      The half of the fandoms that don't call out their idols or educate their idols make me sick. Like humans are gonna do shit like this, they should respect it and call them out on this bullshit. I don't care if they "didn't mean it" or "weren't educated", thats the reason people should step in. I'm still an ARMY but I hold them accountable for their bullshit. Like the fandom is disgusting as fuck, the ones that defend them without being the offended audience, without understanding, and attacking people without realizing what they did was wrong. It sickens me that those type's of people are within some K-pop fandoms, but it's just like that I guess. They need to realize the world isn't perfect, and neither are BTS. Or any idol, or person, for that matter. People do dumb shit and they need to be called out, held responsible, and educated more on what they did. As a Black & Native American person, I am highly hurt by their actions and I hold them to it. I really wish they would apologize.

    when the situation came up I was so broken, the time when protests started I was basically disconnected from anything kpop. So many black armys including myself were demanding an apology and an explanation. But non black armys started saying that we were throwing him under the bus and not respecting his "artistic freedom". They constantly made the same dumb excuses of how he used it to seem "badass" or "clap back at Jim jones". They were calling us antis and basically reporting us and stuff. Before the whole removal of the piece and the apology, I came up with two choices depending on how they responded. If he didn't explain himself and apologize, not only would I leave the fandom but I would stop supporting them altogether and If he does, I will still be wary but at least I knew where his mind was at. That whole month was exhausting for so many of us and the fact that other armys started shows racist behavior drove some of us to surround ourselves with other black armys only and to be honest it'll be hard to say we forgive them at all. But still their apology sounded damn stupid

They even tried to say jim Jones was a anti korean too.They literally switched the story so many times and always try to cover up there idols wrong doing especially by saying "they didn't know" "the company did it" its really annoying 😒 smh

    Being a huge BTS stan, this hurts. Yoongi was wrong to use the sample and the least he could have done is actually apologized instead of bighit actively trying to shift the blame. And the people trying to defend yoongi should stop being so blind...it's the people's right to demand an explanation and apology if nothing else

    so I am white and when the jones sample surfaced and i saw people speaking up about it, mainly black armies, i believed them obviously and emailed bighit, and most of the fandom made me feel like shit (now i am in no way saying my feeling like shit compares to anything black people feel about the situation) for speaking up about it. I feel it is my duty to speak up about these things especially because i am white. I remember that night i was researching jones like hell because armies were saying he was anti korean but like i literally read the same article you showed in this video and many more and he literally loved koreans. To be honest until i watched this video, sometimes i still doubted that i did the right thing because it seemed that everywhere i looked people were defending bh and yoongi and calling anyone who didn't support them an anti. I'm really glad i found this video and I hope many more people watch it.

    Thank you so much for taking time to make this video containing such topic even while those challanging times seem to have no end. I'm really sorry that Black people have to endure this shit even at a place that was supposed to be a distraction and a source of enjoyment. If you don't mind, I'd like to share a few thoughts, as a person that recently got into BTS, but is as trying to be as reasonable as possible. It is so overwhelming, BTS as a product with a huge company behind and interntional fans has power to shift numerous narratives that have been going on in both South Korea and K-pop, such as racism, yet they don't find themselves powerful enough to do so or whatever, instead they avoid such topics or just talk things people would like to hear, not too outstanding or proggressive, but giving an impression that they do something. And donations are great, RM's speech on UN is great, but is that all they can do? What is it going to take for them to realise that the fans shouldn't be utilised as just naive money-givers but recognised as people to some of which BTS are role models? It pisses me off how they (and I mean the whole BTS brand) allow fans to defend them and excuse them without reason, and to spread racism, as long as they throw money at them. And I used to be amazed by how BTS are grateful to their fans and how much they say they appreciate and love them, but isn't it just talking to keep army as engaged as possible to get them to give BTS the money? I don't know, on the other hand SK is that type of country where doing something against a certain social norm is totally not acceptable and can ruin lives (I also live in a similar type of country and it seriously is tough). Also, do you think that, at this point, the "incidents" like this let's-deny-everything-even-though-there's-evidence shit with Yoongi, numerous, repeating cases of appropriation of Black culture and other, most recent stuff are done because these grown men, that have access to various resources, are ignorant, racist or just unaware?

