    Cool, now I now how to install the new windshield I bought for my 1968 MGC. I did a windshield glass for my father 1974 Spitfire a year ago, I wish I had this info then.Thanks Moss Motors.

    In all the years that I have been fitting screens to my customers cars I have never found the BGT to be more difficult than any other vehicle using the rubber to secure the glass I have always fitted the rubber to the glass, inserted the cord in the groove and starting at the bottom pull sideways finishing at the top centre. Having watched this video I reckon he is making the process appear to be some sort of "black art" in order to justify the high prices he probably charges.

      Yes, I was waiting for the cord trick! Getting the chrome trim in is probably the most frustrating ?! I’ve got to refit my screen now the painting is done. Rubber seems OK but I’ll clean it up and decide if it’s going back or not. Would silicon spray make it more pliable?

    On my 1970 nova all the channels are new bare metal. Should I leave it bare before painting the whole car for you to prime or you want the car painted 1st then you sand and prime/install?

    Very well instructed . Very brave with the dressing of the glass and teasing the glass home with the mallet ! And fitting the trims is actually the most difficult and frustrating part. Those trims are very fragile and bend just by looking at them ! Well done . The roadster is a completely different installation method.

    Wow I am not a professional but have restored a few of these and this seems rather OTT to me- not to mention why on earth are there cans stood on that nice paint, roof and bonnet? All I will say is, these came from the factory with no sealer. If the paint is sound and the rubber still flexible or new, the locking strip forces it tight to the body and glass. I’ve not had one leak so far and I test them with a pressure washer.
    The trims are a right pain and I confess take me a couple of hours usually. The screen and rubber go in easily enough, either as he did here or rubber on to glass and string it in, about 20 mins either way.

      I totally agree. 3.5 Hours my Ass. I got the impression that that Dude would be an Asshole to work with/for.

      You don’t need really anything except for glass cleaner and the fiber stick

    how do I get the chrome trim in on my triumph stag on the screen is it same method

      Hi . The Stag is not the same and if you think the M.G. was difficult the Stag is unbelievable. I think you string the Stag glass in but the chrome trim needs a special tool to install . The inner edge tucks under the seal but the outer edge sits on top the seal and then you have to tuck the lower lip of the rubber in behind the chrome finisher "u" section . This is why you rarely see Stage or late Spitfires with the chrome finisher fitted. I reckon if you could contact the guy that Installed that M.G.B. screen he could probably help or advise.

    Why didn't you put the seal on the windshield first, insert a plastic-coated cable or rope in the frame flange groove of the gasket, and then pull the rope from the inside to get the inner gasket flange inside the car? Is the MG windscreen fit so different from other cars that you have to install the gasket into the frame first?

      Edward Olsoe, I agree, just installed my 54 f100 and took me 15-20 minutes to install.

      I think he does not know how to put it in, especially all those chemicals and tools all over the paint.

      This is the correct fitment method for this screen . I agree he was a bit over the top with the solvents. Thankfully not too many screens are fitted in this way and it could be peculiar to European models .

      This is a different rubber it goes on the body first and then you knife it in the f100s you can rope in there are a few different kinds of rubber

      This has a locking strip gasket, which typically needs the gasket in first and then the glass goes in. It usually is not roped in. An f100 does not use a locking strip and is roped in. Slightly different installation method. The urethan back filling is extra security for water tightness, however it makes the next install a royal PITA….

    Wouldn’t let him loose on my car. Placing tools on the roof. No car protection.

      My thoughts exactly. Very unprofessional to lay spray cans and tools directly on the car with no protection. This guy seemed really full of himself and I wasn't really impressed with his process. Like Edward Osloe states above, putting the gasket on the windshield and then using the rope method would have been less risky and taken less time, in my opinion.

      @@bradmorgan911 this is a claytonrite rubber, stringing it in won't work. His method of getting the glass into the rubber was correct however I wouldn't use a metal hook tool. All he had to do was push the rubber out from inside the car. Completely agree with not placing tools etc on the car without protection, also I wonder how much damage was caused by the lower chrome bouncing off the wing!!

      @@Jactdavis Thanks for the information. Good to know since I am in the middle of restoring a 73 MGB GT and I will be installing a new windshield at some point. I've watched a few other install videos on this since I've seen this one and am wondering if you use windshield adhesive to install the MGB windshield. From what I have seen most folks install the glazing rubber and then the locking rubber bead but just use lubricant and no adhesive. For other makes of cars I have always used windshield adhesive and wonder if that would be of any help in an MGB install?

      @@bradmorgan911 I think the adhesive is used in the US as a safety measure. Here in the UK we just seal them with windscreen sealer not adhesive. I work on a quite a few classic cars, check out www.ultimatewindscreens.co.uk

    Well, that convinces me that I don't want to try this job. I just cringed as he was pounding on the glass with that soft mallet. Problem is, I"m having a real hard time finding someone to do the job.
