- We are leaving the van behind and heading to an adorable island off the coast of Brazil. The pets are packed up and we are ready for a vacation.

Guys, this is incredible! About 27 or 28 years ago I went to Paranagua where a client of the company that I worked for was finishing the construction of an oil rig. We actually were taken on a tour of the island. It looks the same as all those years ago. We actually slept in a hotel in Curitiba while there. I can’t believe it. All those years ago! I told you in my previous comment that you would enjoy this area and everything south of there.

@@the.vandersons We lived in the PNW for 5 years before we started VanLife we traveled on many ferries to many islands. We also love the Outer Banks of North Carolina. No islands outside the US except for a few in the Caribbean.

What a great place. I started following you and am enjoying a lot.
Don't worry about the communication because as you guys speak spanish it will not be so hard to speak to brazilians since most brazilians understand spanish.
But be aware that some people do not like when you approach them and simply speak spanish 'cause this may sound offensive. So, as you approch a brazilian say something like "sorry, I don't speak portuguese, do you understand spanish?". You can say that in spanish or in portuguese, which is "desculpe, não falo português, entende espanhol?"
Usually brazilians talk to hispanics in 'portunhol', which is a mix of portuguese and spanish words and it works well.

@@the.vandersons It looks like you are an adventurous lot. So much the better! I have been to Brazil twice. I call it "The most fragrant rose with the sharpest thorns". This means that you can have the time of your life there but you can also get killed at any moment because it is a very dangerous place. You must keep your eyes open and your wits about you at all times. I have been to a few of those islands where there are no cars. Arraial da Ajuda and Morro de São Paolo were two such places. This was a long time ago so things no doubt have changed a lot since then.
Don't drink too much cachaça. That stuff is potent!
Travelling with your animals cannot be easy.

We definitely agree that it's important to be cautious while traveling, but we're also excited to explore all the amazing things this country has to offer. We haven't tried cachaça yet, but we'll keep your warning in mind!
And yes, traveling with our furry friends can have its challenges, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Sombrita and Graham love joining us on hikes and bike rides, and they're always up for a new adventure.

Some places are more expensive than others, but overall we've found it to be quite affordable. We always try to live within our means and prioritize experiences over material possessions. @@the.vandersons it's on the World best nude beaches book. I make sure to be able to enjoy freedom on beaches in countries i choose to visit but no, i never been to Brazil. The way I travel with my homemade scooter with all my luggages exposed, Brazil scare me too much. After being attack by two shit with a machete under my neck in Venezuela, I'm more careful about security. SEAsia is great, even Myanmar and Central America is fine too. That's enough playground for me. All of what I'm looking for in travels is there. I know what I enjoy and don't and I lost by so, the desire for new frontiers.

@@the.vandersons Thank you. For the moment, amazing is something of the past. I got spoiled with one year and a half in Nicaragua because of covid. It was one of the few countries standing up against worldwide panic and stupidity and it was paradise. I will just go back and enjoy until paradise bored me! You don't really know but it really pleasant to stay at one spot and starting to know people and where is the best beach, the best deal for accomodations and food etc... Moving all the time is fun too but I lost purpose for going back to this kind of travel. Need to have a goal. The only one I have now is to escape Quebec winter to the best place for me that I found within all my travels. What happened in Venezuela was a special adventure and a lesson that still is serving me when traveling. Venezuela is a good memory anyway. People were extra before I got attack and they were after also. But still, i prefer to avoid repeating the experience. It's like para motor.I flew many years without major incident. I'm not anymore. I had the experience and agreement and it's time to stop.Happy travels.
