super late reply but i blame the record label mostly, not taylor swift. when she signed a contract it mentioned how they would own the song. it’s not rare it just depends on the label and you usually have to buy your work back, but not the case of taylor.

Okay, I have a genral doubt. Taylor said she can re-record albums 1 through 5, but what about Reputation, her 6th album? Big Machine Label has the masters for that too, right? So why won't she be re-recording that one? Is she going to wait for a while, because it's a more recent album? Or is she not allowed to?
She is not allowed to because of the contract maybe there is a time limit like after this period you can re-record idk she can re-record reputation in 2022

It's not about money. She has more than enough of that. It's about someone else (someone she doesn't like) having control of HER voice, her work, her music. This is not a new concept. Paul McCartney has been trying to get control of his masters for decades.
