For me I’m okay with it still being wet in the morning because my hair air drys in about 2 hours after plopping overnight as opposed to 5 or 6 hours without plopping. It makes my mornings a lot easier! But if it is humid out I’d recommend diffusing before leaving the house for about 5 to 10 mins to make sure you don’t look like a fluff ball.
Karolyn Garcia yeah this is particular why I like it as well! It definitely isn’t going to get my hair dry. But it definitely preserves my hair so I can go to bed and wake up and finish air drying! 🙌🏾♥️
I love wearing wash n gos but hate going to bed with wet hair!! I always wonder how some youtubers do wash n gos at night then in the morning they curls be dry and flawless somebody lyin 😂lol
I can relate. I only have time to do my hair at night and can't be traveling everywhere with wet hair. And air drying takes 25 years. Something I've discovered from multiple natural RUclipsrs is that while your adding water and product to ur hair, squeeze ur hair. I've figured out that when u leave all that water and product in it takes 10x more time to dry. And also keeping all that water in can sometime prevent the product from really penetrating while it's being blocked by water. I'm low porosity too and I've learned that squeezing ur hair while applying product gets out the excess product and water. When I do this my hair will dry quicker cause I'm not holding onto the excess that one section doesn't need. Then once I squeeze that out I take my other wet section and apply that excess to a naked section. Then squeeze it in to release excess water and maybe product too. This will allow the dry time to happen twice as fast. And also gives your hair more movement and makes ur hair "airy". Just a little something I've noticed.
Sometimes even when you don't think you are giving insight, you are. You totally debunked for me how to sleep in wet hair. Even though it may not be dry by morning, it still solves how I can save time in the morning by doing my wash and go at night and sleep in it. So thank you! You stopped the video right on time lol!
Plopping always works for me but I don't twist my hair up. I literally "plop" my hair into a t-shirt, wrap the bottom of the T-shirt around the nape of my neck, then bring the sleeves up and tie them in front. Also, my hair is usually soaking wet (I apply my leave in in the shower). I try to use a thicker t-shirt so my pillow doesn't get wet, or I'll sometimes lay another t-shirt down on my pillow. It's probably 80% dry when I wake up but I spray the misshapen sections with water anyway so they will fall like I want them. Works every time!
I’ve tried it and it worked, but my hair is shorter than yours. It does seem to be thicker though. What I did was scrunch my hair with a microfiber. I scrunched all over to get most of the water out. Then I used a fresh towel to sleep in. I think the secret is to scrunch out most of the water first, plop overnight. Just a thought
It seems like any time I go to bed with wet hair, I wake up with a major headache. Maybe I will try either a t-shirt or microfiber towel instead of just a bonnet and see if that makes a difference. Thanx for the information cousin! ❤️
lol i never knew this was a particular method. i just always did this because i do my hair at night all the time lol i just take a big ol T shirt and wrap it like a turban and sleep. love it.
I use a microfiber towel like a turbie Twist you can get those at the Dollar Tree now days and i am not heavy-handed on the products I use this method and it allowed my hair to be semi-dry not totally dry by the morning. I have high porosity awkward length stage hair that's 4a/4b
I love plopping!!! Sometimes I wash and go the night before because I'm not waking up 2 hours earlier in the morning... So with soaking wet hair I cannot pineapple cause it will mess up my curls and I can't sleep on them... (Flat hair in the morning) my hair is also fine. But plopping helps maintain my curls overnight. I don't do it to dry my hair.
I use this method on my 4a fine low-porosity hair and it works for me, but never is it 100% dry in the AM. But it is dry enough for me to hit it right quick with the diffuser and/or hit my roots with the nozzle attachment and go! I have found that using the t-shirt side of a Wrapperoo works better than a t-shirt for me, but when my hair is SOAKING wet (which I don't really recommend), I have used one t-shirt for 30 minutes or so to get the bulk of the water off, then put on a fresh t-shirt to dry overnight. I also have better success when my I haven't used a ton of product.
I've tried it for the last time today on my fine high porosity 3b hair and it worked finally. I made sure to flop directly on top of my head and let the towel soak up the excess moisture for like 20-ish minutes. It works well if you do this in the morning while doing your makeup or something
Thank you so much for this! I've avoided wash and gos at night because if I don't get it 100% dry before I go to bed I wake up looking crazy. I'm gonna try this next time!
