You are both doing fantastic work. Giving Ruth total control of the interior was perfect. You get almost twice as much work done, and never forget. Happy wife happy life.
We have tile on our kitchen counters. We HATE it. The grout between the tiles allows water to seep through. Please consider something like silestone, quartz, granite, corian, etc., and make sure that your sink is compatible, seal-wise, with your chosen surface.
I've grown to like the baby blue as the episode went on. Try something else but if you left it that way I'd be happy with it. Really love all the colors so far and yes the red hull is super nice ..
Swab gets his camera time. Awesome!! Those of us that know and love dogs, know Swab is getting slower and older. Therefore, more love goes to Swab while we can enjoy her. Looking great guys... colors are fine. You will know every sharp corner everywhere when under sail, and the need for handholds too. Proactive energy sooner than later. Thanks guys SWAB too!!!!
Hey Ruth and Garret :) It IS your home however small and cluttered it might be during construction. Love the fcat that garret is willing to let go and Ruth is willing to step up. Keep up the great work! Hang in there steady but surely she is coming together.
I cannot praise this video enough, not long ago this beautiful boat was just a pile of trees, between craftsmanship and artistry the trees have been fashioned into a thing of beauty as much as they were in their previous existence, it is humbling and heart warming.
As a 20 years plus remodeler-I can tell you that I have torn out more tiled countertops than any other-the grout-even if sealed will turn into a problem, good luck
Ruth and Garrett you guy are doing a hell of a build on your vessel.. Ruth is awesome on camera and im sure she does most of the editing. Garrett you are one hell of a Master Carpenter my man ! I see that a few others have suggested knocking the corners off the half bulkheads . That would be a smart thing to do . I've a fare amount of boat Carpenter. I suggest putting a radius the size of a 8in. Dinner plate and also in the same radius a hand grab on both bulkheads... Please give it some thought as i know you will. Im waiting patiently for that first shake down cruise. Love you guys and God's speed !!! AHOY !!!
You know that shot at dusk in your intro (0:50) where Garrett is leaning into the boat over the rails, the exterior cabin-top sides look pink because of the ambient light, its a beautiful color. You might consider using that there or as an accent somewhere else. Great videos, thanks!
It’s wonderful to have a beautiful wife who is a fantastic painter. Everything is coming together. People say that when you get the hull done, that’s only a quarter of the job- much longer to do the interior and fit out. You guys are doing it. Great job❤️🙂
I think the boards that come down the wall that Garrett cut off would look so much more attractive and less of a chance that you get banged into if you would either round them over or cut them on a angle so that they taper to nothing at the bottom of the over hang. Just a suggestion.
Yes, yes. Garrett is finally cutting those vertical stiffeners but he did not cut the angles I have been seeing all along. Hopefully he will put those 30° or 45° suggested below. Please, please.
suggestion: tile on the backsplash and mini bulkhead too, and carry the ceiling slats on to that big blue then green full bulkhead, maybe alternating bands of vertical slats with paint. can always be removed.
Additional suggestion: flexible grout. Thus boat will flex under normal use. Standard grout will end up cracking and letting tile loosen much more quickly than on a stationary wall of a land built home. (If not available in boat building material supply stores, check RV material sources).
The boat looks great. Making multiple disparate colors work with each other can be difficult. There is a little trick that works pretty well. You have the cream and the charcoal that make a nice contrast. When you add a third color, it has to work with the first two, so you add a very (and I mean very) small amount of the two original colors to the third, and they will somehow look right together. When we paint a white ceiling in room with a colored wall, we always add a (very) small amount of the wall color to the white and the colors work perfectly together.
Of course the dark colors are a bit overpowering , but you will have decorations , portholes, equipment, switch panels , repeater compass , or whatever to break it up and the contrast will be so interesting too. I think I might have not put the paneling behind the countertop . I like to see the hull and frames! But they may be some gaps to fill but the ventilation for the wood is good too. Maybe just a high fiddle at the back? But what every is quickest that get you sailing first! Cheers Warren
Those vertical square timber pieces that go up the face of the wall in which the portholes are fixed might look rather nice with a 45° chamfer on the bottom edge facing inwards. It would also make them hand and head friendly just in case you lurched into them while stooped over.
Hello, I looked at your 99 videos in two days and I think it is incredible what they achieved they leave me speechless and I can only congratulate them for what they achieved with their boat and all the effort they made. ''CONGRATULATIONS''
You two are wonderful .... inspiring, in fact .... huge congratulations on your chemistry and your adventures - and on sharing your boat life so beautifully. 👍🏼🎉👏🏽⛵️❣️
Love the new paint, didn't mind the blue but love the green. Garrett it is more than time that the last port was finished, you need to complete jobs, it's far more time efficient. Ruth you continue to impress with the quality of your video editing keep up the great work and Stay Safe.
I admire your work and lifestyle on the boat. Everyone should have a Ruth and Garrett in their life somehow to show how it can be done. Keep it up both of you 😃
My standing rule...what discussions my wife make within our 4 walls (whatever it might be, is hers...period!!) regarding colors etc...is hers to make!! if she is happy, I am also happy!!
Painting pro tip: Cut in the edges with a brush first and then use the roller. You will have better results. When you get good with the brush - you wont need the blue tape as much. Flater finishes open the area - high sheen makes the area more intense and feel smaller. Interior designers say use finishes in 3's - bring in the hull color into the interior....
