    Hi guys. Lived on a boat here in the UK for almost 23 yrs now. One of the greatest pleasures is anchoring in a creek or river in the evening, watching the sun go down with a rum, and listening to the different bird calls coming from the reeds and riverbanks as everything settles down for a quiet night with the possibility of owls later. Unfortunately, this is something you guys are going to miss. Those are industrial machines that you are working with, generally, and they're doing industrial grade damage to your hearing while you're at it. Believe it or not, the noise you can hear isn't that much of a problem, it's the high frequencies that you can't hear that do the real damage. Do yourselves a favour, hearing protection is the first thing to sort out before you get to sharpening the tools, putting sandpaper on the sander or even sorting the evening beer out. Lovely teamwork, and extremely generous of Charlie to lend his time, his workshop and his knowledge/experience to give you a tremendous push to the finish line.

    Charlie has a gift, or should I say gifts, not the least of which is generosity. He clearly understands that "it is in giving that we receive..." It's been said that the meaning in life is finding your gifts; the purpose in life is giving them away. Charlie has nailed it! And so have you Ruth!

    Ruth.. I have no words to describe the beauty and the feeling of warmth that you bring to this channel, is not only your physical beauty; it's your internal light, the light of your soul, your constant beautiful SMILE, and the feeling that you are the woman that ANY man will wish to have at their side, intelligent and hard working a REAL partner in life, working side by side with her man, in his life project.
    That is the magic of your channel.! that keeps us coming again and again just to see it one more time and dream about our own lives and think about.. what if...
    You are the life and soul of this channel, otherwise will be just another channel of men doing boring things. as many youtube channels.
    Love your inner light, we can see the bottom of your soul through those beautiful deep blue eyes always with your radiant smile. We love you, we love what you represent. Thank you for being like you are.
    A word for Garret; after seen so many empty, shallow and even stupid women, through my whole life and several ruined love stories, and divorces..., pain and deception; that still bring tears to my eyes. a wasted life.
    I can tell you: you are one of the luckiest guys on earth, for having such a wonderful woman in your life, always love and respect her, she is worth all the gold in the world, NEVER; EVER do anything foolish that may push her away. She is the perfect soul for your family, the mother of your kids... the perfect partner for your old days.
    Love you guys

Being kind is the number one thing even when you're upset, angry, or scared. It means a lot to hear our love shines through our episodes. So happy to bring a little light :)

    As a woodworker myself I love watching the older guys work. They have much cooler looking tools than the boring stuff that is all nice and symmetrical that are manufactured these days. And you know where not to stick your fingers. That drill press is really cool! They have a different philosophy about creating something and you can feel it in their actions. It screams passion. I see that in you guys as well! Never loose your passion!

    If the Lanyards for the Deadeyes is layed rope, the correct Stopper knot is a Double Matthew Walker. Quite easy to tie. Clamp the rope in a jig with a hole slightly smaller than the dia. of the rope then unlay the strands, form a cloverleaf with the ends of the strands passing through the next loop. Then double and snug tight, Whip the layed up end and trim.

    Held my breath while Garret was grinding the dead eye’s, eye reliefs. Don’t slip, don’t slip was screaming in my head with all of that sweat equity invested and then the last sketchy task. Thank God that’s over. Can’t wait to see them rigged. Ruth in a skirt, is that a first for the channel? Lol. You kids are doing great and that was a very sincere thank-you as well.

      @garyfairbrother5532 4 года назад

      I actually was referring to the last step where Garret hand held the mini grinder and ground out the line channel for the eye holes in the dead eyes. Those high speed bits can catch grain or follow grain on their own and damage the work piece ...or worse. As a woodworker the other woodworking practices were very safely handled I thought. Charlie is not a rookie and Garrets getting more safety minded as time goes on.

    loved this, great projects, and make no mistake this is a great project of EPIC proportions, will always attract great people. the same is true of Acorn to Arabella, that wonderful German girl in Panama, that pair in Brazil with their steel boat, and of course Leo Goolden, and Tally Ho, and yes I have left out some, they're not forgotten, Garrett is an old style craftsman, Ruth is unbeliveable, a girlie girl who is neither afraid of hard work, or getting dirty, the future is yours!

    Black Locust is prized firewood because it burns hot like coal. Fence posts made from Locust would last 100 years in the ground but fence companies would only guarantee them 50 years because no one would believe they were good for 100 years. It's fantastic wood that doesn't rot and bugs won't eat it. I wonder how it compares with Live Oak?

    Concerned about the direction of grain in relation to hole orientation ... The direction of force is perpendicular to the direction of grain - there's a higher risk of those deadeyes falling apart. Unelss I've missed something about the type of wood used?

    • @andrewdevenish9904
      @andrewdevenish9904 4 года назад

      EyeOnTheTV the dead eye design with the support around the perimeter puts the wood that takes the load in compression. The orientation as used is therefore correct for the loading it sees and the dead eye will be very strong. If the load was tension it would be a different case as you note.

    Can't really say I'm a fan of that router technique, seems like the pressure to hold it firm against the jig would put your fingers/hand at risk if there was a slip or a catch on something. I would have put put it back on the lathe, although I can understand that would be time consuming and should have been done originally when the base work was done.

    Great to see you all working like ever so done before!
    These dead -eyes are masterpieces!
    Hope to see them doing their thing in the rig soon!
    A little tip, put'm in hot oil to make'm more water resistant!
    One more thing (more a question;)
    There's a board hanging in Charlie's shop, saying ''HUMBUG“.
    Is Charlie's origin German?
    This is some kind of northern German speech, meaning
    “Nonsens“.
    I was really surprised reading it in a Californian woodworking shop!😉😁😁😁😁