Tried this once for almost 7hrs and my hair was still WET WET! Not kinda wet. Not damp. But, WET WET Cousin! AND I used a DevaCurl microfiber towel. I can't say I was surprised, because like yours, my hair is also Low-po. When I wash my hair at night I just pineapple it and put 2 bonnets on. And that microfiber towel that work for plopping on my pillow.
I've actually never seen plopping done like this so this is new to me. I usually see the method where you lay the t-shirt on a bed/chair with the sleeves facing you and you gather all your hair and place it in the lower half of the shirt, then put the bottom of the shirt over the back of your head and use the sleeves to tie it over the back. That was probably confusing lol but it's easier with visuals
IrisFlowers13 This is what I see as plopping as well. I do it when I want to get dressed/do my makeup with wet hair. What amber is doing is close but I saw another youtuber shaking her head back and forth and calling that plopping!
I do my wash n go at night. Mostly Friday night. I do let it air dry as long as I’m up and I put it in a high pineapple and go to sleep. In the morning it is about 90% dry. By the time I leave the house in the morning it is dry. Your hair is beautiful!
I’d recommend a microfiber towel that you can tie in place. The T-shirt just doesn’t work for overnight cause once your shirt absorbs the water till it’s wet it won’t dry cause you’re laying on it. when I did it with a towel my hair was like 80% dry which i can’t complain about because without it I’d still have soaking wet hair
CurlyTaylor the first time that I mentioned I tried it a few years ago... it was with one of those “turby twister” microfiber towels. 😩 I think it’s just not technically meant for kinky lo-po hair. But that’s ok! Because I still found a way to work with it! Thank you! ♥️ I may get the “official” Deva Curl towel and try it again!
I just stopped trying to sleep On wash n go’s because My Hair isn’t really long enough to do most of the preservation tactics that I know about. My hair is thick, it is coarse ... it just doesn’t work 😂
I recently binge watch videos on plopping and came to the conclusion that Black folks must not do this because NO videos with naturals were in my search. I am glad this came through my notifications, so I can pass with confidence on this one
im okay with it still bein wet afterwards so thats cool, i jus didnt want my curls to be all flat and messy you know? so thank you so much for this video😂♥️♥️♥️
I get more body when I plop with out twisting it all together. I flip my head over and lower my head on the the t-shirt by letting the curls fold down like an accordion then tie up the t-shirt. the curls are very spirally by the next morning
I've never heard of the plopping method but I've always used a old t-shirt to dry my hair. I never liked using a towel cuz it never stayed on. Lol. But the first time I used a shirt by chance I never went back to a towel. My hair holds water so whenever I wanted you get my dried faster I gently squeezed my hair in the shirt. So I would flop my hair over and twist my hair in the shirt gently squeezing it and just tuck it under in the back. And then just pat it all around. Sometimes I would gently squeeze my hair in the shirt before I wrapped it. My hair always come out more stretched and defined. 😉
I'm high porosity so plopping is convenient when I have to wash my hair later in the evening. My hair is dense so I never expect it to be completely dry (my roots take forever to dry lol) but once I take the microfiber towel off, it only takes about 30 mins for my hair to finish drying
Thanks for this video! Will definitely try I never thought it would be dry I think it takes out the excess product and preserves your curls so you can dry the next day. Did your scalp itch at all? I get itchy scalp if I sleep on wet hair.
Thanks for the video. I do this when I’m coming home from being on-call from the hospital and I just drop to sleep 😴. I use the turbie twist towel and my hair is damp the next day but it cuts my dry time to 2 hrs when it was 5 hrs.
I tried this last month when my blow dryer broke. I had a microfiber towel so I plopped and went to bed. To my surprise my hair was about 85% dry in the morning. However, I did it a week later and it didn’t seem like it dried at all 🤷🏽♀️
I've never heard of plopping but I def think I will try this. Its worth a try because my pillows hate me lolol. Thanks for sharing, cousin! You are always hipping me to new concepts.
I do this method all the time but it never dries in the morning. At all 😂😂 I just do it because if I do my hair during the week I can sleep comfortably at night and not worry about getting sick bc my head is wet.
yeah this method doesn’t work for me either, but no matter what my hair gets all squished in the morning anyways 🤷🏽♀️ it never falls right. Your hair looks so defined and pretty though! I think you should keep trying it maybe a microfiber towel will work better. For me they’re more absorbent.
