Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris went head-to-head in their first- and possibly only- debate in the 2024 cycle this week.
In the over 90-minute debate, the differences between the two candidates' word choice, rhetoric, and speech style gave some insight into the candidates' state of mind and voter outreach strategy.
PBS News’ Casey Kuhn spoke with two linguists, Texas A&M journalism professor Jennifer Mercieca and University of California, Berkeley linguistic professor Nicole Holliday about what the candidate's speech styles tell us about the candidates.
