    The lesson that we're learning from Akasaka Aka (the author of the Oshi no Ko manga) is that Abiko-sensei and GOA are both victims of the miscommunication. In part, Abiko-sensei doesn't understand how the different medium works, but also GOA isn't receiving proper communication and is literally being led astray from what both he and Abiko-sensei want by internal politics. If she and GOA had simply spoken directly from the beginning she would not have overreacted and she would have understood that the stage play was in good hands.

      @@wopwop8624 I think it has to do with parts of Japanese culture, especially the idea of being non-confrontational. The whole issue of excessive respect for elders or superiors is seen here, when her editor decides to soften what she said, to the point that when the message reaches GOA it had already gone through several filters and the meaning of Abiko's corrections was lost

      @@FranciscoOyola94 slight disagree.the excessive respect for elders or superiors has nothing to do with this.
      from my understanding japanese culture specially japanese business culture is built from trust and harmony.respect is just a result of trying to achieve a harmonious relationship.this is why in this part in order to maintain harmony they decided to lessen conflict between authors and writers by having multiple middlemen.and the issue in that is this is not a long term solution for a long time partnership.conflicts like this will exist and will continue to exist if they dont come up with something better
      but the issue in the original comment is what my point is about.stating like as if sensei just pointed the finger when that is not true.exhanges where made before the insult.she went too far for sure but her demands ,which was reasonable , was not met.its not her job to check if the script was good she just wanted proper care to her characters.

    I love how this arc shows the nuances of how things are made and its really no one persons falt 10 people have a foot in this project and each of them has a foot in several other projects so everyone cant easly meet up to work on this at once so a game of telephone is made and miscommunication happens.

    The blame is not on Abiko's care for faithful adaptation nor on GOA's efforts. The issue is that Abiko's anger is misdirected to GOA because of her poor social skills and inexperience in how stage production works.

    • @originaldarkwater
      @originaldarkwater 3 месяца назад +2

      This is exactly what I was thinking, too. Yuriko outright says that Abiko is lacking in social graces because she's always holed up drawing manga. Her outburst is not meant to be seen as good or justified, she's just lashing out because she's upset about what happened to Sweet Today and doesn't want her work to suffer the same fate. It's a perfectly human reaction, but not meant to be a model for how to handle such situations.

    She's harsh alright. Prez's point where the author will get the harsh criticisms for bad writing, audience already know the story from source material(manga and anime). And on the stageplay, the scriptwriter's name is on the posters and credits. So if it's bad, he clearly will get all the bad feedback.

    It should be obvious. 7:00 The manga creator and the scriptwriter shouldn't be at each others throats, because "thanks" to most of people in the middle, feedback from the manga creator to scriptwriter is getting lost.😂 Great reaction!😃

  • @hanejima140
    @hanejima140 3 месяца назад +4

    11:20 This is a hard disagree for me. In the case of adaptations, even if they're "ass", the original author themselves almost never get flack. A large majority if not the entirety of the audience that looks at an adaptation critically are fans* who love the original work. Only the scriptwriters get shit on, sometimes along with the production staff. You can always look at Anime Live Action Adaptations as evidence.
    And in this particular case, Abiko wants to make it good not because she's looking for the public's praise or to protect her reputation as a talented author. That's just a small part of it. She mostly wants her work to get adapted properly after seeing what happened with Sweet Today.
    14:03 Yeah, Prez was kinda right for the POSITIVE results, although not entirely. The author gets credit, but GOA is exaggerating when he said that ALL credit goes to the author. I disagree that the same happens for the NEGATIVE results, and the first part of my comment explains that.

    Abiko sensei is in assumption that her message would be forwarded to the scriptwriter properly, but due to the middlemen mistranslating her message the scriptwriter seems like an idiot who didn't try his best and shouldn't write in the first place to Abiko sensei so it's a fair feedback from her imo

  • @TrueThanny
    @TrueThanny 2 месяца назад

    15:58 Absolutely not. If someone is doing a shit job, they need to be informed in no uncertain terms.
    The issue here is that the manga author was sending in revision notes that she believed the script writer received and then ignored or botched. But he never got _any_ of her revisions. He only got badly translated versions by people who inserted their own variations where they didn't belong.
    She was right to be angry, but didn't know that she was angry at the wrong person.
    The question is whether or not this misunderstanding will be addressed in future episodes. I won't say either way, in case you haven't watched the whole season yet.

    The fine touch in the dubbing: at the end of the first episode that “all” has the tone from the point of view of the cast of the show, at the beginning of this episode it is said in an innocent tone, since the author of the manga does not know the internal dynamics of the show business and says it as if it were a small thing. Top.

