  • A new Mural was completed just yesterday in Piazza Sanità, at the very heart of Rione Sanità, in Naples.
This piece of StreetArt is very colourful, with blues, yellows and reds, that are the colours of the city, representing the Sky, Sunshine and Passion.
The is a mermaid, a San Gennaro, a number ten (obvious nod to Maradona), windows and perhaps Castel dell'Ovo, the flames of Vesuvius and a coffee cup with coffee beans flying as if they were stars in the sky.
The piece is quite gaudy and changes the image of the square.
Most importantly, it is not just artwork but an advertisement for Lavazza Coffee.
The artist claims it benefits the local community and it is a form of sustainable development. However neither he, nor the advertising agency, nor the coffee brand are local.
The local brand, popular in Naples is, indeed Kimbo.
So while many are happy about it, because there is little happening in the way of development, besides tourism, I still feel sceptical about it.
Please drop a comment with your thoughts about it.
