Hey Guys!! Here's how I preserve my Wash and Go overnight on my type 4 natural hair! This is the only way I've been able to successfully "pineapple" my type 4 curls so that they don't get too stretched out of shape! I hope it helps! Xo! Nap 💗
Naptural85 hey Naptural85! Thanks for the video! my question is what if the hair isn't as long as your hairlength? how does the pineapple would come out as loose as your loose pineapple? I know that you don't short hair....but do you an idea? could recommend something for those who have short hair? thanks in advance! Villemonde!
I do something very similar. First I use the scrunchy to gather my curls and tie my scarf, then I remove the scrunchy. It's kind of the same thing you're doing, but it helps me not to tie curls up in the knot of the scarf which was a big problem for me.
Villemonde Zamor hi I have short hair and I find that putting my hair into 3-5 small pineapples. That way the middle and the back aren't too stretched.
Okay Nap. Please stop calling yourself lazy. You are a free lance graphic designer, wife and mother of two while being a full time RUclipsr. You have a FULL plate. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise lady. Have a great night!!
Thank you so much for sharing this... I needed it so badly. You’re a lovely, fantabulously fun-loving wife and mother, amazingly gifted, creative, generous, kind - all that and then some, but never lazy! Girl, you inspire me every time ... you give me life! Total resus! Love you and your family so much... Hugs for all of you too.👏🏾😍🙌🏾💕💃🏾💐🤗🤗🤗
Sheyenne McGhee Yessssss!!!! With a naturalista rocking her big ass fro on it👍I have 4b/4c hair and I've just realized thanks to Whitney, that my hair texture always gives a LOT of attitude and very little length loool 😂
I feel that texture plays more of a role. Silky and thread textures seem to be able to pineapple easier (think Mahogany Curls and Sun Kissed Alba) while wiry, cottony, and spongy hairs tend to stay where you put it. I just wear a slap cap and keep my hair in a downward position. And then I spray with water in the morning or wash.
I always thought i was cottony but once i pineapple my hair i wake up with my curls stretched/frizzed to the point it looks blow dried. If i slap on a cap it mattes up and still looses all the definition so i gave up
No matter what I do, the next day my hair is......NOT the business!!! But this is still my favorite natural channel because of the detailed instructions and benefits she gives in videos. Thanks gurl!!!
After being natural for four years (but relying on a lot of tight ponytail/puffs and twist outs), you rediscovering your wash and go has helped me finally figure out how to do my hair (same hair type). Which is so needed right now, as I have been really depressed over my hair thinning from birth control and likely tight puffs. Thank you, Whitney.
RUclips must really know me, because I always get your notifications SUPER fast. 😂 Tbh I've never been about that Pineapple life, because my hair doesn't look right after doing it. Like you, my hair is always overstretched in the back. But I think I'll give this a try at some point!
I too always have some curl fugitives that escape my bun, ponytails, twist outs etc. They always manage to get away no matter how hard I try! lol Thanks for sharing! Regular pineapples NEVER really worked for me either!
This is exactly how I do my hair & it allows my wash n go to last longer. It also helps to eliminate the gel cast as the days go by but it must be a silk scarf.
I just love watching you and your hair. Your videos are always super informative and empowering. Makes me feel like I can do almost anything with my hair and have it look fantastic. But most importantly, you have such an aura of positivity around you. You embody the essence of happiness and satisfaction in being who you are. And it is amazing to watch that in every episode. I wish all youtubers would learn that from you. Thank you so much for all your amazing videos and taking time out to show us all you have learned on your natural hair journey. As we say in Swahili, asante sana !
it is so clear your hair is trained. I need to teach my hair to behave. I wish my hair would just shake and shape like that. beautiful as always Whitney.
This is a game changer! I've been pineapple-ing for years and although I got the weird straight pieces, i thought it was because I had heat damaged my hair. I didn't realise the power of the stretch. Thank you!
My hair is really short (too short to pineapple with a scrunchie), so this is actually how I've been preserving my twist outs for quite a while. So glad you discovered this, too!!
I can't wait for my hair to get longer but I'm gonna try this method tonight and see if it works for my shorter hair. Love you, lovely natural sissies!
PERCECT! Thanks Naps. Was watching your first big chop video the other day, before there ever existed an Oya and you were styling a twa lol. 2 big chops, colour damage and a baby later, you are still as cool today as you always have been! love You girl!