Tee Tee J it’s definitely an option for some! For me personally though, when I do things like it it’s either because I’m tired and don’t have that extra time or I don’t want to use heat, period. ❤️
I need to try this cause I hate having a wet pillow! I'm also low porosity so I usually don't have a dry wash n go by bedtime, either way. My hair is type 4 and very dense but I will definitely try this on my next wash day!
I plop every time I wash because it gives me great clumping but I didn’t know it was supposed to help it dry because mine never dries in less than 5 hours when out
For me I have to use a T-shirt to kinda squeeze the excess product from my hair then plop with a second T-shirt. I didn't wake up with completely dry hair but it did turn out more dry than normal in the morning
Hey cousin! I feel like it’s bc of the porosity. I would be like wth they did for their hair to dry so fast or what’s wrong with me that air drying takes me literally days. 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️thanks and always and I would be willing to try knowing my hair won’t be matted to my head and shrunk looking crazy. 💙
Not some online forum thinking they invented this 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I liked your video though, sorry it didn't get you the results you wanted. Edit: I watched the Mahogany Curls video, she used a special towel, the devatowel. I don't think anyone's going to get the same results without using what she used. when I tried this method, I plopped for 1hr, diffused my roots, then plopped again for another 30min and it was almost completely dry.. dry enough for me to go out lol🤷🏽♀️
I don't know how this method will work for my awkward length stage tho. Im so used to doing morning wash and gos (literal wash and go) and my hair is finally dry at the end of the day doing it at night is kinda iffy
Finally Amber No, it’s not. I live in Louisiana. I have the little small heaters you put under your desk at work. Walmart still sale them. To each their own 🤷🏽♀️

Patricia Gomez I only do my wash and gos with gel! So you may have a point! But in that case, this method would be pointless for me in particular because it wouldn’t cater to how i like to wear my hair. 😕❤️
I've tried this method before to be able to dry my hair faster but, it didn't work. I believe it has to do with hair porosity. With low porosity hair, it might not work. But, Ì think it can be a nice trick to use when I do my wash and go at night.
beau knows88 lol well idk! 🤷🏾♀️ You never know until you try, love. If you don’t want to, that’s perfectly understandable! As you can see, my hair wasn’t. So that’s why I wanted to go ahead and show this as an option. But a little frizz never hurt anyone! 😉❤️
Finally Amber i can feel your vibe has changed!! Being content and living in your own lane is showing!! More ppl should try it!! You are just everything and im loving the consistent uploads even w/ your transition!!
Hey cousin, I have looked at this Eggo waffle commercial the woman in it looks like you. I keep checking, I'm looked at it a few times, she looks like you, is that you ?

THANK YOU! I’m saying. You redid your hair and came back into the camera. Hell nah. Straight lies.
I air dry for two hours then put my bonnet on in the morning I'm dry
😆😆😆

I use this method all the time but the same day. I have high porosity hair. It’s my best friend! And only method I usually use.
I tried this method too and it didn’t work for me. But my curls were still popping and wet the next morning. Lol.
Nattie B exactly! So it’s still a plus for me lol

sevenaka7 nope. no itchies! At least no more than I get any other time I air dry in the day time. ♥️

Notification squad ❤️I NEED THIS VIDEO 😭
LOLArie #FirstCousins! ❤️
Okay cuzo I see you ! Love love love them morning results ! Lord have mercy 😩❤️
I tried this last month when my blow dryer broke. I had a microfiber towel so I plopped and went to bed. To my surprise my hair was about 85% dry in the morning. However, I did it a week later and it didn’t seem like it dried at all 🤷🏽♀️
crishart724 That could be due to the weather
1st cousins gang!!! Still a helpful video cause sleeping on a wet wash and go is challenging
Omgosh I thought I was the only one! I thought there might've been another natural somewhere besides her who got that method to work 😂
yeah this method doesn’t work for me either, but no matter what my hair gets all squished in the morning anyways 🤷🏽♀️ it never falls right. Your hair looks so defined and pretty though! I think you should keep trying it maybe a microfiber towel will work better. For me they’re more absorbent.
GREYS ANATOMY!!! Will do!
