Thing is, our presumption was that by imbuing Illidan with light, she would purge all the Gel, cut his connection to it and restore his body to a pre-Fel time. It's not like he gets fel and light. Rather one replaces the other.

Maybe think this way, in fantasy games like some famous TTRpgs as Dungeons & Dragons, warlocks are sorcerers who draws powers from powerful sources beyond the mortal world, pacts magicans that borrows power from say a powerfull beign. So say a Lightforged Draenei makes a pact with a Naruu - the Draenei been gifted with a small portion of the power the naruu posses but in return subjegate or slay evil creatures such as demon or void creatures.

It's about relgious conviction. The Void is the power-opposite to the Light, and effectively any LF'ed using the Void would be considered heresy - We CAN use LF'ed shadow priests ONLY due to mechanics. A LF'ed using FEL MAGIC on the other side is several times worse - literally using the corrupting power that destroyed the majority of their whole species, the very power they fought against for so long.
Any LF'ed using Fel, any Draenei using Fel, any of them being Man'ari for that matter, would be an automatic kill-on-sight order from any and all authorities.
Not that WoW RP'ers would care, we are going to have LOADS of these snow-flakes about when this goes live...

@@tereninsecundus6084 By this logic, warlock should not be playable by ANY race, period. That's why this take is so laughable. Why do you think only LF and Draenei would feel that way? Haven't you noticed that all the warlock NPCs have always been hidden away in basements and sewers, or otherwise off to the side by themselves? "That would be heresy!" OK, and? It's *always* been heresy regardless of the race. That's the point.

    • @tereninsecundus6084
      @tereninsecundus6084 Год назад

@@Sharkofspace I know all that perfectly well, and the trops that Warlocks are BUILT on is the desire for power, even darker, evil risky power, in beings perfectly 'corruptible' by such means and such interest.
That kind of desire did not avoid the Draenei, that's how 2/3 of the species turned to become daemons in the first place, and...
The remaining 1/3 created WHOLE CULTURAL ENFORCEMENT MEANS and MADE THE PURPOSE OF THEIR EXISTENCE THE DESTRUCTION OF THAT CORRUPTIVE POWER TO BEGIN WITH.
Humans, elves, Dwarves, Gnomes etc etc. all turning to Fel to get power is nothing new or anything to scoff at, their interactions with the Legion is documented after all, just like the Draenei. What sets the once-natives-of-Argus ASIDE however is the whole-scale devotion AGAINST it from that point onwards. The Lightforged even went so far as to REBUILD THEIR BODIES into weaponized forms devoted to their new, choosen power.
That's why A Lightforged Warlock is such an absolutely absurd, idiotic choice. You make up petty, worthless excuses for why all of that effort and dedication and pure hard-core principled stance that DEFINE them and their history is to be cast aside by whoever feels that inclined.
There should always be limitations based on lore and history, some things that some simply don't do or things they insist on doing. A LF'ed Paladin is 100% to be expected and natural. A Gnomish Warlock is also to be expected. A Gnomish Paladin can easily happen, nothing in lore stops that, but a LF'ed Warlock has significant and meaningful weight behind why it should not happen.
If we take that away we undermine the value of the setting even more. We water down the whole aesthetic of the setting, world, plot, all of it, and for what? One more option for the player to pick in character creator?
It's already absurd enough we would have red-skinned Man'ari PALADINS in the Alliance once that customization is released, and becoming Warlocks is simply to add a class fitting to that customization. A LF'ed Paladin is fitting. A Man'ari Warlock fits too, just not in the Alliance, as if they would ever tolerate that. A LF'ed Warlock fits just as little as a Man'ari Paladin does.
And yet we are going to get both of those absurdities in the Alliance because... well, I guess nothing matters anymore, really. What's Tyralion's opinion on Man'ari and LF'ed Warlocks in the ranks going to be?
Likely just a damn shrug, it's not like a man that became the first Human to be Lightforged, who fought the Legion for thousands of years along all these other people, and is right now the head of the Alliance, is going to have a single thing to say about his closest troops turning to Fel use or letting his sworn enemies join his ranks. Naah, no military leader has EVER been opposed to that, have they?
This is a cheap move on Blizz's side made from a cynical 'more options no matter the cost' viewpoint, and you are fine with this, TOURIST, because you have never given a fuck about the integrity of the setting to the thing you are playing. Why would you? Head empty. No thoughts worth mentioning, it seems.

