I love how people keep deflecting as if this is about the whole actual Afghanistan war. It’s not about the policy, it’s about the execution. This is about the poorly non-planned execution of the removal of our troops. You don’t do it before you remove all Americans, all the Afghan sounds that helped us during the war, the women and children being targeted, etc. You can’t leave behind all of the guns, weapons, helicopters, Blackhawks, army vehicles and most importantly INTELLIGENCE. The Taliban is now using that as a hit list on who to kill for helping America. Most Americans believe we shouldn’t be in this war but most of us also agree that this is not the route we should’ve taken an exit out.

Just because the U.S used the wrong weapons. Specially, the US lacked specialized weapons when it wanted to fight the Taliban.
The specialized weapon to fight the Taliban is to break the Taliban's arguments first. The U.S did not know about this. The U.S can't do this. The U.S lacks the sharp thinkers to do this. It is the ideology that needs to be defeated first. Then the victory on the battlefield will come.

The Afghanistan government survived only thanks to the support of a foreign power. Afghan identity is closely tied to resistance against foreign invasion, particularly the invasion of infidels. (Afghan history glorifies the century-long struggle against the British and the jihad against the godless Soviet Union.) It is easy to use these tropes to mobilize nationalism and religious devotion, which powerfully fuel the will to fight and die. The Ashraf Ghani government had no countervailing narrative of equal intensity to inspire its troops.

@joe smath The "they don't speak english" part really gets me. Because it assumes that North America as a continent had its default language as English and wasn't colonialized by Europe. So you're already showing how much of a conceited fool you are.
The economy literally does not bow to immigrants who have no paperwork. It can't. How would it if they're here as ghosts? So you're showing how little you understand the most basic fundamentals in regard to public services to individuals.
What's more is your bafflingly inaccurate take that we had 2000 troops there.
Even if you want to believe there were that few over the last 20 years, it's been 20 years and military costs are high. Do you know how much a brand new M65 jacket costs? How about their weapons which require replacement and maintenance? And don't even get me started on vehicles. For twenty straight years.
So you're showing how small your scope of military occupation actually is.
What it all comes down to is that Afghanistan isn't our country. Never was. Never should be. If they collapsed as quickly as they did, then by your meager estimates of how little we actually invested in them only further serves the argument that it ought not rest on our shoulders to continue to fund what is essentially a security presence, because obviously liberating the country from the Islamic state failed.
You cannot possibly make an argument in favor of continue to pump an ounce of resources into Afghanistan occupation without admitting that the terrorists won. Because if you're afraid that pulling out gives them some sort of dangerous advantage, then you're admitting that they're fulfilling their duties as terrorists by definition.
Don't worry kid, you'll get there.

If they had a quarter of their brain working, they wouldn’t make foolish comments like that. It’s just the ridiculous comments the woke crowd makes so they can show everyone how compassionate they are, yet, they really don’t lift a finger to help anyone else and retreat to a “safe space” when someone says something they don’t like.
Also, I agree with you 100%. Biden should step down and apologize for all the damage he’s caused our nation in such a short amount of time. I mean, seriously, it has to be some kind of world record for screwing up the most amount of things in the shortest amount of time, for any president.

So basically, from the gist of it, the Afghan army were Taliban supporters, at least half of them were. Us, the U.S trained these taliban soldiers hiding admist the "real" Afghan military. We gave them technology and taught them strategies. The moment Trump pulled troops back home secretly without telling the Afghan Government is when these supporters/Taliban Army revealed themselves, basically scattered all around the region. The other half Afghan army couldn't react fast enough, how can they? Especially when the EU and NA military disappeared without trace. They were either scared, due to the sudden disappearance of the U.S Army without notice, or lost the will to fight on and lose more lifes, basically they were helpless in this situation.
It also didn't help that their wives and children whom are daughters or sons had to get to safety, since Taliban sees females inferior/2nd class citizens, and had to get their life savings saved somewhere else secured since Taliban could seize their banks, but how can these half Afghan soldiers less so civilians accomplish all of this in one day with the surprise of Taliban appearing everywhere and the government gone? By the way, all of this in ONE DAY! While the Airport had limited planes for people to get on as well, so even if you managed to keep your family safe and stored your wealth at the back trunk of your car driving away, you probably missed the plane, and now are stuck in controlled Taliban vacinity.

Trump did not leave Afghanistan in the dark. They knew we were going to leave. We have spent 20 years there. In fact, we have been training their army, and provided them support in funding, weaponry, and vehicles. The pullout didn't smack them in the face out of nowhere. Maybe the citizens, but the Government knew.
Trump expected that the Afghan army could handle the Threat, and the Taliban weren't really a threat anymore. That's also why we pulled out of Syria.
Now here's where Biden failed. When talks of Taliban picking up speed and the situation in Afghanistan becoming muddled, he said something along the lines of "The situation in afghanistan is fine. Taliban will not be running it." Despite that being an obvious lie and continued the pullout. I'm not gonna say for certain, but I'd say the difference is if Trump was still around, people believe that he would have reversed the pullout.

@@jayaghosh1 Yes, I cried, too. I did so even before I read or saw details as I know what this means, including all you mention above, @PersonalDanceParty. One particularly sad thing was when the young woman said why does no one care. I care! So many of us do care. The women and children were the first I thought of.. with terror and sadness. Then the contractors and then everyone there. I will be sending prayers but wish there was more I could do to help them. Also, Biden should have done this in a way to ensure all of our people and all contractors had time to get safely out. I wish they could know and feel that so many of us do care so deeply. Leaving in this ransack manner erases all of the progress we'd made. I hope the Taliban will treat all well as they've promised, but fear this will lead to more lost lives everywhere.

The Vietnamese were patriots, not religious fundamentalists who covered their women, practiced boy toy bancha bazi, flood the airport with all males unwilling to fight for their country. They did not reject Western music, clothes, or modernization, they just didn’t want to be under archaic French Imperialism, they were pro Democracy. Do not compare the Vietnamese with these Afghanistan’s who despise Western ways, from Women’s liberation to Democracy which goes against their religious tribalism.

We can't hold their hands forever...eventually we were going to have to leave. The middle east is NEVER a happy place to be. We stayed too long anyways...we had one mission...to get Bin Laden and his cronies out of Afghanistan and to provide stability.
