  • Six different angles of the 2015 Tianjin explosion, synced together.
    The 2015 Tianjin explosions were a series of explosions that killed over 170 people and injured hundreds of others at a container storage station at the Port of Tianjin on Wednesday, 12 August 2015. The first two explosions occurred within 30 seconds of each other at the facility, which is located in the Binhai New Area of Tianjin, China. The second explosion was far larger and involved the detonation of about 800 tonnes of ammonium nitrate. Fires caused by the initial explosions continued to burn uncontrolled throughout the weekend, repeatedly causing secondary explosions, with eight additional explosions occurring on Saturday, 15 August.
    The cause of the explosions was not immediately known, but an investigation concluded in February 2016 that an overheated container of dry nitrocellulose was the cause of the initial explosion.
    Poor coverage of the event and the emergency response to it received criticism.The Chinese government also censored the internet and social media using the words "Tianjin" and "explosion", and announced it had taken down multiple websites for publishing "false" information.
    As of 12 September 2015, the casualty report was 173 deaths, 8 missing, and 797 non-fatal injuries.

      ***** Around 3,000 people died in 9/11, with a proportional number of injuries, whereas the death toll in China so far amounts to only 44. For the moment, this incident is small fries compared to September 11th.

    • @ZuperCreeper
      @ZuperCreeper 9 лет назад +12

      Flamefang 44 is the amount of bodies they were able to find. I read somewhere that they are expecting around 7000 dead

    • @MrKohlenstoff
      @MrKohlenstoff 9 лет назад +6

      from the reddit live thread:
      "120 firefighters and armed police entered the site to help, but only 4
      came out. Added with the others, there should ought to be approximately
      200 dead. [...] I have a friend on WeChat (Chinese IM service), her friend was a soldier
      involved in the rescue, who told her that they had already lifted, two
      or three hundred bodies from the site. Internet users also said not to
      trust the news from the mainland."
      There isn't much use in comparing these kinds of catastrophies though, especially considering 9/11 wasn't only so severe because of the casualties, but also because of the political aftermath.

    • @MedorraBlue
      @MedorraBlue 9 лет назад +3

      Agreed. Also, I hate to say this, but you can tell they died by looking at the wall in front of them. It's some form of stone - like brick or concrete - and it's not only broken apart but thrown into the air. This person suffered a gory but painless death - if they weren't dismembered, organ damage would've set in immediately, and they would've been knocked unconscious even if they were alive. But based on the wall being obliterated, I'd say they were killed instantly before the second, larger explosion. Either way, some of the satellite footage shows the entire area being flattened. The timing of the light and shockwave shows this person was in that radius.
      I hate talking about it but at least we can say they felt no pain. If the shockwave didn't kill them right there, they were unconscious while they died. The shockwave was so powerful that people miles away were knocked off their feet.

The local government will be under punishment. Hence it is very often for the local government to coverup the real figure of death toll

    I think what saddens me even more than the loss of life is how we as a civilization could allow such a preventable tragedy to occur in a populated area. And even more than that. This was estimated to be equal to 20 tons of TNT. The average nuclear weapon has a yield of 50 million tons of TNT equivalent. There are no words to adequately describe such weapons of mass destruction. We as a civilization must do more to safeguard the lives of today.. and the lives of tomorrow. Life is precious.
    From one individual to another, you have my greatest condolences from the United States.

The first larger explosion happened within a few hundred yards at most, sent massive amounts of debris flying right towards them, and the following explosions were ten times larger than that. R.I.P. hell of a way to go. Hopefully something is learned about this from that footage. Fucking tragic.