But Margrave might've also said that out of pride and bigotry, not acknowledging the fact that the sort of necromancy the force of Death deals in, entails reanimating people as the Undead, whereas resurrection through the Light or Nature actually brings back not just the soul but the body entire as well, mending it from decomposition.
Unless Blizz is playing fast and loose with the definition of necromancy here, Margrave is a figure in the SL who we're probably never ever going to meet again in the story of WoW. What he says does not necessarily apply to the universe like he himself believes.

In older lore Fel and Void were almost interchangeable, both representing "darkness" as opposed to the Light. Death is in the same boat, necromancy being almost exclusively associated with the Fel-originated Scourge up until the druidic version of Death in Battle for Azeroth, and everything about Shadowlands (that also retcons the origin of the Scourge's magic).
The 2016 Chronicle even says the Twisting Nether dimension is something like a merger of Light and Void, where it "bleeds together at the edges". However, many things about the Chronicle have already been re-retconned, so... lol
So this is all pretty new stuff, that still doesn't mesh perfectly with established lore - and 25 000 years of in-universe history of Light and Fel. So there is actually a LOT to suggest they shouldn't be able to co-exist, but it COULD be solved for the sake of their ambition of bringing more classes to more races. All that remains to see is if it's solved in a satisfactory way, and I sadly don't think it will be.

It's the Eredun word for Broken, the corrupted draenei subrace of Akama and Nobundo.
As a faction they've been around since Warcraft 3, which is about four year before the draenei we can play as were introduced.
They also make much more sense as Alliance rogues, shamans and warlocks than anything blizzard has released so far.
It's likely they were intended to be the original look of playable draenei but were scrapped in favor of their prettier brethren. I guarantee that they'd have more of a playerbase than mechagnomes, though.

I see all the fight about the lighforged wielding fel magic. Now lets see what classes lighforged can be
Paladin - OK, no worries light wielder.
Mage - arcane comes from titans, that are different that the light, and fire/frost that is elemental magic, coming from the elemental planes, but no worries here too.
Priest - light and shadow. Shadow magic in a lighforged? Jesus, nvm must be one experimenting, not the whole LF society.
Death knight - so a light empowered being can use death magic. "but it's after it died" some may say, good, clever point.
Now let's sum this up - a Lighforged Draenei can wield arcane, elemental, light, shadow, death magic. What is left? Fel and nature. Now ppl are arguing about the usage of fel magic, in 1-2 expansions noone will argue about the usage of nature magic by the same race, mark my words 😅

There is a difference between gameplay and lore. The fact you need to have this explained to you after two decades of WoW is shocking. There are LF Shadow Priests for the same reason there are Undead Holy Priests - so that your Undead or LF Priest is actually a playable Priest. ALL UD Priests are Shadow aligned in the lore with Alonsus Faol being the only exception and ALL LF Priests are Holy aligned. No exceptions because X'era would kill anything void touched that isn't Alleria in a heartbeat - she almost killed Alleria too. Fel is even more hated by the Army of the Light. All of those combinations are being introduced for solely gameplay reasons. There is zero lore supporting it.

Player characters aren't exemplars of their race. There is nothing stopping a Lightforged (who has endured eons of trauma under the Light and saw Xe'ra forcibly convert Illidan) from studying darker magics. I mean, if Xe'ra did it to Illidan, who's to say she didn't do it to other beings? Perhaps not all Lightforged went through the trials. And while the trials do allow for one to overcome certain emotions, we have seen with the Sha that these emotions can come back.
Cultures aren't monoliths. Lightforged can be warlocks and it's fine.
