Excellent video with attention on the procedures and parts that us DIY'S are going to run up against. Thankyou. I've done this to my '90 SuB. .. did not do it as trouble free as this example. I will be doing again now , 8 years later. .. same rig. This time, will be smoother.
Great Video !
Thomas - This is the first how-to (video or anything) that told how to remove the metal ~1998 GM fuel line connectors from the fuel pump (with the special GM fuel line disconnectors - I'm off to the Chevy dealer in the morning). I sweated and cursed for an hour or so, then went to the computer. Some of the videos skipped disconnecting the fuel lines entirely, and then concentrated on the stuff any backyard mechanic knows how to do. This was the first one that showed all the hard stuff that is only gained by experience. You have made my life a whole lot pleasanter. Thank you! Dave
+Dave Hennessey thank you for your comment and for watching. i love when i hear that something ive done really helped someone.

Thomas - I bought the Lisle QC tool set, but they were way too thick to work - shoulda bought the other brand.
I ended up breaking off the plastic connectors on the pump. Threaded the next larger size drill bit into the plastic, pulled gently on the drill bit while using a small screwdriver to release the four spring catches in the hose connector. Release #1, #2, #3, #4 - done in seconds. Wish I could have video'd that. Dave
darn it ,you should of made on. ha if it happens to me again i will make one. your right very right. thank you. the great thing is now you too are experienced. you will never pay big bucks to do something like this again. great job.
Very helpful ,I have A 99 GMC YUKON ,with a new Engine fuel filter an thought I had a transmission issues after that. Your video helps, after 15 years with the same fuel pump that was the best money I spent . .Your talking was on point to help my trouble shooting

Yahtzee! Even though I have done this before for a Chevy van, your video before I tackle the Suburban was simply a gem. Actual real time work is priceless as it removes the guessing. The savings on this job easily pays for all new tools if a person has none with hundreds and hundreds of dollars left in the pocket. Thank you.
Edit ad: I new it was my pump after it simply stalled stalled in traffic. It would crank and seem to almost start but no go. To confirm while broke down my wife turn the key while I pounded on the tank bottom with my hand...it would start and stay running as long as I did this. Also (hind sight) it would take longer to start on cranking for months it seemed.
that is great !! the vibration of the tank by pounding is a great idea. this is a great comment, thank you for watching.
wow this is probably the only video ive been able to watch and actually understand clearly how to do it without any confusion now just gotta get a fuel pump for my 1998 gmc c1500 4.3L v6 and replace it

Thank you so much! Your videos are concise and clear enough in explanation to help us do all this on our own. I like how you don’t add extra fluff and you keep the explanation rolling at a fast enough pace that we don’t lose interest.
Really good presentation. Thanks for the tips. Emptying the tank is very important! This is one job, I was always nervous about doing but so many people have done it! My biggest concern is in working under a vehicle. I've got a friend who is small framed guy like I am who does this without even using a jack! And yeah, those lines can be tricky! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
+MrMusicDreamz
you got it, thank you for watching.
great job explaining. steady clear voice , professional yet practical.. i feel pretty confidant i can do this, wish me luck.......p.s my previous mechanic said the same about adding additives. thank you again
perfect, i know you can. please keep us posted on whatever you run into. even small info helps everyone. thanks for watching.

Great video . Even when you learn 1 trick it helps a lot . Rock auto is awesome .My nephew turned me on to it . I am getting about an average of 120 k miles on fuel pumps. I have a fleet of Gms . This is one project I have to do this weekend . Plus front brake lines on 2 other vehicles. Thanks for being thorough .

Thanks so much for the video. I was so dreading changing it or really taking it the local shop and paying them $700.00 dollars to do it. now I'm gona go for it.
Mr Brian, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to do this video, been battling back & forth whether to remove / tip the bed or drop the tank on my 93 K1500. With your way the topper & toolboxes can stay right where they're at! Thanks again!
+George Gauvreau
awesome, ty for the comment. i never pull the bed unless there is some other kind of issue. its only two straps, and most of the time all hoses and connection are long enough you dont even need to pull it all the way. thanks again for watching.
Thank you. This gives me the encouragement I need and understanding of steps required. Well done.
Thanks for taking the time to do the video. I have taken a fuel pump off my older Suburban, but I needed the details about removal. Your details were extremely helpful.
great. im happy it helped. but even more happy that you are doing it yourself. save your money and learn it yourself. ty for watching.
Thank you for posting such a detailed instructional video on this. Lots of tips which were definatly helpful!!
I believe I may need to replace my fuel pump also, thanks for showing me how. With your video I know I can do this.
thanks ! finally found a video with same fuel pump and tank... hard to find a video that had the same clip ring instead of lock ring and lock hoses which are actually a pain to get off without the ezslip on tool. like you had . Big help !
Great video for the home mechanic, it can't get any better. Thank you.
awesome thanks for watching.
Thank you for spending the time to make this video. This is going to make things a lot easier for me today.
Thanks sir. I'm gonna tackle my '99 Suburban this week. I haven't had a working fuel gauge in years. I also have a P0463 code... "Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit High Input." ...So I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump. Thanks again taking the time to make the video.
yes it will solve your issue too. thanks for watching.

