Reading French books is a wonderful way to improve your comprehension and expand your vocabulary. If you want to go beyond French translations of English books, so you can learn more about French culture and read like a Francophone, I’ve got some recommendations for you!
In today’s lesson, I’ll introduce you to some of my favorite books that I read in 2021. I’ll tell you what you can expect to learn from each book and what level of French I recommend if you’d like to read it. Which one will you be cozying up with this holiday season?

I always enjoy Geraldine’s videos, but I especially appreciated this one and plan to dive into these wonderful suggestions. My New Year’s resolution is to read more in French.

Thank you Geraldine, I've just bought Changer l'eau des fleurs. Your recommendations are usually tip top, I've saved loads of money asking for a carafe of water not bottle and no longer have the curious look as I ask for cafe crème and not cafe au lait! I really appreciate and enjoy your tutos. Also it's encouraging that when you make little English errors you just keep going and that's a great thing to copy, keeping the flow is so important, communication is what we are all trying to do😁

Wow I love books I'm going to see if I can find these at my library So that I can go through them To get a feel for which ones will be easy enough for me to read And if the book has a movie made of it (the book) I think that's even better !
Geraldine: I'm so sorry not to yet be writing in French. I loved your book selections. I'm not ready to read the in French but have ordered several in English. I would love to see a list of books you'd recommend to someone 10-12 years old, my level of French. :-)
J'adore lire et je trouve toutes ces recommandations intéressantes! Souvent les profs de français ne parlent que des livres classiques....

Bonjour Geraldine, je suis fiére à dire j'ai fin le livre Changer l'eau des fleurs! J'ai apprécié tres beaucoup et je croissance ma confiance à communication le deux parler et ecrire. Tu es souvent un point de discussion avec mon mari parce on trouve ton petit tuto trés utile depuis on déménage ici de angleterre.j'ai commence un deuxieme livre Mémé dans les orties par Aurélie VALONGES.

I’m still new at learning French but these books all sounds amazing! I don’t think i will be able to wait until learn more. I want to read them all now. I love to read. Too bad this book review is only once a year. I wish it was once a month. 🥰

Cette vidéo était formidable. Merci beaucoup. J'aime beaucoup le genre de livres que vous aimez Je vais chercher "Changer l'eau..." mais ce n'est pas facile. J'habite en Israël et la vieille je voulais acheter livres français électroniques sur internet des libraires françaises mais ce n'était pas possible.

These books are written for francophone so it's hard to give a level. I'd say you can try "L'aube sera grandiose".
Can you recommend simple French books like Agatha ?

Mes amis français aux Etats-Unis commandent via la Fnac ou Cultura. Les frais de ports sont assez bas, surtout quand on commande beaucoup de livres.

Bonjour Path, it's hard to say. Maybe A2 is a bit too young to read those. It depends on how interesting the story seems to you.

Quoi? Pas d'Asterix? Quand j'étais jeune, je l'ai acheté en Français et Anglais. Après avoir lu la version Française, j'ai confirmé ma compréhension avec la version Anglaise.
i want to read Trois jours et une vie, it sounds fascinating, but i don't know enough French to be able to read a book. :(
You can buy books in french that contain the sound clip that you can down load that comes with the book, that also provides a written explanation in english opposite the french word or sentence..

@@Commeunefrancaise l was mostly referring to books exclusively written in french with the option of these soundclips that are narrated in french as well. That are learner friendly, and are spoken at different speeds in french which are a crucial instrumental tool for learners of the french language.. Je n'ai lu que "Pars vite, reviens tard" il y a très longtemps alors je n'ai pas d'avis sur Fred Vargas. Si tu veux la lire, fonce Cathy !
J’enseigne le français avancé à des adultes aux Texas et elles adorent Fred Vargas. Ma belle-sœur qui habite en France m’a parlé du site Lireka qui envoie des livres français partout dans le monde sans frais de port. Donc maintenant nous pouvons commander nos polars de Vargas sans passer par Amazon.

Je lis en ce moment un livre d'Annie Ernaux: 'Une Femme'. Avec moins de 100 pages, ce n'est pas vraiment une corvée concernant le nombre de pages, mais le sujet est assez lourd . Selon le texte au verso elle n'a qu'une thème dans ses livres; donc si j'en lis un, je les aurai tous lu, non ?
Ce livre 'Réflexions...etc d'Horvilleur, est tiré du titre du livre de Sartre: Reflexions sur la question juive . Pour une recommandation, je proposerais: L'arme invisible de la Françafrique. Une histoire du franc CFA par Fanny Pigeaud
et Ndongo Samba Sylla. Cela devrait ouvrir de nombreux yeux français sur la réalité économique de la France et son néo-colonialisme africain.

Désolé Géraldine, j’aime tes vidéos mais aucun de ces livres ne m’intéresse. Je préfère lire les traductions d’auteurs d’Anglosphère comme John Le Carré, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum et Frederick Forsyth. Je trouve que la littérature française contemporaine est trop morbide, manque d’action et trop centrée sur les émotions personnelles.
