Small cracks give the illusion of the desert which is what you wanted. It's the small details, like that, that really makes things come together. Looks great and I'm sure Despacito would love it. You can see the love you put into it.
It does look good, however I would wonder how difficult it will be when the dragon defecates and all of it finds its way into the cracks. Trying to clean that up without liquid sounds like a job and a half :/
Me: Sitting and watching Despacito, cozy in my PJs Despacito: *WoW Theme* Me: Sitting and watching Despacito, but druid leathers and a staff with an owl on my head
Just a tip on your desert plants. They need so little water when just planted. Let them sit for two weeks with no water. And even then give them very small amounts of water no sooner than a week inbetween waterings. Those plants are able to just live on light misting and no watering at all. They drink the night dew from the air and rarely ever get rain. That's why their leaves are full of reserve water. They cannot withstand root rot because they are not used to moist soil so they very often die due to overwatering. I'd say test how long they can go without any watering at all, just mist them whenever you feel like it. You'll be suprised how hardy they are 😉😉 it's easier to kill a plant by overwatering than underwatering because you can always add water but rarely take it away.
Also, along side this. You can trim the roots of your plants too to keep them growing in those cork bark pots. Especially the one succulent with a big root ball. You don't have to be too drastic but it can help with the long term life of the plant.
hi Petko! just a piece of advice (from a certified reptile Vet). bearded dragons should not eat anything for about a week after waking up :) you should just give him the water, because he was dehydrated (his skin was showing it), but his organs were asleep for the while and they need time to "wake up" also. so that's why you should't feed him that fast. his organs just won't work properly right after and there is a chance that the reptile would get clogged up and have problems with poop because the food wouldn't be digested in 100% or even not digested at all. anyhow the enclosure is awesome and it looks like Despacito is loving it! greetings from Poland ❣️
@@FLUFFYNINJAOFFICIAL so u think in the nature they have everything they want and they are fully safe and live long and happy? advices like that are based on research and studies, confirmed with medical tests. it is better for them not to eat after sleeping in captivity. do not compare living free to living in captivity. as a beardie owner I fully respect that advice as it came from a qualified veterinarian :)
I’d just like to thank you for your content, I’ve been having a really difficult time with my anxiety, and mental health in general, lately and just sitting back and watching you and your spiders has been extremely calming and beneficial for me. Much love and appreciation💕
@The Dark Den the smooth surface you had before doing all of this was really ideal in regards to keeping bacteria down from feces etc. With this clay it is going to absorb it all and you will have to CONSTANTLY/DAILY remove sections where there are feces. With a smooth surface like you had, or even tile which is preferred you can spray it with the proper chemicals that break down the feces for easy cleaning, such as "Healthy Habitat" spray. Also RESEARCH PLANTS there are not many you can keep in the enclosure with these guys. The last concern with this setup is the risk of IMPACTON due to loose substrate. This can kill the dragon painfully and quickly. You don't want anything loose at all in there.
Way cool setup, very nice! If Despacito hasn't peed and pooped by now please consider giving him a warm bath. Usually the first thing a reptile needs after they wake up from brumation is potty time. Same as you and me getting up first thing in the morning, but a whole lot more intense. I do not mean this advice as a way to say you aren't already doing a great job taking care of Despacito. He, like all your animals, is clearly being given ample love and attention as well as top-notch care. Great job, keep up the good work with your excellent videos! Best wishes from Seattle, Washington State, USA.
My beardies are coming out of their brumation as of yesterday. We did a "spring cleaning" on their tanks when I saw they were awake. One of them is shedding, too. I am curious though and maybe you can make a video about it, but what all do you feed Despacito other than varying between roaches and veggies? I've never seen anyone feed them tomatoes. I feed mine kale, collard greens, blueberries, and strawberries along with dubia roaches or superworms (depends on which one we can get easily at the time). Horned worms we give them during Halloween through Christmas as "treats." In the Spring, we harvest dandelions (just the heads) and wash them before giving them to the dragons. They love it, too. Not too many though, usually once or twice a day we give them one or 2 dandelion heads. I love the idea of using excavator clay! Right now, we use rubber mats - same kind people use to line utensil drawers - because it's an easy wipe down to spot clean or just replace them when needed. The exotic vet we take them to once a year (before brumation to make sure they're good) suggested it since repti-carpet highly discouraged. Also, just out of curiosity, why do you not have a water dish in Despacito's enclosure? Our vet drew us a simplistic set up design... one side warm for basking, opposite side kept cool/room temp, and in the middle a large water dish, big enough so they can drink and even soak in. I love seeing different types of bearded dragon enclosures 🥰
I just wanted to say that sleepy Despacito is super adorable. I think you did a great job on the enclosure and I have really been enjoying watching you as you continue to build the new Dark Den space. I wish I could take a tour in person and feed a roach to little Despacito!
Emily of the Snake Discovery channel did a video with a bearded dragon breeder once who recommended mixing chopped cilantro and/or bee pollen in with a beardie's greens/veggies if you have a hard time getting them to eat them. (He said they like the smell of cilantro and bee pollen, so it can encourage them to eat their veggies.) Maybe worth a shot to encourage Despa to eat his salads?
Hey petko! I really like your channel and your lobby work for our hobby :D i'am an reptile enthusiast for more than 20 years now and if there is one thing I have learned than it's the value of the right light. I think your lightning for despacito needs an upgrade. The uv tube light you have installed puts just a little amount of the uv a/b rays out that despacito need to produce vit d. Maybe you could replace the heat lamp with a hid lamp. These lamps make the closest imitation of the sunlight you can find on market and reptiles love it. Especially bearded dragons and other dessert reptiles. They get healthier and more active with a high amount of (the right)light. Anyway. I leave a like as always ;)
