Hi @stephanieperry, watched the replay a few days ago and loved it so I shared it with a friend. She's from Curacao and I lived there for six years some years ago. We both agreed that it's a pity you left with the wrong impression about the local food there. She said it sounds like you did not go to Plaza Bieu (Old Market) in Punda for lunch. You would have enjoyed any of the stoba (stew) like yambo (a rich okra dish) plantain stew, bean stew, tutu (a black-eyed peas recipe), fresh fish with funchi = seasoned cornmeal balls, stuffed Dutch cheese, etc. The ingredients in those dishes may be more international but they would be cooked a la Curacao style. Maybe next time? 😊

Also catching the replay. Spent some time on the island with the Air Force during the so-call-“War on Drugs". I loved the island and the local people and the culture. Everyone was friendly and helpful. And yes you need a car. I stayed in the casino resort and was able to walk the local area, but had to get a cab to Willemstad a few times. The shops and cabs take and prefer U.S. Dollar but converting to local currency “Guilder” is cheaper. There was crime, but not at the level we were told about (go figure- right), just like most places be aware of your surroundings. If your black and speak Spanish fluently, you can melt in pretty easily. Like I said, I loved it there and want to visit again...vacation travel next time.