    • @AdeolaAsh
      @AdeolaAsh  4 года назад +101

      Tbh I don’t think they’ll ever check the fandom because this delusional connection to the boys is what pays BTS’s bills. BTS used to make controversial songs about political issues but they’ve moved away from that since. I think they’re aiming for more consumable, light content at this point. As for Yoongi, I honestly think he didn’t feel it would be a big deal. He probably thought it was great for the aesthetic he was going for. There isn’t anyone from the outside world like a friend etc to change their perspective (I’m assuming). I honestly feel like they just don’t think what we complain about is a big deal- and I mean that for all of Kpop bc they all keep messing up big time.

    I originally had no opinion on BTS, I had stopped listening to Kpop in middle school, but this just all seems kind of icky to learn as an outsider. Supporting a movement for Black Libration to gain and maintain social capital to me is worst than saying nothing. Originally the donation was cool and all but knowing what preceded it is upsetting, ugh I was not expecting to get emotionally drawn in lol. I hope their tweets and donations manifest into actually learning not for BTS and groups but for the individual members (and stans/ fans). Hope this hasn't sucked out the joy you receive from them. Love the vids

I got into kpop late 2016 early 2017 but have since grown further and further away from it, as a black woman the amount of racism in kpop/khiphop is disgusting and hasn't gotten any better as international as bts is they still pull crap like this. I've honestly lost hope for kpop it was nice while it lasted, I thought I found a nice escape all those years ago but the racism/ignorance/appropriation is too much its not even something hidden or old. I would have loved for this to work out but like everything else it was to good to be true, as a poc you always have that hope that another group of poc would have your back or at the very least prove a safer space but it always falls through and I'm tired.

    At the time that this happened, I wasn't really active in the BTS fandom, so I didn't knew about D-2 in general, but after reading some tweets months later of some people talking about this and watching a video of a (for what i understood) former black army talking about how this was really hurtful and she felt really sensitive about it; I grew curious because i deadass never heard of what happened. I saw shocked when I read about the use of the Jim Jones speach but i was even more uneasy when I realized how many people tried to make it look like it wasn't as bad as the media or black people said it was, or that it wasn't bad at all (like those people that said that Yoongi had creative liberty and could do as he wanted with his music). It's just full on stupid to try to justify the use of a literal sect leader in a song about dissing haters, I also felt so mad when I read the apology, they could have just said "this is wrong, we knowingly used this speach and we apologize for it, it shouldn't have been used in the song and we, both Big Hit and Min Yoongi, take responsibility for not been sensitive enough about this person, his actions and the consequences that they carried", it was just unprofessional and a petty excuse to say that "they didn't know who he was" and that "Yoongi was not responsible for it" when he alwasy talks about how he himself writes and produces everything in his mixtapes. The donation was fine but the reason as to why they did it and advertised it is just shit. I felt really bad of calling myself and army at that time when i realized the poor treatment of black armys in the fandom and how they were being silenced about a topic that tehy had all the rights to talk about.

I love him and the boys but this is a big issue that was not addressed nor handled properly. I'm poc and I apologies to black armys. I hope the boys can learn and grow from these mistakes and avoid them. I don't want to have to feel this way. I don't want to tarnish what they mean to me because they've been the source of my healing and confort and happiness in mh life. I truly hope this never happens again.

    Wow kinda ironic that this all kinda mirrors cult like behavior with toxic fans similar to cult followers. Like these extreme fans with such undying love, loyalty, and devotion to their idols who they view as like perfect angels who can never do wrong. Defending them against anything like lying & trying to rewrite history even when there's proof and evidence against their arguments. And also how they go after and attack those who speak against or point out wrong doings of their idols. They cyber bully, harass, threaten etc these people to ruin and distress them.
    I don't know much about this specific cult but a lot of that matches how the Scientology cult is(but obviously not as bad as Scientology) with followers believing their leader is like a God and to never question him but blindly follow him. And go after those who speak out or badly about Scientology, which is much worse if course like on a whole other level

    idk how i should feel about this vid. It was great, all your points were right and all. Why would they put a cult leader in the song. But the thing is, when yoongi makes the music, he wouldnt be like " oh nice lets put a murderer in this song". If he would be really racist, he wouldnt do it so obvious. Like no one would put a cult leader in a song and think it would be a good idea.
    I think it had its reasons, but i dont think he really would be like "nice lets be obvious racist"

