Oh boy I love it. I've been watching a few clogging tubes and it is fantastic. Words fail me for the great feelings that these give me to see people dancing and absolutely loving it. It certainly gets the old heart racing. Butch Semmler Australia
Butch Semmler damn, couldn't have said it better myself. I'm 62, raised on Rock 'n Roll and I found these early one evening and watched them till 3 in the morning, sharing them with everyone I could.
The song is "Sugar in the Gourd." Jimmy C. Newman, who introduced them, has been an Opry member since 1956. Earl White, the fiddler, was the last fiddler for the Crook Brothers, the last surviving original Opry members. Charlie Collins, the guitarist, worked with Roy Acuff for 25 years.
I was once on the Original floor clogging in my size two light up shoes 23 April 2005 ot the new Grand Old Opry, Porter Wagoner was the announcer and Earl White played fiddle and Charlie Collins was the guitar player, now how lucky am I. I sure wish there was a small video of this it was around 7:45pm Nashville time! I was so excited to get to meet and shake Former Legendary Porter Wagoner's hand sure! My grandmother's square dance shoes were black instead of white. They were her dress up shoes as long as she could go anywhere. Wish I could have seen Granny square dance!
I used to hang out backstage at the Opry every Friday and Saturday night with my friend Porter Wagoner for a couple years. His bodyguard was my friend and martial arts student and that is how we met and became friends. After the Opry we would go across the street to the Nashville Palace with a couple of the dancers that were a married couple and she was a great fiddle player who got to play it on the Opry too. I won't name them. But, people in the know will know who I am talking about. Today at the Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, Tennessee there is an event called Celebration with Melvin Sloan. It is at 6:45pm on the Opry Stage at the Fiddler's Grove Opry Pavillion. These dancers are incredibly talented. May God bless Melvin Sloan and his family. And, may he rest in peace.
@@WEIRDNEWSNETWORK His wife passed away in 2018 and he was alive then. I have not heard or read anything about him dying, and I'm sure it would have made the news. Pretty positive he's still around.
The Man on the Guitar,in the Opry Square Dance Band, Mr. Charlie Collins, passed away, a couple weeks ago,at age 78. He was a long-time member of Roy Acuff's Smokey Mountain Boys, and played with Bashful Brother Oswald, after Roy Acuff's death. he was 78.
This looks a lot like square dancing, which we did (tried to do) back in elementary school. 1950s - early 60s. Both of these forms are probably hanging on by a thread. Makes you wonder what other forms of music and dance have disappeared altogether.
very nice and I'm sure they were high quality and lasted a long time, does anyone custom make clothes like that today, I would doubt it, would be soo expensive
Yes indeed folks! It don't get any better then this right here. If i could, I'd love to jump up there w/them. Old-time dancing like this is AWESOME. Get it ya'll.
I believe this sell off marked a major break from the situation last year, when the Vix recorded its lowest ever average annual rate in the stock market.
Haha! Well I can't speak for all Buck Dancers/Cloggers but my "power leg" is my left leg. I can balance on it and keep driving the rhythm with my leg foot. The 360 spin is called the "Wing". If you can do it on both sides, it is called the "Double Wing".
Not sure what I'm watching .... but I love it.
I still have these exact shoes when i clogged back in the day.

Excellent, in these sad times. Thank you!
Yes!! No calorie left unburned. Great memories - I used to watch these good folks on a TV show back in the late 70s. Used to clog back then as well.

@@jimbo0865 Jim, I really wish you were right. But, his biography on IMDB says "He passed away on January 12, 2010."

My Mother Ruby Hollingsworth made those outfits. I still remember watching her sitting there sewing those outfits.

My wife's one of the dancers. Julie
She did a great job!
How about that? These were one of my favorites. They were wonderfully sewn and so fun to dance in! Thank you Ruby!

That's some mighty fine fiddle playin. I'll bet Charlie Daniels could wear this one out!
They were all fantastic, of course, but the third girl from 2:30 to 3:00 flat out tore it up imho.

Why is there not any Ralph Sloan & Dancers videos? That's a shame is all I know.
I thought Ralph and his dancers were awesome. Loved them on That Nashville Music.
They can wear those outfits at my party and serve the hors d'oeuvres
@SthrnAllStar Couldn't have said it better!
Brill !!!!!
Always wanted be a melvin sloan Dan cer
Love this dance! Question: why do cloggers only do the 360 spin using their right leg? Never see the left one used.

I shouldn't be doing this. I'm showing Lucifer what my perfect hell would be.
Eeee haaa!
Who was the fiddle player?
absolutely amazing steps - absolutely garrish and detracting costumes.
Prefiro o sapateado mais marcado com os grandes protetores no calçado !
Some say they dance this way because they put ants in their pants.
What year would this be? Thanx
are they tap dancing?
no. they're clogging
Appalachian Square Dancing is what we call it in Kentucky.
This video just proves why you should NOT be doing crackcocaine!