  • @TriStain69

    I get the whole 'it's the industry' thing, but I still think that it WAS harsh. It's one thing to dislike and not approve of a scriptwriter's script adapting your work, it's a WHOLE other thing to full-on call them 'talentless'. That's not criticism, that's just anger-fueled, needless insults. You can say "That's how the industry is", but in my opinion that's an extremely unprofessional thing to do, regardless of how upset Abiko was.
    And I disagree with the whole "the original author is gonna get the audience criticism if the adaptation is bad" thing. I feel like the complete opposite is true. With adaptations of works, I feel like fans more often tend to glorify the original creator. If an adaptation is bad, they blame the directors/scriptwriters/etc for not following the original creator's vision and ignoring their feedback. If an adaptation is good, they say that it's because they respected the original creator and worked closely with them. I don't think I've EVER seen a situation where the original creator is blamed for a bad adaptation.

    Back-biting, harsh criticism, lack of chemistry, budget cuts, yelling, selfish demands, script rewrites right before recording, 20 takes of the same scene because you didn't capture the director's vision. Then you have the media/public to answer to afterwards.

    5:05 "To see the rehearsal...so she KNOWS these terms!" I think it isn't so much that she knows the terms as she knows what some terms are in some contexts, but doesn't know all common phrases in the field. Here, Abiko uses the "rehearsal" NOUN correctly, but in the previous episode, when referring to "rehearse" as a verb phrase, she deferred to the more common verb phrase used in OTHER contexts: "renshuu shite", literally "to do studying/practicing" (often translated directly as "to study" / "to practice"), something you might attribute to a student or an athlete. I think the nuanced expectations/conventions of the form of speech was the bit the author was using to showcase Abiko's unfamiliarity & lack of experience.

    In fact, an identical situation to this story occurred in Japan this spring in a TV drama based on a manga.
    Unfortunately, the producer and screenwriter were different people from the ones portrayed in "Oshi no Ko."
    The producer ignored the contract with the original author regarding the "parts that are not permitted to be changed" and went ahead and did so.
    In retaliation for being forced to step down, the screenwriter wrote the whole From the screenwriter's perspective circumstance on social media, mixed with sarcastic comments towards the original author.
    As a result, the original manga artist committed suicide.
    The chapter of 2.5-dimensional stage of “ Oshi no Ko ” original comic was serialized several years ago, so it is not related to the incident.
    The original author of Oshi no Ko is himself a manga artist, so I think it's highly likely that he portrayed her that way to keep things balanced.
    And I think that her words, although they may be quite exaggerated, contain a great deal of the original author's own feeling.
    This is because, in reality, Japanese manga artists do not have a very strong position when it comes to live-action adaptations.
    Hollywood once caused a huge outrage when they made a terrible movie that heavily altered Dragon Ball.

    I wish every author was like abiko when it comes to adaptions of theyr work. Utterly ruthles and uncompromissing, not allowing for anyone to mess with their work.
    Of course in this specific case Goa was not at fault, it was the people between them that miscomunicated.
    But I have seen to many times how screenwritters just disregard the original work, the author and the fans and outright insult and berate them and then go and use the name of the authors work for their own goals. One example would be netflix witcher series.

  • @saito454

    For me, if I am the scriptwriter that would be very harsh if the author said it to me.
    The scriptwriter just followed the instructions handed over to him. The author and the scriptwriter is not at fault. Just a big miscommunication due to how the process works.
    Reality wise, lets put it on the manga anime scenario. If the adaptation is bad it will not all be the authors to received the bad comments but the animation studio (at least for the ones who already read the manga).

      No it wasn't professional, and it wasn't meant to be. As Yuriko explains, Abiko is a loner and lacking in social skills. How she reacts to this situation is meant to be seen as inappropriate because of that lack. Also consider that, at 22, Abiko is barely an adult and not very experienced with the ways of the world.
      Not understanding how people work, Abiko probably doesn't understand how much of the situation was created by that game of telephone, so all her frustration that should be directed at the system ended up being unfairly targeted at GOA, instead. Yuriko could have explained it to her, but Yuriko obviously didn't realize just how frustrated and angry Abiko was until she let fly in the middle of the rehearsal.

    This episode explained ultimately the original creator gets the credit if the play does well but if the play doesn't, the scriptwriter and production gets shitted on by fans and audience. The scriptwriter does not get the full credit because the anime and manga is doing well and "it's obvious" the play would do well thanks to the creator and the popularity it already has.