thanks for the video,, I just changed mines today,, I got mines at a yunk yard for $24 bucks,,
sweet smell of success, and saving money. thanks for watching. great job!!!
hey Brian, yep it was that the kid i bought the truck from didnt put the ring back on the right way, then it turns out it was a bad fuel pump anyway on it that was supposed to be a new one i was told..so after a friend helped me put a new fuel pump on it the right way it now works and fires right up!it was very confusing at first because i thought the fuel pump on it was already new! lol! i was checking all kinds of other fuel issues also at first.
Ronnie DeLong thats great, im glad you got it figured out. its too bad you had to buy another pump, but at least now you know what you have for sure. if you did not change the fuel filter, now is a good time to do that. since you have the new pump. if the filter does not get changed then all the dirt that caused the fuel pump to go out, is in the old filter as well and will cause the new pump to build presure trying to push the fuel through a old dirty filter. so if it was not replaced i suggest you do that right away. its the differance between your pump lasting 3-4 years or 6 months. i have a video for that as well, just click my name under the title above. there like 10.00 and well worth it in the long run. thank you very much for watching and commenting. check out my ff video if you want a laugh. its the one that shows a pic of a chalkboard. thanks again.
thank you for taking time to help others great video
+donald kiefer

You're video was an awesome step by step, thank you so much! I'm good with computers but not so much with auto stuff. I think I should be able with your help though. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the help. I'm getting ready to do my 98 Chevy 3500 dually.
Richard Chubb your welcome, i hope it works out for you. thank you for watching.
Thank you for your perspicuous video. I have a 2003 Chevy express van that I have to replace the fuel pump.
you got it, thanks for watching!!
Thank you for this video! If the fuel pump is weak, will it cause you to have problems with maybe fuel draining back away from the injectors? I have to cycle my key on an off about 3 times before the vehicle will start, and thanks again. Very well done!
Thanks for the help bro, I'm trying to do it on my 2001 suburban and my garage is too small so it's hard for me to jack it up as much as I want to, and the way my fuel tank is set up is long ways so the frame is getting in the way of me trying to pull the pump out, but thx for the vid
+BrownMexican1397 oh i see, i will see if i can make you a video on that one, thanks for watching.
Thank u very much i thought it would be hard to do but piece of cake

+biblican911
and thank you for watching, and your kind comments.
You’re the man 👍🏼
good video i put the labtop under the truck and do step by step,,thanks save money..
Thanks again for your help 😃
Brian you the best.
hung phan im glad this video helped you out, thank you for your comment.
Nice presentation. I'm going to look for the filter video you mentioned. My old 99 Suburban is spitting and sputtering when I go up hills or under load. It seems like two cylinders fall out when i reach overdrive...maybe this is my problem. Thanks
+chevybrat
absolutely. less fuel, less power. thanks for watching. and thank you for the great kind comments. enjoy
With all the crud in the fuel pump filter should the tank be pulled out and cleaned to prevent clogging the new pump and causing early failure?
awesome video man..easy to follow! ,getting ready to check my problem now in a 99 tahoe ,just bought it off someone who just did thei fuel pump replacement, but the problem is that gas ias just pouring out from it somewhere when u go to fill?? any idea where its leaking that bad on fill up? my guess is the ring around pupm or the big fill hose??thanks
Ronnie DeLong boy i guess it just matters about where, it is common for people not to get that top ring on right. but you would be full i would think for it to be pouring out. check the fill neck tube as well. good luck. let me know the outcome.
Thanks Mr
Good video I changed mine about 10 yrs ago I ran a ac delco like the ome now
I'm going to replace the fuel pump again . Just wondering do you still run the same truck and did the after market pump hold up?
I love you man.
Thank you so much.
Awsome video.

