The fastest way to travel from point A to point B through the rough terrain in Death Strading is deploying a zipline network. In the video there is a possible route between the two big waterfronts situated around the Central Region.

This is all Death Stranding became for me eventually. Was designing a global rail network for postal travel. It feels like with that technology it would be what the world focused on. A robust transit network for porters with full redundancy and maintenance.

Interesting aspect, makes sense. I never regarded DS that pragmatic way. Because of my life situation at the time when I played it to depth, it was rather like some sort of meditation and peace for me, diving inside and recover mentally while traversing from point A to B. I was shattered to pieces and detached when I started the game back in 2020 and by the time I finished, I ended up ready to continue and re-connect. So, all the progression in the game is a symbol of that for me.

I designed a web of zipped lines across the snow mountains, and it took me 3 months to put them to level 3, all of them. I think I could do it better, but when I remember the amount of time and resources I spent, I get discouraged.

Level 3 all of them? Wow. That is a lot of commitment indeed. But if you take it as assembling some sort of abstract puzzle, it is just some well-spent, relaxed time :)

I'm glad that you like it. DS is one of the best games of the past decade I think.
It is hard to tell as it happened around the end of my recent Steam full achievments session that took around 140 hours but I did not rush at all when it comes to Death Stranding, and this zipline was already built around my storyline playthrough. 80 hours maybe? If you focus on creating the zipline network only, I guess it is possible under 60 hours. As far as I can recall, building all the roads in DS-DC that has an extra branch up to the mountains took more :)
This game is amazing, I made a review about it a couple of weeks ago of how much impact it had on me. If interested, I also made a video of a complete DS-DC roadtrip and a little floatee skying some time ago:

Agreed, it is quite time consuming. After my first playthrough of the story line where I reached to a functional zipline network point as you described, the other playthroughs were all about discovering the map and unlocking Steam achievments. I loved the story of Death Stranding but finding all those secrets and triny details about this gameworld, it was even more fun. I love this game.

@@user-lk9yg4eo6l True but structures take a long time to stop working. Strategically important early game structures usually need just three upgrades by the end of the game. An upgrade means completely fixing / 3D printing the structure, brand new. If you use materials sparingly with keeping that upgrading tactics in mind, you will always have working structures. Only the road network restoring was a pain to complete as it needs an ample of resources. But for some key missions they are needed to make quick deliveries, as much as a cleverly planned zipline network.
So many long-term tactical layers of a single game :)

I recorded this video after the complete Steam achievments playthrough that took about 140 hours (not a speedrun, I admit) but I think this actual zipline was made around 80 hours. If you focus on the zipline network only, I think it is possible to build it under 60 hours.