Rock on guys!! boat is definitely looking awesome. been watching for little over a year and looking forward towards the future adventures. I'm a contractor in Utah and my dream is to do what you guys are with the family I've made. 👍
The first color on that amid bulkhead was the better of the two in my opinion, but I have no taste sooo... LoL. I'm liking the complimentary color of the speed clamp holding the flowers in the corner though! 😎
So I woke up yesterday at 4:30am and immediately got all excited that it was Salt & Tar day. I put on coffee and went to the bathroom then settled into my recliner ready to watch the next episode. Yesterday was WEDNESDAY! At that point I wasn't feeling very smart so I decided to play Solitaire and drink my coffee. Things obviously went much better today...go figure. Awesome video today guys! Like you said, not every week is going to be monumental progress but every week IS progress. I love seeing that both of you but so much pride and love into what you are doing. It will reward you later when you are out in the middle of an ocean, look at the counter or the portholes and think, "Yeah, I did that!" I am already looking forward to next Thursday. I'm so looking forward to seeing the counter, the last of the portholes and the Mizzen going up. It's all getting close and it will be done before you know it. Have a wonderful week you guys. Be safe and stay healthy!
Strong work on the cabin interior! A personal preference for sure, but I would minimize gloss finishes down below. At night there will be considerable reflection from interior cabin / berth lights -- perhaps a matte or satin finish? Same colors, which look very nice, but just an overcoat with a flatter finish. Even the vanished wood in the cabin will look better with a satin finish (topsides the gloss is great). Also, the tiles will add a real accent to your galley; however, on horizontal surfaces they might be too slippery in a seaway and are not very forgiving should you drop any glass / ceramic cups, mugs, plates, and so forth. As noted, these are just personal notions -- she's your boat! Continued good luck with the build.
Given the time delay, I am probably to late, but I highly recommend cork for your countertops. Comes in a lot of colors, things don't slide around on them, and things don't break when they hit it (or just fall over).
I have to agree with the others the bulks heads need softer corners perhaps a bull nose trim with a large radius. Ruth you are doing a great job, I look forward to Tuesday evenings and updates on the project! Swab you are the life of the party. Garret your hair is getting out of control again 🤣. I still think one of those bulk heads deserves a Desert Scene. 😁🛫
As an old Navy man, and the previous owner of an open water sailing sloop, I appreciate the use of nautical terms, for example, bulkhead, deck, stern, etc... I would expect as much from a couple who are remaining true to organic boating as you are. p.r.morehouse (author)
You might consider rounding off the sharp corners on the counter bulkheads. Also the bottom projections at port and starboard walls. Would really hurt to run into those in rough seas. Tile joints on a countertop are going to be really hard to keep clean. Ruth you have good color sense.
In case you aren't totally set on tile yet. One issues I've had with tile in the kitchen (sticks-n-bricks home) is keeping the grout clean, especially if you like to make bread or other food on the counter. Another concern I'd have on a boat is if you have any glass (including Corell) is it is easy to break things on tile. Just a couple thoughts. I'm sure whatever you do will be beautiful.
Ruthie, the interior is looking more homely. Garrett, you're mastering the art of delegation. I thought you would've done an impersonation of the legendary Sir David Attenborough.
Painting looks great!!! Ruth, get some "Universal" tints.... green, raw umber(brown), Lamp Black, etc.... add some green if you like(experiment)... if you end end with a color you like... make a small sample and paint store can figure out a formula, for future re-paints... again, looks really nice!!!
Swab is such a good dog
Go Ruth!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice colours Ruth.
Great job Ruth,cosy and homely
If you left it up to most guys, it would probably stay bare plywood. Looks great Ruth.
It saves Garrett work and besides that, Ruth is good at it.
I can't believe how good Ruth is, you tell her once and Boom, she's got it
Love the color you ended up with! So wonderful to see a wooden boats don't have to be dark inside.
You are both doing fantastic work. Giving Ruth total control of the interior was perfect. You get almost twice as much work done, and never forget. Happy wife happy life.
Ruth is doing a great job ! let it go ,,
Wow the dark bulkheads make the cabin look much longer nice!
I could watch Ruth paint all day!
We have tile on our kitchen counters. We HATE it. The grout between the tiles allows water to seep through. Please consider something like silestone, quartz, granite, corian, etc., and make sure that your sink is compatible, seal-wise, with your chosen surface.
nice progress. your a good story teller Ruth. thanks for sharing your journey
I've grown to like the baby blue as the episode went on. Try something else but if you left it that way I'd be happy with it. Really love all the colors so far and yes the red hull is super nice ..
The colors of the saloon look good and it opens it up a lot. It will be nice to see the mizzen stepped. More room on deck.
That Dog is a living Saint...LOL....
Nice! Good job, Ruth!
What a family. You are on the top of the world.
Ruth has so much positive energy ✌
Nice large sink in the galley. Worth it to build your own boat just to have a big sink. Barely able to fit my elbows in the one on our cruiser.
Ruth 😁❤️🌻❤️ Well done! Standing by your man! You are one amazing woman. It take courage to keep running.
I like that blue it opens the space up with a brightness
Swab gets his camera time. Awesome!! Those of us that know and love dogs, know Swab is getting slower and older. Therefore, more love goes to Swab while we can enjoy her. Looking great guys... colors are fine. You will know every sharp corner everywhere when under sail, and the need for handholds too. Proactive energy sooner than later. Thanks guys SWAB too!!!!