I have 4c hair mostly that dries out when I sleep in it at night if I don’t braid or twist it out. I did a wash n go and tried this method last night and omg it worked! Just had to spritz it with water in the morning. So thank you!
Your hair is lush and beautiful. Mine has a tendency to be stiff and dry. No way I can shake, fluff, and go. My hair is usually flat on one side every morning.
I know this video is old, but THANK YOUUUUU. I. have been struggling with finding a way to preserve my wash and gos and I came across this video and tried the pineapple method last night and IT WORKED!!!!
I do 3 pineapples 1 on front and 2 on the sides. That loose scarf would be on the floor under the bed somewhere. I wear pantyhose or my hair would smell stale in the am.
Motherhood suites you. You are very beautiful and your hair is on point. I truly love your videos and love your personality. Blessings to you and your lovely family.
I've always done my hair this way. I understood early on that bands would put an instant dent in my hair. But I solely do twist outs and when I have my lazy days and don't want to retwist, this is my go to!
Nice! Very nice! I had stop with the crunggies,my hair kept getting stuck in them. I was doing something almost like this some times, other times I just 2 strand twist and pin around my head. I'll try this. Your just glowing so beautifully. Looking fabulous Whitney! God bless!
You've answered my prayers! I have a mix of textures ranging from 3b to 4a and regular pineapples always stretch out the back of my hair and when I take it down my hair tends to just stay clumped up back there it's so annoying. Gonna get a huge scarf and try this asap!
I was thinking I was doing it wrong because whenever I did it my curls had creases and stretched to much. I'm glad you revealed this cayse other RUclipsrs did some kind of magic om camera.
The traditional pineapple doesn't work for me either. I use the tube scarf and it has changed the game for me!! The take down is FABULOUSLY easy. I just take it off and my hair falls right into place and my WnGs now last a full 10 days!! I wish I'd known about them years ago. Great video Wit. Love you!!
I have a similar hair type and my wash n go's are really shrunken so I just put my large bonnet over it and fluff it in the morning. I like frizz though, and that will definitely happen if you're fluffing.
lindy marks I do a few mini pineapples-one for the crown, one closer to the name , one for the front, and a couple for the sides. Wrap it in a scarf of bonnet, fluff she finger comb a little in the morning, & go. I may look 4 years old everynight but it works.
Yaaaassss girl! Looks like you got most of your length back from that second mini big chop. 😊 Your hair is flourishing during this pregnancy and I am here for it! I haven't tried this method of pinappling, I always used a loose elastic headband and a low pony, but now that my hair is shorter, I might try this method until it grows back out! :)
Yes!! Regular pineapple overstretches my curls and the get stuck in the up position so they fall wonky the next day . This is such a helpful video. I need a bigger scarf though.
Loved this video I've been watching your video all throughout my 7 month transition. I plan on getting the big chop in about 8 days so i won't have the length to try this but i still love to watch your videos because they give me so much information , knowledge and confidence during my natural hair journey. Thank you and keep up the amazing videos!
A month and a half ago, I did the big chop and had no clue what to do with my hair at night😬 Finally I decided to try a scarf using this technique! That is how I preserve my curls every night lol I joke that my hair looks is like a lunch lady wearing a hair net! But I can now go practically a week on a fresh wash n go because of it!
"Who needs length? We want ATTITUDE, yeah!" I love it. Pulled this up because I need to learn other ways of maintaining wash n go besides a satin bonnet.
I usually just do a bun at night, but I decided to try this and I'm sure it will work. If so I'll definitely let my subbies know that's your technique is bomb!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure out the best method for tying my hair up at night. The pineapple was tried and true, but with wash and goes, it was a flat out NO. I'm gonna try this method and see how it goes. My wash and goes are a little shorter than yours so hopefully it still works for me. THANKS AGAIN WHITNEY
that's how I've done my 3c/4a curls for a while now. it's the only method that works for me & my husband really loves the look 😞😅 but you basically explained every reason why I do it. lol I just leave it on all day when I'm not going anywhere cuz it's so comfy! 😂
The traditional pineapple never worked for me either. So I stopped doing it and I'd just re-twist my hair at night - which is very tedious. This looks like a great idea; I'll definitely be trying it in the future.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!! I always hated when the back of my head is stretched, grrrrrr, I saw this video, ran to the thrift store, bought a satin scarf ( in fact i bought a bunch, teehee) and tried it your way, I love it!!!!! No stretch, just curls, yea!!!!!!