    I still love Yoongi's music. I respect him as an artist. But in all honesty, if I met him and new him personally, I doubt I'd like him. Despite loving bts and their music, I fucking hate their silence. I hate this fandom. Every where I go, I see homophobic and racist "ARMY's". I fucking hate it. I probably wouldn't like many of the members personally. I still have love for all of them, I really do. Part of me knows that they were born in South Korea of all places, which isn't the most friendly towards BIPOC, but at this point, Yoongi seems down right insensitive and like he refuses to educate himself. Namjoon educated himself, and has a long way to go. None of the members are perfect, but at least the majority of them are actually sensitive to other people's issues once educated. I feel like Yoongi gave no fucks. I usually love his "idgaf" attitude. But this? No. Just....no. Fuck that. Each member has pissed me off to some extent. Sometimes, I'm lenient with what they did years ago. But this shit is RECENT! I LITERALLY HAVE THIS MAN'S POSTERS ALL AROUND MY ROOM, AND I FEEL COMPELED TO RIP THEM TO SHREDS!!! I love being an ARMY. I love BTS. But y'all are so fucking slow to check them on their colorism not only to others, but to EACH OTHER. Not to mention their disrespect to certain races. It fucking pisses me off. A lot of celebrities don't give a fuck about us (BIPOC). And they most likely never will. It's our job as their fans to check their asses, not to "protect them from antis who want to defame them". Some of y'all are really that desperate to see them shirtless, huh? This fandom pisses me off, bro. Most of my personal problems have to do with the oldest three, as they're the oldest and in Korea (and almost anywhere), the older generation is the least accepting and open minded. Are they open minded? A little bit. Do they still piss me off? Hell yeah. I'm not hating on them. I just have issues with them personally. The younger ones aren't innocent, either. The only one I haven't felt disappointed in or pissed at was Taehyung, as he's pretending stayed silent when it comes to all of the other shit. And the colorism-
    Tell me how they're gonna be colorist towards EACH OTHER? They act like it's all fun and games until one of them starts crying (pretty sure Taehyung cried once). Hoseok and Taehyung got the most shit for being "darker" by what? Half a shade? Bitch. They're really put here talking shit about each other? And then advocating for them being brothers? Bruh. No. Family doesn't do that. Skin color (lightness and darkness/how pale you are/etc.) is something a lot of Koreans and this in the east in general, hell, all over the world, are insecure about. You're gonna shit on your brothers about an insecurity that practically everyone has? Mother fucker, really? That's fucked up and insensitive. And we stan that even though Hoseok got a lot of shit for being 0.1 shade darker, he still made fun of the other members for tanning. Even Jungkook (and others) got worried about tanning because they didn't want to get darker. Bruh. It really fucks with me.
    At this point, I have a list of which members I'd like to sock in the face, Yoongi being at the tip top. Jimin's on there, too, but that's for some other shit (like him wearing a native American headdress in a photoshoot. My culture is not your costume, Park).
    Anyways. I have a lot of respect for them as artists. Music wise, I'll always admire them. But personally? I'd love to sock some of them in the jaw. Just the good old one-two. Anyways. Have a nice day. Blessed be.

    istg....if these people don't stop trying to defend their favs... I'm not gonna lie I LOVE BTS so much, but when they do bs Y all "army's" need to call it out and stop trying to defend their actions by acting like they are babies, saying they didn't know and all that bs, and I think that apology was total BS and all those BLM post coming out at once, everything seems rehearsed and I don't like that.
    Y all have no idea what it's like to be black and how deeply situations affects us. I had no idea all of this was happening I personally don't follow kpop media I just listen to the music I like and enjoy it but when I see s#@* like this going on I'm not going to pretend like i didn't see it because I like the group, no it needs to be called out and seeing this makes me feel like they don't appreciate black army's all that much because everything seems so planned. I appreciate their donation I do, but due to the fact that they only started doing it because alot of people were asking them to do it and not because they saw it personally makes me wonder if it was from the heart and I'm not just talking about BTS I'm talking all kpop groups groups. A lot if these stars not just k stars have this "it doesn't affect me so it's not my problem" mentality and that is just blatant ingnorance. I STILL VERY MUCH LOVE BTS