Garath is Aqua-man. Ruth you are one lucky girl.
Port lights are fantastic almost as pretty as Ruth!
I agree with Swab. Better to sub contract and supervise.
The boat is Looking GREAT…Love your paint colors, for the cabin ❗️ Good Job, Love your videos !
Playing House is fun!
I cant wait to see her set sail
Hello Ruth,
If you wish your tile counter to last you will require an 1 1/2" plywood base. Or it will crack apart slowly.
Thanks,
Bruce
Yes I wanted to say that also!
Flexable grout will help, to a point, but yeah a thicker top is important to the longevity of a tile countertop too.
Tiles last forever but your fixation method may not :)
I love that you guys are real!!
Ruth and Garrett you guy are doing a hell of a build on your vessel..
Ruth is awesome on camera and im sure she does most of the editing.
Garrett you are one hell of a Master Carpenter my man !
I see that a few others have suggested knocking the corners off the half bulkheads .

Im waiting patiently for that first shake down cruise.
Love you guys and God's speed !!!
AHOY !!!
Interior is really coming along! Looking more comfortable and larger as you say. A proper floating palace for Swab! :D
My God so kind of you to give Ruth an input into the project
You know that shot at dusk in your intro (0:50) where Garrett is leaning into the boat over the rails, the exterior cabin-top sides look pink because of the ambient light, its a beautiful color. You might consider using that there or as an accent somewhere else.