I love it! How did I miss this video. I'm sort of afraid to try this on my 4c hair. I just discovered that the leave-in + oil situation, gives me definition! I did not think it could work on my hair and it did...so maybe I'll watch a few more videos on how to do wash n go's. I was sleeping on my afro's and all the while, my hair was a matted mess! TF this video.
Yay Whit!! Thank you for helping us find another way to preserve the curls. I tried banding and it makes my hair fall funny, too many spaces and sections with the irritating band marks. You always find a way for the lazy days👍💗
I NEEDED THIS!!! I was so tired of trying the pineapple over and over again and it not working for my hair. I have 4b texture and my hair always ended up lopsided and awkward. Gonna try this.
Your happy looks AMAZING. Did I a video when you cut or trimmed your hair. If you didn't do anything, I love the shape of your hair. It's growing super fast
I have shoulder length hair but with shrinkage it looks medium to short length . The pineapple always messes with my definition so what I do is wear my bonnet. The next morning spritz with a little water with my misting bottle and put a plastic cap on for about 10 mins then I lift at roots with my hands (not disturbing curls) , shake and go.
Thank you for sharing this. The traditional pineapple never works for my hair - no matter how many ways I've tried to maneuver them. Always turns out quasi stretched and wonky 😕. Will give this a try! Thanks again 😀
Haha! I actually had to wear this out to drop my daughter off to school before filming this video, LOL! (Of course, I fixed it up a bit, made the front look a bit more presentable... lmbo... the things we do for our YT vids! ) XoXo! 💗💗💗
This is how I do mine. It works perfectly. My hair is not quite longer enough for the standard pineapple. No stretching, pulling etc. In the morning, shake shake shake and we out! :)
Thanks for the video! I'd love to see how you preserve your twist outs! Nothing works for me other than retwisting every night which is why I almost never do them!
Hey Guys!! Here's how I preserve my Wash and Go overnight on my type 4 natural hair! This is the only way I've been able to successfully "pineapple" my type 4 curls so that they don't get too stretched out of shape! I hope it helps! Xo! Nap 💗

"Who needs length...we have ATTITUDE" I want that on a t shirt!
😆😆😆💗
Sheyenne McGhee Yes, me too!
oh yeah.I want one
Sheyenne McGhee Yessssss!!!! With a naturalista rocking her big ass fro on it👍I have 4b/4c hair and I've just realized thanks to Whitney, that my hair texture always gives a LOT of attitude and very little length loool 😂
Naptural85 Start making shirts!
I don't know my exact hair type, but whenever I put my hair up for the night I wake up looking like Jimmy Neutron.
Cuteness_Ok SAME SIS AHAHDBDBA
Why is this so funny?
"Jimmy Neutron" LMAO
Cuteness_Ok 😂😂😂 u did not say jimmy neutron omg!
Facts 😫😂
I've never clicked so fast. Pineapples have never helped with my hair type. The outside would be long and the middle all shrunken. Great video!
LOL!! Yess!!! EXACTLY what mine would look like! Ugh.... not a good look!!! I hope this method works better for you!! 💗💗💗

when the scarf came off i thought of Johnny Bravo lol i do a similar method but i spritz my hair with water or aloe Vera then shake my hair like crazy
your hair looks so shinier and healthier and your curls are pop pop popping now than it ever did since the first big chop! Go Whitney!!
You look full from pregnancy and it's so beautiful on you ❤️❤️. I hope you and the baby are feeling great, can't wait to meet the little angel 😊
RUclips must really know me, because I always get your notifications SUPER fast. 😂
Tbh I've never been about that Pineapple life, because my hair doesn't look right after doing it. Like you, my hair is always overstretched in the back. But I think I'll give this a try at some point!
Haha!! Aww thanks pinkpoet!! I feel you, it was always a fail for me!! I hope this method works better for you!! 💗💗💗
Awesome! I have neverrrrr mastered the pineapple 😫 I have to try this out! Thank you!
Xo!! I hope it works well for you Karina!! 💗💗
I too always have some curl fugitives that escape my bun, ponytails, twist outs etc. They always manage to get away no matter how hard I try! lol Thanks for sharing! Regular pineapples NEVER really worked for me either!
eVaniwithaV 😂😂😂curl fugitives! I usually say I have a runner!
