    Brandon,
Thanks for adding this to your channel. I was having the same issues with my 2002 F-350, when I watched your video I decided to replace the IDM before anything else, after installing the new part my truck fired up on the first try. Thanks again, you saved me a lot of time and money!

My 7.3 has the symptoms you mentioned in the video. I replaced my icp sensor, glow plugs, relay and block heater. And its still sluggish to start and wont start at all in cold weather. I appreciate the video and now i know it has to be that module.

There are so many things on a diesel that need to work correctly in order to start.
When you have a new truck, then it is likely to be caused by one item.
The older the vehicle is, the more likely that there are many things, that contribute to a poor start.
    Example:
Old PCM and ICM relays, low battery voltage, corroded battery terminals, poor starter solenoid, starter cable connector/terminal, starter condition/age, glow plugs/relay.
    Cold weather:
air intake heater coil/relay, exhaust back pressure valve, fuel bowel heater, block heater(if equipped)
Also, motor oil level, fuel, an original IPR or a bad CPS can cause a no start.
You don’t need a functioning ICP sensor or a fuel pump (if primed) to start.

I am doing the same thing..I have the 99 7.3 changed everything..just spent 400 on batteries and I still had the click.. but It's been hard cranking slow to crank.. and yes I have 350,000 on her..changed everything.. new AC completely, new IPR, ICP, fuel bowl heater, oil change, new glow plug solenoids, new vacuum lines, you name it.. it's new..hell the starters Only a year old...so I ordered a new one but think it's just the solenoid on the passenger side front fender well.. test that tomorrow before I remove the old starter and install the new one..on mine the computer under the console would fill up with water and short (a fail from the factory) that problem was resolved but I haven't replaced the unit you're referring to now..and I am going to..so thank you for the heads up.. I have owned my since it was new also and she's been damn good to me so I am trying desperately to keep her. And yes 21 years she's has more that served me well if I break down the cost if I had to pay payments..

Having a proper scanner will help greatly on determining if the injector driver is faulty. Look up the pids too see if it is giving enough juice for the injectors. It really saves a lot of time and head ache . The shitty obd tools are useless and a waste of money. So if you know a mechanic with a proper scanner do not cry around about the price he or she charges for the diag as these tools are expensive and need constant updates. Paying someone around 200 bucks for a prop scan will save you tons of time and grief.

My 7.3 was the male connect for the ipr a $17 dollar part after spending $300 on fuel pump, new ipr and valve cover gaskets. It was causing same symptoms but it will run fine when cold.
My advice is do the wiggle test on sensors to begin with, that would of save me a ton of money and about a week of time.

I think you were getting icp, ipr, recommendations, it’s because you start small, idm removal, and refurb isn’t huge, but if easier the icp and ipr sensors. Now, just like your pos/neg cables, if you never changed the icp or ipr, now you know you’ve done it..hope you did the best you could to waterproof the idm area..

HEY Great video I have a 2001 f350 like you and it died a year ago so ive been driving my 02 mustang GT.Im disabled so money is tight.Ive put the new valve cover gaskets and new wires to it,new icp and new wires and ipr and new wires ,cam shaft sensor, new fuel filter ,rebuilt my HPOP cause the o-rings were leaking oil, Then watched your video and bought the rebuilt idm and got it running. But it had no power at all and the check engine light would come on as i started driving it. Still hard to start problems. Then i put a new fuel pump in thinking it was that but (no) still no power.I went to store in my town and it quit running on the way back and now its DEAD again.I think maybe I have a leak in o-rings in 1 or 2 of the injectors maybe thats why hard start.so i bought a kit and new glow plugs while im in there for 3rd time.My question now is to you.Do you think the ecu has anything to do with no power? When it died the check engine light stays on all the time now and will only start with a lil startin fluid. somehow it wont let the fuel threw it.I love the truck and not giving up on it..Thanks keep your videos rolling sorry for long reply but hopefully this will help someone else. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OR ANYBODY ELSE PLEASE. THANKS Jeff.....

Is there a way to test this to see if it's bad before just replacing it? Or is it an almost guarantee that it will need to be replaced on a 250k+ mile engine?

Why does my 2002 7.3l glow plug relay stay energized on all 4 terminals with the key OFF ?

Because you're relay is fried and stuck in the closed position. Change your relay

2002 7.3 power stroke very hard to start even when I put starting fluid.. when it starts up it begins to die.. even when I cycle it a few times...I will appreciate some good feedback..oh when it was running it would run about 5 miles and it would die..it did that quite a bit and now just won't start.

This is more than Likely what I'm about to replace. I have changed the IPR I have changed the ICP I have changed the CPS and both valve covers and harness's was going to rebuild injectors until I discovered someone else already did it in the past seals were still good. Throws no codes. I'm gonna do what he did and replace my IDM but if that doesn't fix it I think it'll be time to sell it. My only other suspect could be my HPOP but it seems to get good pressure according to the gauge I hooked up 3000-3500 and up.

Does a failing IDM make it difficult to start every time or does the truck need to sit a while before it is difficult to start again?

2000 151k miles. DRAGGING to the point it seems like batteries are dying. load tester says batteries are good. Same when i put a charger on it. Today it felt as if the batteries were almost dead
Put the jump on it and it still dragged. Then it started. ?? thank you for any info. Same problem as yours?? thank you again

thanks , we have a 99 with 180,000miles was sitting and hard starting , warmed it up after it took a long time to start cold , lots of smoke at first , then drove it ten miles and shut it off and was really hard to start again ? not 100 percent on the miles , liked the video
