "oh well" and get a bunch of pets. The _best_ solution should be to adopt, I think! There is STILL a way for every good healthy heterosexual married couple to raise good kids. I know I'll probably get my head bitten off by other women here for saying that, but I still think Ben's point stands: the best thing you could do with your life if you're married is raise a new generation of good people. No matter how you have to do that. And yes yes, I know that the adoption process is difficult, I'm not saying it's not. I'm saying at least _try_ every option you have to raise good kids. I really believe that there is perhaps NO mission more crucial to the long-term wellbeing of the world right now than conservative Christians repopulating the world with new generations of kids who know how to think for themselves and who have been raised in the ways of the Lord.
But for those of us who were single and unable, who also believe every child should have a dad, adoption is an unviable option. I am no longer single, but when I was, adoption was simply not something I felt comfortable with.

As a woman, I have probably a controversial opinion on the issue of "cat ladies" getting offended at being called out, because they _can't_ conceive. First, I grieve for every woman who can't conceive... BUT, it seems to me that the _best_ solution isn't to say "oh well" and get a bunch of pets. The _best_ solution should be to adopt, I think! There is STILL a way for every good healthy heterosexual married couple to raise good kids. I know I'll probably get my head bitten off by other women here for saying that, but I still think Ben's point stands: the best thing you could do with your life if you're married is raise a new generation of good people. No matter how you have to do that.
And yes yes, I know that the adoption process is difficult, I'm not saying it's not. I'm saying at least _try_ every option you have to raise good kids. I really believe that there is perhaps NO mission more crucial to the long-term wellbeing of the world right now than conservative Christians repopulating the world with new generations of kids who know how to think for themselves and who have been raised in the ways of the Lord.
But for those of us who were single and unable, who also believe every child should have a dad, adoption is an unviable option. I am no longer single, but when I was, adoption was simply not something I felt comfortable with.