This is exactly how I do my hair & it allows my wash n go to last longer. It also helps to eliminate the gel cast as the days go by but it must be a silk scarf.

very organic pineapple.
Just did a wash and go, right on time
Haha! Nice!!! Hope it works well for you!! 💗💗
Finally a night time hair routine that works! Thank you so much for all the things you've taught me!
it is so clear your hair is trained. I need to teach my hair to behave. I wish my hair would just shake and shape like that. beautiful as always Whitney.
I'm so happy that this video was made because I thought I was the only person with the post-pineapple-stringy-curls look. I'm going to try this!
I do it this way as well, except i put on a bonnet over the scarf! TFS Luv!!!
You're so confident and comfortable in front of the camera. I love it.
yup, this is the key for type 4 coils , no tension to stretch out the curls
I have 4c hair mostly that dries out when I sleep in it at night if I don’t braid or twist it out. I did a wash n go and tried this method last night and omg it worked! Just had to spritz it with water in the morning. So thank you!
Your hair is lush and beautiful.
Mine has a tendency to be stiff and dry. No way I can shake, fluff, and go. My hair is usually flat on one side every morning.
Could you please do a length check video soon? It's great for keeping me modivated!
We have the exact same curl patter except your hair is thicker . I learn so much about my hair through your videos
I know this video is old, but THANK YOUUUUU. I. have been struggling with finding a way to preserve my wash and gos and I came across this video and tried the pineapple method last night and IT WORKED!!!!
This is how I wrap my wash n gos at night as well because I want to avoid the scrunchie mark. Love this method
I've tried this method before and it does work! It's truly type 4 hair friendly.
I do 3 pineapples 1 on front and 2 on the sides. That loose scarf would be on the floor under the bed somewhere. I wear pantyhose or my hair would smell stale in the am.
Haha! Nice!! I've heard of that multiple pineapple method!! 💗💗💗
Curly Rhoday Ooh, I have to try that! I would use pantyhose back in the day for my wraps, but I bet they'll hold curls even better.
I used it for my wraps too
LITERALLY ICONIC LIKE YOU REALLY DID THAT!!! IM SHOOK RN!
Motherhood suites you. You are very beautiful and your hair is on point. I truly love your videos and love your personality. Blessings to you and your lovely family.
Just did first wash n go and have been using this method ever since. Loove it. I have a 4a curl pattern, but a few 3c pieces in the front (:
Oh this is so perfect. My hair is flat ironed right now but oh when my curls come back
I'm so using this.
yes, I've actually done my hair the same way for years
Tee Turner Same here!
ummmmm the scarf??? love and where did you get. lol.
Toia319 Express probably
I've always done my hair this way. I understood early on that bands would put an instant dent in my hair. But I solely do twist outs and when I have my lazy days and don't want to retwist, this is my go to!
Nice! Very nice! I had stop with the crunggies,my hair kept getting stuck in them. I was doing something almost like this some times, other times I just 2 strand twist and pin around my head. I'll try this.
Your just glowing so beautifully.
Looking fabulous Whitney! God bless!
I'm so happy you did this video I've been searching RUclips hoping someone will show me how to preserve a wash and go for the week!! Thank you 😘
The best way to preserve your curls and it doesn't destroy your curl pattern too!!!😙😙😙Thanks
Xo!! So happy to help!! 💗💗
Finally! I've had the exact same problem with the"pineapple" that EVERY video has told me to use for years. Thank you!!!
Yes type 4 hair. I'm so appreciative for videos, as I have the same texture. Very helpful! Thank you!
You've answered my prayers! I have a mix of textures ranging from 3b to 4a and regular pineapples always stretch out the back of my hair and when I take it down my hair tends to just stay clumped up back there it's so annoying. Gonna get a huge scarf and try this asap!
You've just handed me a lifesaver!! I have type3 hair with the same issues!
*Im early 👏I hope everyone who reads this has a good day*
Alicia Lennette same to you!!!
Alicia Lennette hope you had a good day too
Alicia Lennette thank you 😊 Wishing the same to you ☀️
This is how I've always pineappled my hair for wash n go's and twist outs, glad it works for you too
I was thinking I was doing it wrong because whenever I did it my curls had creases and stretched to much.
Love you!!