    Why did he put that in his song? 🙄 After seeing how ARMYs react everytime something like this happens my conclusion is that BTS army is not a fandom it is a CULT. Armys are insane. They are doing everything to justify their ignorant acts just like what cult members do. They believe attacking everyone who does not support BTS when they act like morons, make them so powerful that the earth is now on their palms 😂I felt like SUGA intentionally did it to show that he has followers who is ready to do anything for him (if it was for aesthetic he could have added his own voice. Why a cult leader?). Proving my theory this fandom act like a cult.😂 I like BTS too but they are not GODs and they should not be worshipped.
    And the majority of the fandom consists of fans aged between 12-17 I think. It's sad to see. They are getting wrong ideas from these kind of fandoms. Kids who depend on their parents are trying to protect their IDOLs. From where did this concept come from? 🧐

Anytime an army tells you a bts member has apologized for something, tell them to send you the direct link & timestamp if applicable. Don’t believe it until you see it for yourself. The only member of bts who has ever said anything in regards to cultural insensitivity was Namjoon and even he has never addressed the Black community nor Black fans directly.

    Thank you for this video and all the information you've provided. I'm still learning about the whole issue, and I don't know whether yoongi knew or not, and why he did not apologise individually. But definitely, it is important to check the sources of work you use. And more importantly, bullying and doxxing is not ok. Covering up black armys and manipulating the narrative into saying that these "armys" are not supporting yoongi is definitely not the right thing to do. We, as a fandom, have to be open to criticism and really see if there is substance to it, and not just blindly support and follow. If we truly love them, we must look out for them, praise them for when they do good, but call them out when they are wrong. That is love, that is what's right. The fandom even today is nowhere close to that and it will take a lot of effort to make the community that way. But I hope we can help each other and BTS, educate each other, and continue to support one another in the best possible way.

    It is BECAUSE we love them that it is so so important to call them out on this stuff and help to educate them. Because we know they can do better, so why shouldn't we speak up. Holding people accountable and hating on them are VERY different things. I love BTS more than anyone and that's exactly why I'm not okay with armys brushing this under the rug and gaslighting black armys & black people in general. BTS can learn to do better, Armys can learn to do better, and we need to give black armys the space to talk about this without gaslighting and speaking over them. If your friends or family did something culturally inappropriate or racist you would want to hold them accountable and educate them, let's think of our faves the same way. We can't go losing our morals just because it's BTS.💜

    As someone who has no interest in k-pop beyond a very casual 'oh this song is good', I think while his comment maybe insensitive we can all relate to saying "at least this good thing came out of it" about any negative situation so that one particular situation seems kinda weak compared to the genuinely egregious acts that you talk about after. I think starting with something like that turns away the people who need to see videos like these.

    • @AdeolaAsh
      @AdeolaAsh  Год назад +5

      According to RUclips analytics, the average view duration of this video is 6:24 minutes, so obviously the average viewer got to see the “egregious acts” you speak of. I talked about the events in the order they happen and as I showed at 3:13 Yoongi’s comment was instrumental to the general public finding out about the Jim Jones sample. If someone can’t be bothered to watch a video for 6.5 minutes or 3.25 minutes at a 2x speed, they’re obviously not my target demographic. It’s a ~19 minute long video I made under extreme duress as I was experiencing racial trauma left and right amidst the height of the Black Lives Matter movement during summer of 2020. You telling me I should’ve started with the gory stuff first for a more attention grabbing intro is hilarious considering it’s a miracle I even had the mental bandwidth left in me to make this video in the first place. Take it or leave it, I truly can’t be bothered at this point.
