At school in the 70s we learned to run everything in, except "et". I guess the teachers felt it was easier that way. So it's interesting for me to learn the exceptions. Merçi!

I learned French as a very small child and then later as a young adult, almost exclusively by ear; it's so interesting to hear these things broken down into detail, things I'd never analyzed before. By the way, what about the liaison (or lack thereof) between 'chez' and 'Arthur'? When 'chez' is before 'elle/elles', there is a liaison, n'est ce pas?

I confused once 'un chat qui dort' for un Jackie d'or... Damn liaisons.

Love this channel so much. I live in Shanghai at the moment, and I'm wanting to retrain myself to speak French and came across your channel. Hopefully next year I can move to Europe to work and live. Even though I'm British, I'm more than determined to live in Europe and possibly France.

Apart from a handful of very common collocations the 'rules' are random in spoken French, even by region. I listened to a radio programme where they went around asking people to read out sentences and people either did or didn't make liaisons. Giving various reasons for it: pas natural, pas courant, démodé. One even explained the rule of liaison then did the opposite! So you hear both 'pas_arriver' and 'pas arriver'; des_histoires_interessants' and 'des_histoires interessants'. Even differences between 'trop_occupé' and 'trop occupé. Lots of people here online claim this or that is 'standard' or required, but there are loads of contradictory examples.

My high school French classes must have prepared me well, 50 years ago,. All of the liaisons felt natural to me. The only problems I have are knowing which words are aspirated Hs and not. I always want to say "les_heros" in Tous les cris les S O S

If my coveted life that is continuously monitored for what encourages it most, to improve advantage among they who find the encouragements of others to be what gives the most substantial compelling to them, could be free of thinking of the word soft each time I receive a RUclips recommendation from this beautiful woman of the French community, it would be truly wonderful for me and those who can’t now stop thinking of the word soft.
I take no part in connections to lavender in this regards.
May God bless you and your linguistic attempts 🤡

Hi Geraldine. It always seemed to me that French hates the glottal stop. Liaison between two words that would otherwise produce one is the solution.

In the sentence "Elles ont embarqué dans un avion..." you didn't mark the liaison between "dans" and "un".