OMG. I ❤️ your hair. I think you are my hair twin. As I've gotten older my curls have gotten tighter. You are my go to hair guru! Thank you 😊
this is nice for long hair. how would you preserve the wash n go for short hair?
lindy marks I was trying to figure that out too. I have short, 4A hair and I need help too
lindy marks I was just thinking the same thing.
Nape*
Yaaaassss girl! Looks like you got most of your length back from that second mini big chop. 😊 Your hair is flourishing during this pregnancy and I am here for it! I haven't tried this method of pinappling, I always used a loose elastic headband and a low pony, but now that my hair is shorter, I might try this method until it grows back out! :)
So glad you did this! I use the aloe Vera juice and oil and my hair is soooooo soft!!!!! I have you to thank for that!!! 😉
Thank you so much for this! I stopped banding my hair at night and I've been doing this instead. It works wonderfully 🙏🏽
Yes!! Regular pineapple overstretches my curls and the get stuck in the up position so they fall wonky the next day . This is such a helpful video. I need a bigger scarf though.
Thank you so much! The result yields a more relaxed and natural repeat of the previous days style.
I love how you keep it real and practical! The pineapple never worked well for me either, so I'll def give this a try! Yay!
Thank you, I always hate it when the back of my hair is all flat. Will try this tonight=)
You’re hair is so freaking healthy!!!! It looks amazing. I need your tips.
This is how I pineapple my hair too...but it's b/c I don't like bands, etc. in my head at night. Thanks for sharing!
I've been doing this pineapple technique for years! This is great for shorter natural hair as well
"Who needs length? We want ATTITUDE, yeah!" I love it. Pulled this up because I need to learn other ways of maintaining wash n go besides a satin bonnet.
I usually just do a bun at night, but I decided to try this and I'm sure it will work. If so I'll definitely let my subbies know that's your technique is bomb!
Your hair pre- and post pineapple is amazing Whitney!
Why did I keep tilting my head while watching this? 😂
lol!!
Totally!
This looks like a great idea; I'll definitely be trying it in the future.
same, my hair always gets stretched at the back when i try to pineapple. will deffo try this one out and see how it works. Thanks!
Loved this video mama! and your hair looks amazing! 😍👑
I do this on my 3C/4A hair I just use a bonnet instead on a scarf. Shake and go! ❤️
I love this. The pineapple never worked for me either. I am def trying this! Thank you so much for the tip!
Omg the night after is so beautiful 😍 I could never but definitely giving this a GO
Patiently waiting for my type 4 hair to reach this length. Your hair is so beautiful!
I literally told my friend this week a pineapple does not work for me then you created this video!! 🙌🏾 gonna have to try it tonight!
This method changed the game for me 🙌🏼 the regular pineapple had me looking crazy out here
Thank you for sharing this. The traditional pineapple never works for my hair - no matter how many ways I've tried to maneuver them. Always turns out quasi stretched and wonky 😕. Will give this a try! Thanks again 😀
Omg i'm sooooo early! The pineapple is a good style too with a cute head wrap.
Haha! I actually had to wear this out to drop my daughter off to school before filming this video, LOL! (Of course, I fixed it up a bit, made the front look a bit more presentable... lmbo... the things we do for our YT vids! ) XoXo! 💗💗💗
I thought I was the ONLY ONE! lol I've been using this method for years , works great!
OMG it's getting SO hot in Boston 90 degrees on Thursday yay FINALLY!!!
Sadie Zanzuri that's too hot ! It was cold jacket weather a few days ago. ☀️
Ikr it was SO HOT!!
This is how I do mine. It works perfectly. My hair is not quite longer enough for the standard pineapple. No stretching, pulling etc. In the morning, shake shake shake and we out! :)
WOW! This is probably the kind of overnight routine/pineapple my hair needs. Definitely going to try this! Thank you sooo much!
Omg!! Like after u took off the scarf the next day your hair was so shiny thoo!!! Goals!! I love your personality...really miss your vlogs
Yesssss! I always find the best modified versions of everything on your channel! I love it! 💚💚
Love it and will give it a try! Reshaping today was tuff due to all the reasons you stated.
Thanks for the video! I'd love to see how you preserve your twist outs! Nothing works for me other than retwisting every night which is why I almost never do them!
I love this technique I'm trying it on my next wash n go. Can you make a video showing how you preserve your twist outs. Thanks