thank you very helpful installing a pump on a 99 burb and yes rock auto is great
great video most helpful great instruction good job.
amazingly informative video. thank you very much
you got it, thanks for watching!
Great video very informative and detailed
Ed O thank you for your comment, and for watching.
Very helpful. Thanks for your time and sharing. Is the fuel pressure sensor also on the assemble you purchased or separate?
Man I changed mine and followed color to color 3 months later I'm down again the fat black wire melted!? I'm like confused man lol anyways if you can please share any possible issues?
If the lines are rusted also and need to be replaced what connectors do you use? And also can you replace the rear line with just nylon instead of nylon and steel? Can't find a video on that especially ones with the old connectors they already have the nylon and doesn't show how to connect it to the steel line.
Thanks,helped a ton.
MrShawn773 your very welcome and thank you for watching and commenting
i think im having the same problem with my 99 gmc it feels like the tranny is shuttering when it hits overdrive but it also feels like its not getting fuel like a miss great video! thanks i think ill replace the pump since my gass gauge dont work anymore also!
***** a bad pump can make it feel like a shifting problem, for sure..
Just changed out the filter which i think was the original! 180k on the truck, seems to be fine now, probably going to change the pump anyway because the gauge dont work and i checked rock auto 80 bucks! Might as well!
+fishbone856 awesome. thanks for the update. thank you for your comment and for watching. if you know of anyone that
can benefit from watching this video can you click share and share it
with them. i am trying a little experiment with sharing. again thank you
for all your support. i will keep you posted on how its working. thanks
again.
I just changed my fuel pump on a 1998 Chevrolet k1500 has the same fuel line connections. Used the plastic quick disconnect tool would not recommend plastic ones use the metal ones. Just like you I got frustrated with the plastic one and broke off the plastic line at the pump. My plastic ones did not seem to open up the quick connect far enough to get the line off. Played hell getting the remainder of that pump out of the quick disconnect. This is an FYI.
thanks man. great video.. learned alot
I got the same stalling issue. took it to a dealership they still can't figure it out. I'm going to try a pump. thanks a lot
+qposton25
you got it, sounds like the same issue. thanks for watching. enjoy
Thanks for the video! I appreciate you being thorough. I’m looking on rock auto.com and also Amazon. There are fuel pump assemblies anywhere from $39 and up. I’m nervous about buying something that won’t last very long. Do you recommend a specific brand that is fairly inexpensive?
thank so much. Do you know what those hoses are on top of the tank? There are two coming off the tank directly (not the pump) and then they go to a T joint and then the go to another hose headed toward the front of the vehicle. What are those? Do you need them?
oh, yes you do need them. they are for the return lines. they allow air flow and vacumn to go back and forth. if you do not connect them then you truck can vapor lock . especially in warmer weather.
the info is perfect we must had same teachers wished I could have video for my students in the day good Job Bro JD
have a new problem now on the 99 chevy tahoe 4 door 5.7 vortec...only getting one brake light on driverside..no tail lights at all and no lights working at all on passengerside in rear !headlights work great! but ...bulbs and fuses are good! i tested the circut board by switching tail light to the other tail light for a min and the left side worked so guess its a bad circut board on leftside, have to go get the part now but not sure if these will fix the no tail light issue yet?but when i did the swithing tail light test the blinker and brake light came on when i was getting nothing at all on rightside ,also the 3rd brake light is out to??hopefully the new circut boards will fix this?
Great video just have a question I have a 2001 tahoe 5.3 the connections that you have ( the one that broke on you) are all the chevy the same or will some be different where they need to be pinched together then pulled? ALSO I seen the locking ring from other chevy a bit different than yours I like the way you replaced yours without haveing to take the tank out completely .thanks again hope to hear back from you. Great job again !!!
Victor j yes they are the same, your right. some lock rings are different but they work the same way. thanks for your comments and ty for watching. if you click on my name under the video ( thomas brian ) you can view all my chevy videos. i have a humor one too you might like. thanks again.
thomas brianHave i told YOU HOW , how Awesome you ARE!!!
Damn good video!! Thanks for creating!!
Followed your video got the pump replaced.but now the engine sputters and spits black smoke, why?
How do you set the o rings and spacers in the line behind the clips
Thank you for the video!
actually your yakin as you would say is pretty informative & i really enjoyed watching your video cause no matter how different it is there's always something different to bring to the table great stuff , my float doesn't work so i don't know how much gas i got on my grumann is it pretty much the same for all gas tanks ??
mario d.c yes they are, most of the time they just stick a little. mainly because of fuel additive to the tank. ( the gauge will show fuel, but wont move). in which case just clean the rod so it moves freely. sometimes the float itself will get a hole in it and fill with fuel, it will remain down ( empty tank then would show at all times). in this case you would need to remove it and either replace it, or i dry it well and take a zippo to it ( out of the vehical ofcourse) and melt the plastic back together then put it in a pot of water to make sure it floats. then reasemble. i hope this helps and thank you for watching, and thank you for your comments.
thanks great tip
I have a leak on top of my gas tank where the lines go into tank can i get to it from inside
thanks that was very helpfull
Ramui Mathews your very welcome and thank you for watching and commenting
Now that you've had that pump in for a few months, how's it holding up? Just curious since it was so cheap how your long term review on it would be. This doesn't look like a job one would want to repeat every few months.
James West its working great the wife is in it as we speak. thank you for the comment.
Thanks, super helpful.
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing
Can you get to the pump from under the carpet?
Awesome.....thank you !!!
thanks for watching