I have never tried to plopping method. But if it will save me on my drying time.....I'm all for it cuz.
I'd recommend diffusing until it isn't soaking wet then plop
I was thinking about doing this method and I tend to twist my curl one by one and oh my god does it take awhile so thanks for sharing your results
I do this when i do my wash and gos at night. Its never dry which is ok. But my curls look the same and i can air dry while at work.
The way my shrinkage is set up, I don’t see a wash n go in my near future lol, but u go girl! ❤️
Naija Roots thanks ❤️
I do the plopping method but I plop it a different way, but I think I’m going to try your wY
What about maybe sitting under the dryer on cool or low heat for a hour or so with the tshirt or microfiber clothe
Amber you are too comical! LOL!!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hunny yessss! I needed this🙌🏽
I'm new here and I'm loved every video, I already did this method, but with my hair is thin and short, it was glued to the head and without curls😂😂
Carolina Sabino I definitely can see this happening.
That’s crazy... I started watching this video exactly at 12:45am ✌🏾
I thought plopping was something totally different, thanks for teaching me something new! I am definitely doing this my next wash day
Sometimes it's the tools not the method.
I do it on product free hair and it drys in lesd than an hour then I put product on lightly
I'm 3b/3c and this gives me beautiful curls and usually 70% dry in 30 minutes. Maybe better for those of us with longer hair? Idk
when I tried this method, I plopped for 1hr, diffused my roots, then plopped again for another 30min and it was almost completely dry.. dry enough for me to go out lol🤷🏽♀️
Robyn Hannah yeah I feel that, I’m just really trying for a method where I don’t HAVE to put heat on my hair, ya know? Even if it’s cool heat. ♥️
Finally Amber I totally understand! I only use it when I’m really pressed for time and can’t wear wet hair, which is rare lol
Notification gang gang💁🙌💃🤗👌😘
I’m going to try this!
I don't know how this method will work for my awkward length stage tho. Im so used to doing morning wash and gos (literal wash and go) and my hair is finally dry at the end of the day doing it at night is kinda iffy
Naptural85 uses this method to add volume to her wash n go
I use a lot of gel in my hair and my curls flattened down completely and didn't fall.
Staci-Ann Lawson hate to hear that ❤️
Have you tried alikay naturals gel and styling lotion? (not he curling creme- it has a humectant-unless you like that?)
I haven't yet. It's on my list tho!
I wonder if you have the air conditioner on & place a floor heater on your night stand towards you, would it aid your hair to dry faster? 🤔💭
Jay Wat chile I live in Palm Springs and moving to LA. Floor heaters are the thing of my past! 😩😅😂♥️
Finally Amber No, it’s not. I live in Louisiana. I have the little small heaters you put under your desk at work. Walmart still sale them. To each their own 🤷🏽♀️
Louisiana = Humidity. Palm Springs/Los Angeles = Dry Heat, No "winters" and LOWS of 108 on a daily. What I'm saying is... I would never have a need to buy one lol And yes, to each their own. 🙂❤️
Finally Amber true dat 👍🏾
She reads minds ong
I think if you don't use gel it should be 100% dry in the morning
Patricia Gomez I only do my wash and gos with gel! So you may have a point! But in that case, this method would be pointless for me in particular because it wouldn’t cater to how i like to wear my hair. 😕❤️
That is very true, but it doesn't go past what you said it all depends on the hair porosity and density x
I need this video frfr
I've tried this method before to be able to dry my hair faster but, it didn't work. I believe it has to do with hair porosity. With low porosity hair, it might not work. But, Ì think it can be a nice trick to use when I do my wash and go at night.
H E Y S H A A Y I agree! I’m low porosity as well and it’s not going to dry my hair, but it’s a good night trick! ♥️
Have you had any issues with your hair with moving? I have moved recently from down south lol and my hair like is being weird if that makes sense.
Kingkoilyfro 91 nope. No issues so far and it’s almost been a month. But I’ll keep you guys updated ♥️
Whyyyy was I just like “hmmm I wonder if amber has an overnight method for drying wet hair?” 🤣
I tried it too after watching her and it didn’t work for me either!!!
What’s you’re hair texture?
🌻
1st cousin btw💁🏾♀️
Whelp now I know it doesn’t not work only for me either. 🙄