luv watching u kid's .
You may want to paint a matte clear coat over the flat dark color to keep it fresh looking
Big step forward must say
I think the boards that come down the wall that Garrett cut off would look so much more attractive and less of a chance that you get banged into if you would either round them over or cut them on a angle so that they taper to nothing at the bottom of the over hang. Just a suggestion.
Great idea.
Yeah, I was thinking a 30° or 45° angle at the bottom myself, but it's their boat. I don't care for those sharp corners tossing about at sea either.
Yep, looks like way too many sharp corners in general. Plus no handholds.
Yes, yes. Garrett is finally cutting those vertical stiffeners but he did not cut the angles I have been seeing all along. Hopefully he will put those 30° or 45° suggested below. Please, please.
That flat black panel next to your stove should absorb cooking grease quite well.
The colors looks right on Miss Ruth. You have a great hand for painting
suggestion: tile on the backsplash and mini bulkhead too, and carry the ceiling slats on to that big blue then green full bulkhead, maybe alternating bands of vertical slats with paint. can always be removed.
Additional suggestion: flexible grout. Thus boat will flex under normal use. Standard grout will end up cracking and letting tile loosen much more quickly than on a stationary wall of a land built home.

Rounded corners on the half bulkheads

Suggestion in galley 45 the square uprights to avoid the square corners, as to not get yourself hung up while working on countertop
I love this boat.
Of course the dark colors are a bit overpowering , but you will have decorations , portholes, equipment, switch panels , repeater compass , or whatever to break it up and the contrast will be so interesting too.

LOL...Swab's doing big things.... that cracked me up :)
I like the wall... its bright

ruths working on the big visible things. i like
Hey Swab. Thinking all those doggy thoughts is a lot of work. Take all the time you need.
It does look bigger inside. You guys just keep on moving. Love it.
Wow! The inside is looking so nice. Love your channel. And aussie accents! Hilarious!
Any colours you choose Ruth, will be magnificent... Charcoal does look like infinity...
You two are wonderful .... inspiring, in fact .... huge congratulations on your chemistry and your adventures - and on sharing your boat life so beautifully. 👍🏼🎉👏🏽⛵️❣️

Saves me work,I’m all for it.look at Swab he has it figured out
Every thing is looking so great, like a home now with the colors.Loved the out take, so funny.
Let it go!!! Because a woman's touch whilst making a nest is almost always a welcomed addition 😉. Almost! Ha
In this case...on point!
Been watching a long time, soooo.... envious! Godspeed.🙂👍

Ruthi to Ruth - I LOVE the blue! Keep trying... you have the eye for it!
hi the boat is looking very good
Can’t wait for your 100th episode! Congratulations in advance!
Use plastic bags for the paint this way you can cut a small hole in one corner and squeeze out any paint you didn't use and clean up is fast
I have to agree with the others the bulks heads need softer corners perhaps a bull nose trim with a large radius. Ruth you are doing a great job, I look forward to Tuesday evenings and updates on the project! Swab you are the life of the party. Garret your hair is getting out of control again 🤣.

HOORAY and congrats on all you've both been achieving so far!!!
Ruth done good !! The final colour looks great...
As an old Navy man, and the previous owner of an open water sailing sloop, I appreciate the use of nautical terms, for example, bulkhead, deck, stern, etc... I would expect as much from a couple who are remaining true to organic boating as you are. p.r.morehouse (author)
What fun! Lovely!
Nice job, Ruthy. I did'nt like the baby blue either. Too much like a day care for kiddies. Your second choice is a lot better. Good job !
He did a great thing giving you the inside. Looks great, great color to match great tiles with Mexican theme. Love the videos.
since the out side of the boat is red you should bring some red into the interior. It ties the outside and inside together.Just a thought.
You might consider rounding off the sharp corners on the counter bulkheads. Also the bottom projections at port and starboard walls. Would really hurt to run into those in rough seas.
Tile joints on a countertop are going to be really hard to keep clean.
Ruth you have good color sense.
Pecan green with beige wouldn’t look bad either either way the boat looks great on the inside you to make a lovely couple

that mess under the sink was not a mess, that was organized chaos, everything has a place and nothings in it ;)
Got to be real man . Ruthies a gem , one in a million I figure
Ruthie, the interior is looking more homely. Garrett, you're mastering the art of delegation. I thought you would've done an impersonation of the legendary Sir David Attenborough.

I don't even know you, yet I am proud of you and so happy for your love and dedication.
Nice job 👍
